Why Digital
The previous generation of hearing aids utilised
amplification systems based on analogue electronic
technology. These hearing aids simply took the sounds
and noises that they "heard" and amplified them. That
meant amplifying unwanted signals also. While it was
possible to apply some limiting factors to the output
sound levels of these hearing aids, the opportunity to use
Digital Signal Processing came as a huge breakthrough.

Digital Signal Processing allows us, the manufacturer, to
do just that:- "process" the signals that are received by
the hearing aid. This means that we can manipulate the
incoming sound, and transform it into what the user feels
most comfortable with. We can reduce unwanted noise,
and concentrate on providing the user with clearer
speech signals.
