It is our pleasure to present a set of bulls and females that offer “no 

limits” genetics—seedstock that inherently possesses the potential to 

move your program forward regardless of your current genetic base. 

The bulls are stout, rugged herd sire prospects ready to go to 

work. As the beef industry becomes more fact-based, data is crucial 

in determining value. Some important facts about the bulls selling 

include: 66% have a Birth Weight EPD of +2.0 or less, qualifying 

them to be calving-ease prospects; 60% have $B values of $50 - $60; 

and the average bull in this sale ranks in the top 3% of all nonparent 

bulls in the Angus breed for $B, top 5% for %IMF and $G, 

top 15% for CED and UREA, and top 20% for YW, $W, and $F. You 

can select herd sire prospects from the top 10% of the breed’s $B 

values to produce calves with higher USDA Quality Grade premiums, lower Yield Grade discounts, and better feedlot 

performance. Research indicates the $B value index is one of the best selection tools available to select seedstock 

without the fear of single trait selection and sacrificing cow function.

requires us to seek the best of the best females in the breed to enter our donor program for approximately one year 

and sell the following year. This process enables us to rapidly improve the genetic potential of the progeny we offer

Breeding Soundness Exams 

BJ Angus Genetics implements cutting-edge herd health technology in 

preventing disease and offering customers disease-free cattle. Their closed 

herd is tested for persistently infected BVD (Bovine Virus Diarrhea Virus) 

and brucellosis. Their vaccination program is complete and aggressive. 

All calves are vaccinated twice with modified live virus vaccine, twice for 

the clostridial diseases (i.e. Blackleg), twice for all strains of leptospirosis, 

and once with pasturella vaccine. All adult cattle are vaccinated annually 

using the same vaccines and are de-wormed twice annually. All sale cattle 

have tested negative for brucellosis and BVD persistent infections. Bulls 

have been fertility tested as satisfactory potential breeders, vaccinated with 

BoviShield Gold FP5 and Vibrio-Lepto, and poured for external parasites.

BJ Angus Genetics Breeding Guarantee 

We guarantee that all breeding cattle sold by BJ Angus Genetics are fertile to the best of our knowledge. If a bull 

is injured at any time during the first breeding season following the sale so as to make them functionally infertile, we 

will provide you with a satisfactory replacement (if available), or issue you a credit equal to the bull’s purchase price 

minus the salvage value received for that bull. If a female is determined to be a non-breeder, then we would ask you 

to sell her and would offer you the difference of her purchase price minus the salvage value as a credit in any future 

BJ Angus Genetics sale. All credit is good until it is used and does not expire. We would simply ask you to contact 

us before you cull your infertile animal. 

This, however, is not a life insurance policy. We will not give credit for a dead or incapacitated animal resulting 

from negligence. We would suggest that normal care still needs to be exercised toward these animals and that 

particularly the yearling bulls not be allowed to get too thin. 

This guarantee is in addition to the Terms and Conditions of the American Angus Association, which also apply. 

Semen Interest 

You will notice that we are retaining revenue-sharing and semen interest on all bulls. While the bull is totally in 

your control regarding how you want to handle him and you get 100% of the salvage value of the animal, we have 

the right to a share of semen sales revenue from the bull if, at some time in the future, semen sales become a 

possibility. If you sell the bull to another breeder, BJ Angus Genetics retains the semen interest. 

Realistically, it is unlikely that large amounts of semen will be sold from many bulls. However, a few bulls are 

discovered later in life after they have proven themselves in the breeding pasture and carcass data is collected on 

their calves. 

If you choose to collect semen from your purchased bull as an insurance policy for your own use, that semen 

is 100% yours. BJ Angus Genetics may wish to collect semen from the bull, either for within herd use or to build 

a jointly-owned semen bank for sale purposes. If you are not interested in collecting semen on the bull, BJ Angus 

Genetics has the right to collect the bull for their own use and in that case, will pay all collection expenses. Semen 

collection would be arranged at the convenience of the owner of the possession of interest.

Yearling Bull Management – Caring For Your Bulls

When you get your performance-tested bull(s) home, observing these management practices 

will result in the best reproductive performance. 

FEEDING 

Remember, the bull is a yearling or long yearling and still has some growing to do. Feed the 

young bull well. Hay and grain plus a protein supplement will be adequate. You should feed 

five to ten pounds of grain and one to two pounds of protein supplement in addition to a 

full feed of good quality hay from now until the start of the breeding season. Continue to 

feed liberally so the bull will grow out well. 

BREEDING SEASON 

Plan to use the new bull in a restricted, 45- to 60-day breeding season the first time. Observe 

him closely to be sure he is serving and settling females. 

NUMBER OF COWS 

The yearling bull should be used on a minimal number of cows or heifers. The number 

should be governed by his age at the start of the breeding season. The following is a guide.

MANAGEMENT AND HOUSING 

The bull should be kept in a well-fenced lot prior to and following breeding season. A shed 

or other natural windbreak should be provided. Supply plenty of clean water and minerals 

free-choice. Treat routinely for lice and grub worms. Run bulls together with caution. Bulls 

of similar age which have bred cows together will usually work. Check for any unsoundness 

which might develop. Test annually for Brucellosis and Leptospirosis. Vaccinate for IBR, 

PI3, BVD and Lepto.
