Continuing Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
Development<br />
In <strong>2009</strong> participation in the CPD Program was made<br />
m<strong>and</strong>atory for all Fellows. The program had steady<br />
growth with an overall participation rate <strong>of</strong> more than<br />
70%. The breakdown <strong>of</strong> participation by region is<br />
summarised below.<br />
The <strong>College</strong> continues to achieve very high levels<br />
<strong>of</strong> compliance with the m<strong>and</strong>atory Continuing<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Development program.<br />
The <strong>College</strong> was also involved in more than 60 events,<br />
meetings, workshops <strong>and</strong> courses in <strong>2009</strong> with a<br />
record number <strong>of</strong> attendees at the <strong>Annual</strong> Scientific<br />
Meeting in Cairns.<br />

Non Fellow participation increased also in <strong>2009</strong> with the main participants being IMGS who need CPD participation<br />
for employment within Australasia. The breakdown <strong>of</strong> Non Fellow participation in the CPD Program is detailed below:<br />

The end <strong>of</strong> the first triennium with the new CPD Program will be in December 2010 <strong>and</strong> each participant will be required<br />
to do an Evaluation <strong>of</strong> their CPD Portfolio. In January 2011 there will be a r<strong>and</strong>om audit <strong>of</strong> 5% <strong>of</strong> Fellows participating<br />
in the CPD Program which will be conducted in partnership with the CPD Committee <strong>and</strong> the CPD Unit.<br />
Special Interest Group events<br />
The Rural Specialist Interest Group Conference was held in the Hunter Valley in NSW from the July 23-25 with the theme<br />
“Gumnuts <strong>and</strong> Joeys – Delivering Anaesthesia in the Bush”. There were excellent delegate numbers for the conference<br />
with one <strong>of</strong> the highlights being Neonatal Resus workshops which were well attended <strong>and</strong> very popular with delegates.<br />
The 10th Biennial Cardiothoracic, Vascular <strong>and</strong> Perfusion SIG Conference was held at the Sheraton Noosa from the<br />
October 4-7, with strong attendance. In conjunction with the meeting there were optional workshops run an echoworkshop<br />
<strong>and</strong> a heart lung simulation workshop.<br />
The Combined Education, Simulation, Welfare <strong>and</strong> Management SIG Meeting – Essential Skills for the Future<br />
–was held from October 9-11 in Byron Bay <strong>and</strong> was acclaimed as an extremely successful event.<br />
