Co-operative Limited and Mrs Jenny Trindall from the Walgett Shire
Council hosted this years International Women’s Day held at the
Walgett District Sporting Club and the Walgett Communtiy Centre
on the 8 March 2011.
The day started with breakfast at the Sporting Club where Mrs Fay
Green OAM opened with a Welcome to Country. Mrs Bronwyn
Cochrane and Mrs Robyn Pearson were guest speakers and members
of the audience were invited to speak of their experiences and what
success meant to them.
Mrs Ettie Morris was crowned Queen of the Day.
Students of the Walgett Community College performed and were
accompanied by Ms Tanya Coelho.

While some of the women had to go back to work following the breakfast,
others went to enjoy a morning of pampering and learning new arts and
crafts at the Community Centre.
Following lunch, they went back to the Sporting Club and played a game of
In total, over the course of the day there were fifty three women, twenty
eight Aboriginal and 25 Non Aboriginal, who took part in celebrating International
Women’s Day and they all had a great time.
Donations were received from the Walgett Pharmacy, WAMS and the Walgett
Newsagency. Thank you letters will be sent to these organisations for their
support in making the day such a success.
