The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. It is
working to secure no further loss of ancient woodland, and to restore and
improve the biodiversity of woods by acquiring native and ancient woodland and
managing it appropriately, by planting new native woodland and through a wider
advocacy role. Established in 1972, the Woodland Trust now has over 1,000 sites in
its care covering approximately 17,700 hectares (43,700 acres). Around 360 of
these sites contain or comprise ancient woodland, some 6,150 hectares (15,200
acres) in total.
