ANIMAL NUTRITION CENTER
CAL POLY, SAN LUIS OBISPO
The new Animal Nutrition Center is a state-of-the-art
training and research facility located on the Cal Poly
campus, in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities
in California - San Luis Obispo. The new facility will not
only serve to teach students processing and research
principles, but it will also serve as a destination site for
feed industry short courses, focusing on both domestic
and international animal feed manufacturing.
For all stages of animal feed processing, from feed
formulation, to merchandising and manufacturing,
to packaging, marketing and research, this center
will provide the safest possible environment. Beyond
the ordinary classroom, students will experience a
technologically advanced “real world” education in
this modular feed plant, intended to blur the lines
between the feed industry and higher education.
Companies worldwide will use this facility to conduct
manufacturing research and product development
alongside Cal Poly students and faculty. Never before
will our Cal Poly grads be so prepared to serve the
feed management industry as leaders, innovators and
experienced problem solvers.
Financing for the $5.25 million Animal Nutrition
Center will be a collaboration of public and private
sectors. In combination with funding from the State
of California and private donations from suppliers of
feed manufacturing equipment, the Cal Poly Animal
Science Department has secured nearly $4 million
for this project. The financing that remains will come
through corporate and private donors.
Now is your chance to contribute to a one-of-a-kind
feed manufacturing facility and support a center
where academics and the animal nutrition industry
work hand-in-hand to create a mutually beneficial
educational experience.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND SUPPORT.
Kevin Kruse
PRESIDENT
WESTERN MILLING
“As a feed company owner and Cal Poly alumnus, I understand the value of innovation and application of
new technology in the animal nutrition industry. It is essential that universities preparing students for the
feed industry are outfitted with modern equipment, which is especially true at Cal Poly, where hands-on
instruction is fully implemented. In Cal Poly’s state-of-the-art Animal Nutrition Center, students will gain
the needed experience to enhance all aspects of animal feed manufacturing to provide the industry with
future leaders. I encourage alumni, friends and the feed industry to unite in support of this facility and invest
in the advancement of the entire animal nutrition industry.”
