Walter B. Grove II
CSM Alumni, 1994
Associate of Arts Degree
REAL STUDENTS. REAL STORIES.
Walter B. Grove II (who would come to be known
to his friends as Walter TOO) was born on January
8, 1973, and grew up in Charles County, Maryland.
He died on March 17, 1999, at the age of 26, shortly
after his graduation from the College of Southern
Maryland (CSM), (formerly Charles County
Community College) with an associate’s degree.
After leaving the college, Walter reflected, “I was
happy at the college, actually happy there; the college
was just the right size, close to home, and there were
lots of people I knew there.” Walter felt that some of
his teachers here were the best he had in his years as
a student. For these reasons, his family chose CSM
as the most appropriate site for a scholarship fund in
Walter’s name.
After graduating from CSM, Walter transferred to a
four-year institution to complete his studies in studio
art. In 1997-98, he taught drawing locally to both
children and adults. At the time of his death, he had
been pursuing a career in the field of art—specifically
painting and drawing.
