on the shore of Ullswater

The Lake District

wins prestigious award

Recently voted the most romantic

destination in the UK, there could not

be a more perfect place to tie the knot

than the English Lake District. To get married

against such a beautiful backdrop is a dream

for any couple and in the midst of this natural

beauty, the Inn on the Lake offers you the

chance to celebrate your big day in exactly

the way you dreamt of.

For a no-obligation tour round or to find out

more, contact the hotel on 017684 82444.

First class service and attention to detail

Standing in 15 acres of grounds with

lawns sweeping to the shore of Lake

Ullswater, the Inn on the Lake has one

of the most spectacular settings in the

Lake District and is the perfect place for

your wedding.

The general manager and his team not only

take great pride in looking after weddings

at the Inn on the Lake, but they thoroughly

enjoy the day themselves, when their

efforts are richly rewarded with happy

smiles from the wedding couple and their

families and friends. Our portfolio of more

than 1000 complimentary letters, cards and

photographs received from past wedding

couples and their guests are testament

to this.

From the beginning to the end, from

the smallest detail to the bigger picture,

every single requirement is handled with

professionalism and ease. We are flexible

and want to work together with you to

fulfil your dreams.

Fabulous Accommodation

for you and your guests

The Inn on the Lake has 47 beautifully

appointed bedrooms mainly overlooking

the lake or the surrounding fells. The six

4-poster bedrooms are particularly popular

with wedding couples as they are not only

considered very romantic, but they are

also very large rooms with stunning views.

The Lake View Rooms and the Fell View

Rooms are all very comfortable and of

a high standard.

Inn on the Lake

At your service

Doing your homework and getting the details just right on your

big day are paramount for a successful event, and will ensure the

day’s memories will be cherished for decades to come. After all, you

are throwing the biggest and best party you are ever likely to have.

You don’t have to conform to a set of rules, imagination is the only

required ingredient.

Let us work together, helping you to organise your day, so the actual

planning becomes as fun and enjoyable as the day itself. Don’t get

stressed out, we have lots of experience and if you have any ideas or

special wishes, which may seem impossible to fulfil, please talk to us;

we are here to assist you every step of the way, but most importantly

when the BIG day arrives you can leave those “last minute nerves”

at home, as you are in good hands.

Chat to your guests, sit back, relax and enjoy every minute of the

new experience of being married.

Whatever the season

The Lake District is a unique place every day of the year and provides

the most romantic backdrop for your wedding photographs and

a very popular destination for your guests to visit. Although Spring

and Summer weddings are still the most popular, the Inn on the Lake

plays host to an increasing number of Autumn and Winter weddings.

In October when the leaves are turning golden yellow and the roads are

less busy, until later on when the air is cold and crisp and the top of the

mountains are covered in snow and the lakes look even deeper, the Inn

on the Lake is a warm and welcoming place to greet your guests with

a glass of hot mulled wine or winter punch in front of the roaring fire.

A Christmas wedding at the Inn on the Lake can simply be described as

a fairytale come true. From November until early January when the hotel

puts on its magical Christmas dreamcoat inside as well as outside and the

hotel is oozing a warm and welcoming Christmas atmosphere, there can

be no better time to celebrate a wedding with family and friends.

Inn on the Lake

Making use of the launch on Ullswater

or some guests the time between the wedding breakfast and the

evening function can seem long. A lake cruise with fresh air and

perhaps a glass of chilled Chardonnay in Summer, or a mug of mulled

wine in the Winter, both served with canapés, is a welcome way of

spending a couple of hours.

The Ullswater Steamers, just 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel, operate a

time schedule throughout the year, and are a popular choice for wedding

couples wishing to give their guests a unique experience, and at the same

time prepare them for the evening ahead.

Inn on the Lake

Eat, drink and be married

The Inn on the Lake is renowned both

locally and nationally for the excellent

food our award-winning chef and his team

serve our guests. Creative, exciting menus

using fresh, local ingredients ensure your

event will be remembered not only for

the occasion, but for the cuisine itself.

As well as an extensive a la carte menu

from which you can tailor your own menu,

our head chef can also offer you a 4 or a

5 course set menu, seasonal menus, the

famous Lake Gala buffet, the Gourmet

menu and a selection of finger and fork

buffets and even a steamer menu (to be

served on the launch in the afternoon).

On fine days your guests can enjoy the

welcome drinks reception on the large

lakeside terrace and the barbecue menu,

including a fabulous Hog Roast, can also

be prepared on this terrace in full view

of your guests.

Welcome drinks and wines

Our sommelier has made the wine choice

easy and you can choose from a range of

drinks packages and be assured that each

one of them will meet your budget and

expectations. If you wish to compose your

own welcome drink and wines for the day,

the list is extensive ranging from the very

popular, inexpensive bottles of wine to

the more unusual and impressive range.

Anything you don’t see on our list we will

do our best to obtain for you.

Weather permitting, the drinks reception

can be held on the hotel’s lawns.

Offer a warm welcome and a fond

farewell to your wedding guests

Favours don’t have to be limited to the big day and since your guests

have travelled to the Lake District, a basket in their bedroom filled

with local specialities such as Kendal Mint cake, Penrith Fudge, Willow

Spring Water and a Lake District book, would be a fantastic way of

welcoming them. To create even more excitement, send personalised

gifts each night to their bedroom like two crystal glasses and a chilled

bottle of wine.

An informal private dinner the evening before the wedding is a popular

way of mixing your families and friends together. Play the host with a fun

cocktail and boozy cupcake hour followed by a light dinner in either the

restaurant or one of our private dining rooms.

Post-wedding-day brunches are also becoming popular, since they are the

last chance for everyone to spend time together in a relaxed, laid-back

setting and chat about the fantastic time they have had.

Wedding Etiquette

Toasts and Speeches

These would normally take place at the end of the meal

and would accompany the distribution of the wedding cake.

The following is the usual order of proceedings: Toast to the

Bride and Groom – this is normally proposed by the Bride’s

Father or a close relative or friend of the family. Toast to the

Bridesmaids – this is always proposed by the Bridegroom

following the response to the first toast. The Best Man would

then respond to the Bridegroom’s speech on behalf of the

Bridesmaids. He also reads the telegrams to the guests.

The Bride

The Bride selects the type of service, and decides on her

dress and the Bridesmaids.

The Bridegroom

The Bridegroom selects the Best Man and any Ushers.

He buys the ring and pays the church fees. He can also

buy presents for the Bridesmaids, Best Man and Ushers as

a gesture of gratitude for their help. He buys flowers for

his Bride, Bride’s Mother, his own mother, Bridesmaids and

buttonholes for himself and the Best Man. He arranges

and pays for transport for himself and the Best Man and

for the Bride and himself after the wedding.

The Best Man

The Best Man is the Bridegroom’s right hand man. He keeps

the ring and ensures the Bridegroom gets to the church on

time. He pays the church fees on behalf of the Bridegroom.

He checks and ensures transport for all guests to the

reception and any travel arrangements for the honeymoon

are in order. At the reception it is the Best Man’s honour

to read the congratulatory telegrams.

The Chief Bridesmaid

She assists the Bride to dress, holds the bouquet during

the ceremony and organises the other Bridesmaids.

The Bride’s Father

The father gives the Bride away and receives guests at

the reception.

The Bride’s Mother

The Bride’s Mother is traditionally in charge of the

proceedings. She chooses the venue for the reception

and together with the Bridegroom’s mother plans a guest

list. She handles any catering arrangements and ensures

the wedding cake is ready.

Wedding Etiquette

We are asked many questions regarding the traditional

formalities of a Wedding Reception and hope that the

following will be of some use when planning your day.

Please do not hesitate to contact one of the Wedding

Co-ordinators who will be pleased to answer any other

questions you may have.

The Receiving Line

Bride’s Mother, Bride’s Father, Groom’s Mother,

Groom’s Father, The Bride, The Groom and Best Man.

Bridesmaids and Guest of Honour can be added to the line

after the Best Man if you wish. The guests form a queue

and introduce themselves moving down the line shaking

hands with each person, then enter the room to be shown

their table.

Seating at the Top Table

From left to right, facing your guests. (Guest of honour may

be added to the Top Table next to the Bridesmaids).
