PREPARATORY SCHOOL NEWS

Dear Parents
It is always a pleasure to receive positive comments from the public about the students in our school. Last
week Year 4 was in Sydney studying ‘Early Australia’ visiting many landmarks. Comments such as: ‘they
are the best kids we have had here’ (Rouse Hill Farm); ‘they are a delight to talk to’ (general public at
McDonalds); ‘they ask really good questions’ (guide from the Rocks Walking Tour)
Miss Holmes, Mr Pritchard and Mrs Pittman were glowing in their praise for the Year 4’s. Well done!
Last week Year 3 spent two days exploring friendship and relationships. They also planted sunflower
seeds in our garden beds to signify the growth of friendships.
Our garden beds have had a major transformation. After the growing of vegetables by Kindergarten last
year and the interest that it aroused, the whole school is now getting their hands dirty growing winter
vegetables. Each class has an area to maintain and we look forward to some interesting and tasty recipes
being produced. The students have planted herbs, gold onion, rosemary (for Remembrance Day), pak
choi, cos lettuce, silverbeet, broccoli and cauliflower.
We thank Mr May for his organisation of this project.
Congratulations to our two touch footy teams who won the Hunter region carnival last week. Mr May and
Mrs King were delighted with the students’ performances. You can read more in Mrs King’s sports’ report.
Finally our Prep Forum and P&F are on this week. Prep Forum will be held in the Performance Theatre
from 6.30 pm followed by the P&F meeting at 7.30 pm (Previous minutes and the agenda for the P&F
meeting are on the School Website under the heading of Community). Topics to be discussed will be:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10.30am to
2.00pm. Clothes may be dropped off at the main
office outside these hours.
Clothing to be sold must be washed or drycleaned
and in good condition. Any clothing
that is left dirty, stained or torn will be

Touch Football Results
Twenty Year 5 and 6 students travelled to
Newcastle on Tuesday 4th August to play in
a trial Touch Football Gala Day for
Independent schools at Wallsend on
Wednesday. Both the boys and girls played 6
20 minute games each and both KWS teams
were undefeated all day and went on to each
win their grand final. Stand out players for
the girls in defence and attack were Isobel
McCalman, Josie Bloomfield and Nikki
D'Aquino. The boys actually had a 1-1 draw
for the grand final but on a count back had
scored more tries over the day. Their
teamwork and support was a feature of their
play. An enjoyable, exciting and fun time
was had by all students and Mr May and
myself. Mrs King
KWS FOOTBALL
SUPPORTERS
GALA DAY
SATURDAY 22 AUGUST
There will be non-stop football action at
Wolaroi on Saturday 22 August. There will be
a total of 15 KWS football teams plus the
Internal Competition in action. It starts at
9.30am with the Under 6 teams on Sally
Kennett Oval, with the last match being the
Firsts playing at 3.00pm on KWS North. All
parents and friends are welcome to come
along and support these teams and stay on to
cheer the other KWS teams.
A canteen will be operating in the Prep car
park. Hot & cold food and drinks will be
available –sausage sandwiches, tea,
coffee, water, etc.
We need some helpers for the
canteen - call Cathie 6361 4580
or Phillip 6365 1119 if you have a
spare hour on Saturday.

Football
U6 Tigers: The Molong Tigers played away at
Millthorpe on a crisp Saturday morning
without key forward, Jonty who was
recovering from rope burn. Once again, a
good team effort saw the Tigers score 6 goals
to one, which keeps them undefeated for the
season. Harry, Sally and Annie passed the
ball accurately which allowed Will R and
Phoebe to score the goals. The game was
played in good spirit which was appreciated
by the large crowd. Thank you Miss K for

U6 Panthers: On Saturday the U/6 panthers
played Molong at Molong. Lachlan did some
excellent big passes to help score goals,
while Mia made some great saves. At fulltime
it was 6-2 our way. Grace scored 3
goals. Will scored 2 and Campbell 1. Grace
McRae
U7 Jaguars: On Saturday we played the
Blayney Kings in Blayney. We all had a great
game. It was an exciting match with our
team scoring 5 goals and Blayney scoring 3.
Well done Ethan who was player of the week
and thankyou Mrs Pengilly for coaching us.
Liam Choi
U11 Schwarzers: It was a great game on
Saturday. Kinross Wolaroi vs SJS Gold.
They kicked off and we got the ball and the
first goal was scored by me. Then they
scored. With a good set up Drew scored the
end score was 2 all. Good game boys and
thanks Mr Gregory for being our coach.

U11 Kewells: The Kewells ran on to the field
not knowing which way the game would
turn. Half way through the first half Kinross
had a replay of the 2006 world cup when
Italy beat Australia with a penalty. This time
it was the Kewells that got the penalty. With
Gus doing some step overs he found a way
through their defence not to his liking he
was hacked from behind. Kinross converted
the goal and were up by 1 at half time. We
managed to hold on all the way stopping all
of the attacks. We all played our best game
of the season. Big mention to Nigel who
played the best game ever. Harry Rees
U12 Emertons: On a warm sunny day KWS
Emertons played Blayney with great crosses
by Peter and Tom. Amazing goals by
Jayden, Sam and Charles. The end score was
3-0 our way. Well done everyone, keep it

Netball
U9 High Flyers: On a cold but sunny
Saturday morning the KWS high flyers set
out to play the St. Mary’s Play Puppies. In
the first quarter there was some strong
defence from Amelia and Charlotte. In the
second quarter Ailish was on fire, she shot a
great goal. Third quarter our eyes were
glued on the ball. We worked hard and got
many good opportunities to shoot a goal.
Fourth quarter Jemima tried her hardest to
shoot a goal and was extremely close. Good
game girls. And a special thanks to Susan for
being a great stand in coach, but we did miss
you Mrs Whiteley. Monique Worsley
U10 All Stars: The U10 All Stars got into
position and were ready to play. Our
opponents were OPS Divas. We played really
well and every quarter we worked harder.
Our defence was great and our attacking was
superb. The end score was 4-2 our way.
Great job girls and thank you Mrs Essex for
making the All Stars shine so brightly.

U11 Diamonds: On Saturday the Under 11
Diamonds played a great game of netball.
We were playing the Cudal Chicks, We had
some great defence but we need to work on
our passes, we won 12-5. Thanks so much to
Izzy and Samantha for filling in and to Mrs
King for coaching us. Great game girls can't
wait till next week. Brooke Halloway
U12 Shooters: It was a fast and furious
encounter when the Shooters took the court
to play Calare. Each quarter was close with
energetic play and exciting intercepts but
they managed to beat us by 27 to 25. Bronie
and Monnie shot some amazing goals, and
Sarah and Shannon stuck to their players
like glue. Izzy and Bridget covered the court
with speed while Cecilia and Sophia gave it
everything. Thankyou Trish for your
encouragement throughout the game. By

Hockey
Minkey Hockey: We played the game and
scored 1 goal, the other team scored 3. The

team is passing the ball around much better.
Both Catriona and I received “Good Sports’
awards. Thanks Mrs Key for coaching us.

U9 Reds: On the weekend, the Under 9 Reds
hockey team played Canobolas. Dannie was
our goalie and her defence was great. We
lost the game 5-0. Better luck next time
girls. Charlotte May
U11 Whites: The ball was hit and the game
began! The ball went up their end, but we
knew we couldn’t keep it up there forever.
We played strongly but Molong were
stronger, scoring 2 goals in the first half.
After half time, we ran back onto the field
feeling confident, sadly our confidence
didn’t last with Molong scoring 3 more goals.
Great playing by all, thanks Mrs Emerson, we
hope to play better next week. Remember
girls to run to the space, and tackle in the
goal circle and also get down low. Lizzie

U13 Whites: This week we were determined
to win against Canobolas. After the first half
it was 1-0 our way. The second half we were
on fire scoring 4 goals. Well done to
everyone and I hope we do well next time.

weather plans with your child so they are
aware of alternative arrangements when sport
is called off.
