Wine tasting gets sweeter when paired with indie films,
Hollywood celebrities and gourmet food
The 14th annual Sonoma International Film Festival runs from
April 6-10. Centered around Sonoma’s historic plaza, this destination
film festival becomes wine country’s most exciting production each
spring. Film lovers, foodies and wine enthusiasts alike come to enjoy
the best in independent film, gourmet food and Sonoma’s crown
jewel: world-class wine.
Visitors will be captivated by vibrant green hillsides, a charming
town square and an abundance of wine tasting options to round out a
cinematic event that ranks among the top film festivals around the
world. Festival Director Kevin McNeely notes that Sonoma’s smalltown
atmosphere lends itself to the intimate experience of the film
festival, “All of our film venues are in walking distance of the ‘Backlot’
– a gourmet food and wine tent that serves as the festival hub and
highlights the best of the valley’s vintages and gourmet foods.”
The first U.S. city to receive the “Cittaslow” designation, the town
of Sonoma captures the essence of gourmet living and provides a luxurious
backdrop for the festival’s unparalleled programming.
Film selections, tributes and Lifetime Achievement Awards for the
2011 Festival will be announced this month. Previous honorees
include Bruce Willis, Lauren Hutton, Michael Keaton, Blythe Danner
and Danny Glover. Last year’s Festival featured 74 films from 12 countries
and more than 18,000 attendees.
The Sonoma International Film Festival is one of the top destination
film festivals in the world and is uniquely positioned to be a lively
celebration of film, food and wine. An annual gathering for film
industry insiders, cinema enthusiasts, filmmakers and critics, SIFF is
considered among the most scenic and epicurean places to experience
the art of film. Founded in 1997, The Sonoma International Film
Festival is a five-day international event that takes pride in showcasing
emerging talent and featuring unreleased films.
