Everything a horse needs….
Exercise, exercise, exercise, water, air, light, hay and oats –
and that’s it!
1. Exercise is one of the most important things.
Whether out hacking, in the indoor arena or out on the field – at walk, trot, canter or more – hard
work pays off. Horses are always on the move. Wild horses constantly roam and graze to fulfil
their daily nutritional needs. They sometime take about twenty thousand paces in one day – in
contrast – stable kept horses take less than six hundred. Today it is up to us to make sure our
horses get enough exercise. Movement is one of a horses basic needs, it stimulates heart and
circulation, strengthens tendons, ligaments and muscles and improves the respiratory tract.
That’s why we say – keep moving.
2. Water is the elixir of life.
Not only the quantity, but also the quality of water is most important. Clean and fresh water is
essential. Water transports nutrients, regulates cell pressure and body temperature. The basic
daily requirement is thirty to forty litres. But the daily requirement of a sport horse can reach
up to eighty litres.
Water should always be freely available!
3. Fresh air for healthy lungs.
Horses’ lungs are the centre of energy output and need a lot of air. A horse in- and exhales about
30 litres of air, twelve times a minute, the amount obviously increasing during increased exercise.
Our horse’s lungs are very sensitive to their environment, therefore never underestimate
bronchial disorders.
4. No light – no life.
Light and colours have a very positive effect on humans. The sun gives us energy and warmth.
Sunlight has a relaxing effect both psychologically and physiologically.
The sun has another advantage: it helps the body to produce vitamin D. This vitamin is responsible
for storage of calcium in bones, therefore improving bone density.
Let your horses out as much as possible.
5. Horses need hay.
As much good quality hay as possible.
Fibre rich feed, like hay and grass, are absolutely essential for a horse’s digestion. Horses that
have enough hay to chew on are a lot more content as they don’t get bored.
Chewing has the positive effect that the horse produces more of the most important saliva
needed for digestion. The daily need for a Warmblood is between eight and ten kilograms of hay.
If the intake of hay isn’t enough to cover the energy requirement of the horse, then concentrates
should be added. Preferably oats – of course only of best quality.
To feed horses properly also means to supplement properly.

MASTERHORSE-MASH
Mash is an appetising, light and easily digested
feed that contains valuable nutrients which helps
maintain the intestinal flora. It is ideal for underweight
horses, for horses that are heavily worked
and after sickness and during the moulting season.
It is also very good for older horses with teeth problems.
Our ready to use mixture is easy to prepare
as no mixing and cooking is necessary.
Mash is a traditional element in the feeding of horses.
After being mixed with water it is very readily
eaten by horses.
Contains: wheat bran, corn flakes, barley flakes, dried apple,
linseed, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, sugar beet molasses,
brewers‘ yeast, cold pressed linseed oil.
Preparation: 1 kg Mash mixed with 2 L warm water. Leave
to soak for 30 minutes.
