Encourage the neighbor or relative 

with young children to sign up for 

beginner sailing school lessons, 

and mentor them along the way. If 

you have the experience, volunteer

or crew with them. Keep your 

local club strong by soliciting and 

encouraging new yacht club 

members. Volunteer at your local 

sailing school or yacht club – the 

opportunities are many and varied.

ILYA seeks to activate ‘Delegates Forum’ 

In an attempt to effect better communication between the 

ILYA and its member clubs, and to provide a means of 

information-gathering and problem-solving among those clubs, 

Commodore Prange is seeking to reinvigorate the role of its 

member club delegates. 

The ILYA is an association comprised of its member 

clubs, each of which has a voting Delegate. ILYA by-laws 

provide that the Commodore or Secretary of each member club 

is by office the authorized Delegate to the ILYA, unless the 

club appoints someone else. 

In the recent past, the delegates have been asked merely to 

vote for the slate of directors at the annual meeting of the 

Association in February. The ILYA sees the expanded delegate 

function as a conduit for information between the association 

and the club, and a source of information for other clubs. 

The ILYA has asked the existing Delegates of Record and 

clubs to review their delegate assignments, naming delegates 

who would be willing to take on the following responsibilities: 

1. Be an ILYA member and encourage others in the club to 

do the same. 

2. Participate in the ILYA Board member nomination and 

election process. 

3. Advocate on behalf of the ILYA at the local club. Read 

ILYA Board minutes, ScowLines, Scow Slants, and other 

ILYA communications. Be knowledgeable about ILYA 

activities that affect the club. Proactively keep the club 

membership informed. 

4. Facilitate an annual discussion at the club regarding 

bidding for ILYA regattas. 

5. Keep contact information about the club up to date on the 

ILYA website. 

6. Actively participate in the “Delegates Forum” to receive 

communications as follows: 

a. Respond to periodic requests from fleet committees or 

the Regatta Coordinating committee to consider 

hosting specific regattas. 

b. Receive common interest questions (originated by the 

ILYA board or other member clubs). Assure the 

appropriate person in the club receives the question 

and responds. 

c. Pose common interest questions to other ILYA clubs 

through this mechanism. 

d. Forward news about upcoming regattas to sailors 

within the club (who may not be on ILYA mailing 

lists). 

e. Communicate ILYA sponsored race committee or 

other seminars to appropriate persons within the club. 

At this writing, 31 of the 50 ILYA member clubs have 

confirmed their delegates for 2009. Members of the Executive 

Committee are contacting the other 19 clubs so that all will 

have active delegates before long.

Regatta discounts continue 

ILYA Promotion Committee is committed to extending 

adult and junior discounts again in 2009, and the NCSSA has 

offered to help fund juniors in ILYA events. 

Thanks to the Promotion Committee, the ILYA Class C 

Raffle Fund, and NCSSA, lots of junior and adult sailors 

received discounted or free regatta entries in 2008. The ILYA 

Promotion Committee funded fifty-percent discounts for 32 

juniors in classes E, C, MC, M-17, and M; it funded 12 totally 

free entry fees to adults in classes C, MC, and M-17 who had 

never before skippered in an ILYA regatta. 

The ILYA C Scow Raffle fund contributed to fifty percent 

rebates for juniors at the ILYA C Scow Championship, making 

that regatta fully free for juniors, and contributed 100% for 

juniors to sail free in the ILYA Invitational. 

All of the junior discounts and first time regatta adult 

discounts are funded again in 2009 for skippers who register 

before the early registration deadline. The Notices of Race 

and online registration forms reflect the junior discounts. First 

time adult participants should contact the ILYA office when 

they prepare to register for instructions on entry.

Regatta Registration On-Line 

On-line Regatta registration continues to attract nearly 80% of 

our participants. By registering on-line, skippers' yachts are immediately 

and automatically entered on the event on-line roster. 

Membership Renewal On-Line 

The on-line membership renewal process was revamped in 

early 2008, and while there were some glitches at first, it is now 

running smoothly. By joining or renewing on-line, you will save 

the Association substantial dollars in printing and postage and 

processing, and set the stage for future improvements in membership 

and regatta registration. 

You will benefit immediately as well. By using the on-line 

renewal, you will set yourself up for:

Scow Slants or the ILYA Web Site 

(www.ilya.org) to advertise a boat or related 

equipment. Evidently some scam artists have 

found the ILYA Web site and its classified ad 

page. One of our current advertisers told me he 

was contacted twice recently with the scam. I 

heard a similar story from two other ILYA 

members recently as well. 

The scam works something like this (with 

possible variations): The interested person 

(scammer) supposedly has a friend or business 

acquaintance who owes him money. That 

• Easy renewal in 2010 with most membership data pre-filled 

for you. 

• Easy access to your membership data so that you can change 

your address or your email address at will. 

• Membership only access to the ILYA membership database 

to search email addresses for your sailing friends, or to see 

others who share interest in your Scow or Junior or Race 

Committee categories. 

The regatta registration and membership sites are secure 

sites. After signing up, you will see a confirmation with your 

system-generated membership ID number. Your membership ID 

number or your email address, along with your self-generated 

password, will give you full access to the membership data. 

We hope that you will find that these new features make it 

easier for you to get the information that you need.

Warning: Classifieds Scam 

money (more than you are asking for the boat) is 

sent to you in the form of a cashier’s check 

(WHICH IS FAKE!). When you receive the

accept it, and you send a good check to the

responsible for it. By then you are out your good

entries will be charged a late fee of $30. 

The entry is free for skippers sailing their 

first ILYA Adult Class Regatta, and who

A 50% youth-aged skipper discount is 

available to qualifying skippers who register

Individual race trophies and the top three

Launching and Mooring: There is a 

crane available at MYC’s Carson’s Bay facility 

for launching sailboats only. The crane 

may only be operated by MYC members. 

Each yacht should have a lifting bridle for 

crane use. There is also a public ramp on the 

east side of Carson’s Bay. All boats must be 

power washed prior to launching to diminish 

the spread of invasive species. You will be 

instructed at registration how to launch your 

boat. All trailer parking will be at the 

Deephaven City Hall. 

Bring your own anchor, buoy and line 

(100 feet) in case it is needed. Boats will be 

on lifts or tied at homes, on dollies at Bug 

Island, or mooring at homes or in Carson's 

Bay. Although dry sailing is allowed for all 

yachts at this regatta, there will be no dry 

sailing allowed at the Carson's Bay facility. 

All moorings must be removed on Sunday, 

July 26. 

Spectator Fleet: Power boats can be 

launched at the public ramp on the east side of 

Carson's Bay.

Mooring: The Yacht Club has two ramps 

for launching. Dry sailing will be permitted with 

limited availability, and will be granted on a 

first-come, first-served basis based on time of

buoy, at least 20’ of anchor line, and an anchor.

Clear Lake Yacht Club is located at the foot 

of Main Street in downtown Clear Lake. If you 

are traveling on I-35, take the Hwy 18 exit (Exit 

#194) and go west on Hwy 18 to the 8th Street 

stoplight. Turn south (left) on 8th Street, and go 

to Main Avenue. Turn west (right) on Main 

Avenue through downtown to City Park. You 

will be directed around the park to the weigh and 

launch area. If you are arriving from the west on 

Hwy 18, turn south (right) at the 8th Street light, 

and proceed as described. 

Schedule 

Registration, Check-in, and Launching will 

be from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 

and from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. on Friday July 10. 

Sailing Instructions will be provided at this time. 

The Competitors’ Briefing will be held at 

9:00 a.m. Friday, July 10 at Headquarters and by 

VHF radio, channel 72. 

Racing Schedule: Six races are scheduled 

for this event. The first race is scheduled for a 

10:00 a.m. warning signal on Friday. Except 

when races are sailed back-to-back, warning 

times for subsequent races will be at the discretion 

of the Principal Race Officer. At least one of 

the scheduled races shall be reserved for Sunday, 

July 12. If two races have been completed, 

no warning signal will be made after noon on 

Sunday, July 12. In any case, no warning signal 

will be made after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12. 

Eligibility 

The regatta is open to all Class MC Scows 

whose skippers comply with the requirements 

as set out in the ILYA bylaws and are Family, 

Regular, Youth, or Life members of the ILYA. 

Crew members become members of the Association 

by virtue of the yacht’s completed registration. 

ILYA Member Club requirements apply. 

See ILYA By-laws 12.22 and 12.23. Trophy 

age requirements must be met before the

Social 

Complimentary continental breakfast will 

be available at the CLYC each morning. Lunches

Clear Lake is also hosting Bicycle, Blues 

and BBQ this weekend. We are busy coordinating 

dinner with a band in the park for Friday 

evening’s entertainment. Saturday evening the 

MC sailors, crew and guests will be hosted by 

the CLYC membership for drinks and light 

dinner.Tickets to all events will be on sale at 

registration . The CLYC is making every attempt 

to make the Invite a competitive and low 

cost and fun regatta! 

Fees 

The entry fee is $80 per boat. Entries 

should be submitted on-line or on the official 

ILYA Regatta Entry form. Entries postmarked 

or otherwise received after June 26 will incur 

late fees as specified in ILYA By-law 12.18.3 

($20). The Regatta Entry form, which includes 

the Waiver of Liability and other pertinent information, 

may be found in Scow Slants and online. 

Entry is free for skippers sailing their first 

ILYA Adult Class Regatta, and who contact the 

ILYA office and register prior to or on the early

of the Clear Lake on courses described in the 

Sailing Instructions.

Miscellaneous 

Launching: There are two ramps at the end 

of Main Street adjacent to the CLYC. Assistance 

will be provided for launching and for 

mooring in front of the club. You will be 

directed to the trailer parking area approximately 

one mile away. There will be no dry 

sailing permitted at the CLYC ( this is a city 

ordinance). 

Mooring: The CLYC mooring site is unprotected 

from west or south breezes. Bring a 

buoy with adequate line and proper anchoring 

for a mud/sand bottom in approx 10 feet of 

water. Do not anchor out past the 300 ft. marker 

or behind the sternwheeler “The Lady of the 

Lake.” All moorings must be removed by Sunday 

afternoon. While dry sailing is permitted, no 

dry sailing will be permitted on CLYC or city 

grounds. 

Taxi and Spectator Boats: Taxi service will 

be available during registration, and one hour 

before and after racing. Spectator boats will 

leave from the CLYC docks at least 15 minutes 

before the fleet's warning signal. If you have 

your own power boat, launching each day at the 

CLYC is quick and easy.

environment and a way to renew old 

friendships or create new ones. 

Lunches will be provided each day. 

Friday evening immediately after racing 

there will be free beer and light appetizers 

following racing with crowd directed to 

head to Maynard’s for Dinner. Saturday 

night will be at the clubhouse with OPEN 

BAR, plenty of bartenders and Dinner. 

Fees 

The entry fee is $96.00 per boat. Entries 

should be submitted on-line or on an 

official ILYA Regatta Entry form and postmarked 

or otherwise received by July 2,

and weighing will not be conducted, 

but each entry is bound by the 

ILYA Class C scantlings.

In accordance with ISAF Regulation 

20, this regatta is classified as an “invitational” 

Category A event. 

One race is required to be completed to 

constitute a regatta. If six or more races are 

completed, each boat shall discard her worst 

score, except when prohibited under RRS

Miscellaneous 

Launching: All boats will be launched 

from the crane located at the Carson's Bay 

facility. There is also a public ramp nearby. 

However, you will not be able to raise your 

mast before launching. Directions for 

launching and off site trailer parking will be 

given upon arrival. Please help prevent the 

spread of Eurasian milfoil and Zebra mussels. 

Be sure your rig is free from weeds 

before launch. You will be requested to 

power wash your hull and trailer prior to 

launching. 

Mooring: Each yacht should bring a 

substantial anchor and 20 feet of line. Shuttle 

boats will take boats to their mooring location. 

Although dry sailing is allowed for 

the regatta, local regulations do not allow 

dry sailing on the MYC grounds. 

Support/Spectator Boats: MYC will 

provide two crew boats for thirds along 

with spectator boats for those wishing to 

watch races from the water. Powerboat 

launching is also available at the ramp near 

the club. Powerboats may need to be left at 

anchor or at a neighboring pier.

Two big Opti regattas at LaBelle this summer

fleet in which a lake has a sailor registered, i.e., two instructors or 

more plus two motorboats are needed if the lake has sailors in both the 

Junior and Senior fleets. Instructors must check in with the regatta 

officials at the time of arrival. 

Social 

All skippers will receive lunch and post-race treats with their 

registration. Additional lunches may be purchased for a nominal fee. 

Souvenir T-shirts will be available for purchase.

Entry fee is $45 per sailor with advanced registration, $55 after 

July 15. Skippers need not be members of the ILYA in order to

3. Each boat must have a bow line of adequate length. 

4. Starboard boat has rights over port boat. 

5. Windward boat is to keep clear. 

6. Overtaking boat must keep clear. 

7. Buoy room at the leeward mark. 

8. No barging. 

9. No sculling. 

10. Other rules will be posted or communicated at the skippers’ 

briefing. 

Sailing School instructors and others as designated by the 

Principal Race Officer of each fleet will send help to any boat in need 

of assistance, whether emotional, physical, or medical. Unless 

otherwise required, spectator boats will be instructed to stay 200 yards 

from the race course.

Green Fleet: 10:30 a.m. 

Schedule of Remaining Races: Six races are scheduled in each fleet. Except 

when races are sailed back-to-back, the time of the warning signal for subsequent 

races will be posted. If one race is completed, no warning signal shall be made after 

3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5. In any case, no warning signal shall be made after 

4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5. 

Eligibility 

White Fleet (8-10 years) 

Blue Fleet (11-12 years) 

Red Fleet (13-15 years) 

Green Fleet (5-15 years) The Green fleet is for beginner sailors. No one who 

has participated in an ILYA Championship Optimist Regatta may compete on the 

Green course. 

Age will be determined as of January 1, 2009. 

All skippers must be members of the ILYA. Minimum level of ILYA 

membership is the Dinghy Membership, which can be paid directly to ILYA via 

the web site at www.ilya.org or via the application form. 

Social 

Information on social functions will be available at registration. 

Fees 

$70.00 for Red, White or Blue fleets sailors with advance registration 

postmarked or otherwise received on or before July 15. After July 15 the following 

penalties apply: $84.00 postmarked or otherwise received between July 16 and 

August 2. On site registration, if space permits, is $91. For Green fleet sailors, the 

fees are $60.00, $72.00 and $78.00. 

Entries should be submitted via the ILYA web site www.ilya.org or via the 

official ILYA Regatta Entry form. 

The registration includes a regatta shirt and lunches for each day for each 

skipper. Additional spectator lunches will be available for purchase at the regatta 

headquarters. Additional regatta T-shirts will be available on a limited basis at the 

regatta headquarters. 

Trophies 

Race trophies and 1-5 place trophies for RWB fleets will be awarded. Overall 

trophies for 1-15 will be awarded for RWB. Trophies for the top three female 

skippers overall will be awarded. All Green fleet participants will receive awards. 

Risks 

Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. 

Competitors in this event are participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, 

Decision to Race. The race organizers (organizing authority, race committee, 

protest committee, host club, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will 

not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any 

competitor, including death, sustained as a result of participation in this event. By 

participating in this event, each competitor, or in the case of minors, each 

competitor’s parent or guardian, agrees to release the race organizers from any and 

all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the 

fullest extent permitted by law. 

Rules 

1. The Regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the 

prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, the Rules and Bylaws of the 

ILYA, the rules of IODA and USODA, except as any of these are modified by the 

Sailing Instructions, and the Sailing Instructions. The Sailing Instructions will be 

available during the registration periods. 

2. The Low Point Scoring System in Appendix A of the RRS will apply, 

except that Rule A2 is changed so that each boat's total score will be the sum of her 

scores for all races. Three completed races shall constitute a regatta in the Red, 

White and Blue Fleets. One race shall constitute a regatta in the Green Fleet. 

3. The Turns Penalty shall apply. 

4. Life jackets must be worn at all times while on the water and on regatta 

piers. 

5. No swimming in the lake off the boats while racing is in progress or 

between races. 

6. No boat is permitted to race in the class unless it has a valid measurement 

certificate. 

7. The sail number and National Letter(s) shall be clearly marked on the rudder 

and daggerboard. 

8. US SAILING Appendix N-Immediate Penalties for Breaking Rule 42 will be 

in effect. 

Courses 

There shall be one course for the Red, White & Blue fleets. A separate course 

will be used for the Green Fleet. Six races are scheduled for all fleets. All fleets will 

sail both days. The Sailing instructions, available upon check-in, will illustrate the 

specific course configurations. 

Housing 

Commercial lodging is available in East Troy (Country Inn and Suites 262- 

642-2100), Mukwanago, Elkhorn, Lake Geneva, Delavan or Milwaukee (Moorland 

Road area). 

Miscellaneous 

Parents of all skippers are required to sign a waiver of liability form 

protecting the ILYA and Lake Beulah Yacht club. The waiver should accompany 

the application. 

Opti and equipment storage on the grass and grounds of LBYC will be 

available, but LBYC accepts no responsibility for equipment. 

Spectator boat launching is located at the DNR launch site on Wilmers Road.

All entries require the parent's accaptance of a waiver protecting ILYA and

Waiver of Liability for ILYA No Tears and 

IOD Championship Regattas 

WAIVER OF LIABILITY: I recognize and understand that participation in 

the regatta is voluntary, and that my child incurs risks by participating, 

including the possibility of death or injury. In consideration of the 

acceptance of my child’s entry, I waive any and all claims, charges, losses 

and liabilities including those caused by negligence, against the Inland Lake 

Yachting Association and its host clubs, their respective officers, trustees, 

contractors, employees, and members, and against any and all volunteers, 

which may arise from, or in any way be in connection with, the practices or 

activities of the regatta and its organizers. I am aware that the activities of 

my child may involve maneuvering a boat on deep waters in potentially 

hazardous conditions which may include among other things, cold water 

temperature, strong winds and high waves, sudden and unexpected 

immersion in deep waters and collision with other watercraft or stationary 

objects such as docks, pilings, and buoys. I understand that I am responsible 

for the actions of my child while he or she may be participating in the regatta 

and on the grounds of the event host, and that I am solely responsible for 

deciding whether or not my child participates or continues participating in 

the event. We also agree that the sailor will be bound by the Racing Rules of 

Sailing, the rules of ILYA and by all other rules that govern this event.

ILYA REQUIREMENTS 

Skippers residing outside of the traditional Inland states 

of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, 

and Missouri need not be members of ILYA member 

clubs in order to participate in ILYA sanctioned events. 

Skippers residing within the Inland states listed above 

must be members of an ILYA member club, or must make 

special arrangements with the ILYA Executive Secretary 

prior to the first entry deadline. 

Individual memberships in the ILYA are not required 

for persons serving as crew at Inland events. Persons who 

do register as crew members at ILYA sanctioned regattas 

will receive free subscriptions to SCOW SLANTS if crew 

addresses are supplied. 

Random measuring of boats and sails is required at all 

championship events and at some invitational and regional 

events, but all measuring costs are included in the registration 

fee. 

Sailors new to the ILYA can anticipate paying the entry 

fee and the skipper’s regular membership in the ILYA. The 

only other registration and regatta costs should be for food 

and social activities unless otherwise indicated.

ILYA Championship at this event –

August 13-15. Classes A One Design and 

MC will register Saturday afternoon 

(with some early a.m. registration on 

Sunday), and race Sunday, Monday, and 

Tuesday, August 16-18. (Class A Open 

has been discontinued; Class M-16 will 

sail at a separate venue/date.)

world that the A Scows are coming to 

Green Lake, Wis. this August for their 

ILYA Championship Regatta which

boats to a Wisconsin museum/

Green Lake regatta sponsorship challenge 

This year the ILYA returns to Green 

Lake for its Annual Championship. What a 

great venue! In a recent ILYA survey, 

Green Lake topped the list of favorite 

championship sites. Up to three fleets can 

enjoy championship caliber courses on the 

clear waters of this deep lake which has 

very little additional powerboat traffic. The 

ILYA is excited about making the 2009 

Championship one of the best ever. 

Green Lake also faces challenges in 

hosting the ILYA Championship. A small

will of local restaurants and bars to host 

the social events. Because of their limited 

membership, they often have to pay for 

some of the services that other clubs can 

cover with an army of volunteers. In 

addition, the economy has not helped to 

support local fund-raising efforts. 

Therefore, in cooperation with Green 

Lake Yacht Club, the ILYA has identified 

potential sponsorship opportunities 

to enhance the 2009 regatta experience 

for its participants while relieving the 

burden on the host club. ILYA fleets 

have already stepped forward as part of 

their promotional activities: The A scows 

are sponsoring a band for their half of the 

week. The C and E fleets are following 

suit and sponsoring a band for the first 

half of the week. The MC fleet is 

working on getting sponsorship for beer 

after racing. 

Additional support would be 

welcomed. Any business or individual 

interested in sponsoring any of the listed 

(or other) items should contact one of the

Registration: Measurement and weighin 

check will be done at Green Lake County 

Highway grounds, 600 South Street, Green 

Lake, Wis. It is three blocks south of the 

downtown marina; follow the signs. Final 

registration and launching will be done at 

Regatta Headquarters. 

All boats will be directed to the launching 

area at the Green Lake Public launch, 

downtown, by the traffic volunteers who 

will stage you via radio. All boats MUST 

have all covers off before being directed to 

the launch area. ANY BOAT THAT DOES 

NOT FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS 

WILL NOT BE LAUNCHED AND WILL 

BE DIRECTED BACK TO THE REGIS- 

TRATION AREA. 

These operations will be available as 

follows. Wednesday (E, C, I-20) or Saturday 

(A, MC) registration in encouraged to

hours on the last day of scheduled racing. In 

any case, no warning signal shall be made 

after 1300 hours on the last day of scheduled 

racing. 

Eligibility 

The regatta is open to boats of the 

Scow Classes A, MC, C, E, and I-20. The 

skipper must be a family, regular, youth or 

life member of the ILYA at the time of 

registration. Crew members become members 

of the ILYA by virtue of the yacht’s 

completed registration. ILYA Member Club 

requirements apply. See ILYA By-laws 

12.22 and 12.23.

Special Corinthian awards will be given 

in Classes E and C, and a trophy for the 

highest placing wooden E Scow, as well as 

a trophy for the highest standing female 

skipper, will also be awarded. Class C will 

also award a top junior (under 21) trophy 

and a Master trophy. 

Masters trophies will also be awarded 

in Class MC, as well as a Grand Master 

trophy and a Top Junior (under 21) award.

statutes require all boats to carry a Coast 

Guard approved PFD for each person on 

board plus a throwable at all times. All 

Wisconsin boats must have registration 

numbers and tags forward of the mast. 

Courses 

The courses to be sailed will be described 

in the Sailing Instructions. The racing 

area will be on the navigable waters of 

Green Lake and will be described at the 

Competitor Briefings or by notice on the 

Official Notice Board at Regatta Headquarters. 

Housing 

Green Lake is a resort community and 

accommodations can become quite hard to 

find. Please reserve early. 

A block of rooms is available at the 

Heidel House for the week-long event. You 

can access the block under “ILYA” or “National 

Class A Scow Association.” The 

phone number for the Heidel House is 800- 

444-2812. They have a tiered rate system. 

They have offered $149 per night for ‘run 

of the house’ rooms (they guarantee a specific 

rate, with a possible variety of room 

types being utilized), $179 per night for 

deluxe lake view rooms, and $219 per night 

for one bedroom suites.

Miscellaneous 

Boat Removal: On Saturday, August 

15, and Tuesday, August 18, boats will be 

removed from the lake. 

ALL BOATS MUST HAVE THEIR MAST 

DOWN BEFORE PROCEEDING TO THE 

LAUNCHING AREA. Traffic volunteers 

and the Green Lake police will direct traffic. 

COVERS, BUNKS AND GENERAL 

CLEAN UP OF BOATS WILL NOT BE 

ALLOWED IN THE LAUNCH AREA. 

This MUST be done in the registration 

location at the Green Lake county grounds. 

Mooring 

No dry sailing will be allowed in the 

headquarters area. Participants are expected, 

though not required, to moor in the 

designated areas in Dartford Bay and the 

bay and lagoon adjacent to Hattie Sherwood 

Park. All competitors mooring there must 

provide adequate ground tackle for a soft 

bottom approximately 10 to 15 feet in depth. 

Green Lake Yacht Club will provide 

taxi boats from the main headquarters and 

a short pier located near the former registration 

area near Hattie Sherwood Park for 

those participants moored, and parked in 

that area. 

Parking at the headquarters will be at a 

premium. A walk of several blocks may be 

required. Competitors are encouraged to 

drop off their crew and sails, etc. at headquarters 

and then find a place to park. For 

those moored at Hattie Sherwood area, 

parking is available in the field used for 

registration in past regattas. All trailers 

shall be stored at the County Highway 

grounds adjacent to registration. 

Local Regulations: Green Lake has a 

200-foot no wake zone and no boat may be 

moored more than 200 feet from shore in 

the lake proper. Please slow to no wake 

whenever your powerboat is within 200 

feet from shore.

Practice Race: A combined practice race 

for any Senior or Junior who wishes to participate 

will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 

July 22. More details will be available at Checkin. 

Competitors Briefings: The competitors’ 

briefings will immediately follow the opening 

ceremonies, which begin at 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, 

July 22, at Headquarters. All clubs are 

asked to have someone represent their club with 

a burgee that will be flown during the regatta. 

Race Schedule 

The Warning Signal for the first race, July 

23, will be at 10:00 a.m. Except when races are 

sailed back to back, the approximate time of the 

warning signal for subsequent races will be 

posted. 

If three races are completed, no warning

Eligibility 

The Regatta is open to skippers who comply 

with the requirements prescribed by the 

ILYA bylaws and are Family, Regular, Youth, 

or Life members of the ILYA. Crew become 

members of the Association by virtue of their 

yacht’s completed registration. For membership

All skippers in Class X and crew who turn 

16 during or after the calendar year 2009 may 

participate. Only skippers who turn 14 or younger 

in the calendar year 2009 are eligible to sail in 

the Junior Fleet. Skippers who turn 15 or 16 

during the calendar year 2009 must sail in the 

Senior Fleet. Crew members may sail in either 

fleet as long as they are not older than 16 in the 

calendar year 2009. 

Social 

Wednesday Evening: Opening Ceremony 

Picnic at GLYC. Volleyball tournament starts. 

Thursday Afternoon: Annual X Fleet meeting 

1 hour after the last race concludes at GLYC. 

Thursday Evening: A night on your own to 

enjoy the many surrounding area activities. 

GLYC will have some family activity suggestions 

(go-cart, mini-golf, etc). 

Friday Evening: Regatta Party at historic 

Grandview Lodge on the north shore of Gull 

Lake, including social hour, buffet dinner, volleyball, 

dancing to DJ music, and ongoing professional 

video and slide show of the previous 2 

days of sailing. 

Volleyball: Tournament will be held 

throughout the regatta, starting Wednesday 

evening at the picnic. 

More Activities: Go to GLYC web site for 

a list of local area activities (golfing, fishing, 

dining, boat rental, shopping, bike rentals, etc). 

Fees 

The entry fee is $100 per yacht. Registration 

payments must be postmarked or otherwise 

received by July 10 to avoid a $20 late entry fee 

prescribed by the ILYA bylaw 12.18.30d. Registrations 

on site are subject to a $30 late penalty. 

Lunch and Social tickets and Regatta Wear 

may be purchased at check-in. 

Trophies 

Perpetual trophies are awarded to the winning 

skippers of each race. The top 15 skipper 

and crew in both the Junior and Senior fleets will 

receive trophies. The top female skippers in 

each fleet will also receive individual trophies. 

A final trophy presentation will follow the racing.

GULL. ALL BOATS will BE POWER 

WASHED PRIOR TO LAUNCHING IN 

GULL. 

Dry sailing will be allowed, but dry sailing 

will not be allowed on site at Gull Lake Yacht 

Club. Most resorts have ramps. The mooring 

area will be in front of GLYC. 

Adequate mooring anchor and line must be 

provided by each skipper for a depth of 6-15 feet 

and a hard, sandy bottom . NOTE: GLYC is 

located on the open water of GLYC. If overnight 

severe storm weather is threatening, moorings 

can be moved into adjacent and well protected 

“Love Lake,” located via a small inlet 

approximately 1/16th mile to the north of GLYC.

The GLYC launch ramp is shallow. 

Powerboats will need to launch at one of the four 

DNR deep water launch ramps on Gull Lake, or 

at one of the local resorts if you are guest. Maps 

and details will be available at Check-In. No 

overnight powerboat mooring at GLYC. Smaller 

coach's inflatables will be allowed to launch at 

GLYC. 

The ILYA measurer will be present at Gull 

Lake to assist with compliance issues. The scale 

will be there again for those of you desiring to be 

weighed, and to assist with double deck trailers. 

This year, as in the past, we will be requiring 

boats to be weighed only if the weight sticker is 

missing or the weight’s seals are not intact. 

Competitors with their stickers and seals intact 

will not have to be weighed but may do so 

optionally if they wish. Boats will also be required 

to have names and proper deck letters as 

outlined in the rules, and will be checked for this 

as well.
