Abstract Mt. Abune Yoseph has high biodiversity and endemism which is representative of the Afro-alpine ecosystems. Our study employed socio-economic and ecological survey as a major methodological approach. For socio-economic data 120 randomly selected households from eight villages were interviewed and ecological data were collected from 110 circular sample plots of 5m radius marked along eight habitat assessment transects laid at 1km apart with 200m interval using a 1: 50,000 scale map and Global positioning system (GPS). The result of descriptive statistics showed that 80% households exploit economically important natural resources to support their livelihoods from Mt. Abune Yoseph and chi-square test indicated the presence of significant difference (P
