ART 4253 Painting III Intermediate<br />

This course concludes the more complex series of studio experiences based on problems designed to acquaint the<br />

student with the possibilities of various painting media and approaches to painting. Students are encouraged to explore<br />

and develop a personal direction for their work.<br />

ART 4254 Printmaking III Advanced<br />

This course completes the final more complex series of printmaking learning experiences. Students in this course will<br />

apply more highly developed printmaking procedures in relief, intaglio, lithography, serigraphy, and experimental<br />

forms. The course will give the student a more sophisticated understanding of the possibilities of the printmaking<br />

media. Individual solutions are encouraged after basic technical procedure has been learned.<br />

ART 4255 Sculpture III Advanced<br />

In this course students complete a more advanced understanding of the many three-dimensional design problems<br />

associated with sculpture. Students will continue their exploration of various media in a variety of approaches including<br />

additive, subtractive, manipulative, and casting techniques.<br />

ART 4282, 4283, 4284 Apprenticeship I, II and III: Advanced Studio<br />

Prerequisite: Advanced Studio Art (Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, or Water Media) course at<br />

either 3000 or 4000 level.<br />

The <strong>HBU</strong> Art Apprenticeship Program is an art studio concentration for individual art students who are accepted on an<br />

individual basis to do academic work in an apprentice capacity with one of the artist-in-residence members of the<br />

faculty. The students will be accepted into the program by invitation from the department chairman upon a review of<br />

the student‘s portfolio and academic records by the department‘s artists-in-residence. Upon acceptance into the<br />

program the student will work toward individual semester hours designated as Apprenticeship credit hours.<br />

ART 4285 Experimental Painting<br />

Prerequisite: ART 2233 or 2243 or 2253; plus ART 3233 or 3243 or 3253<br />

Directed study of a minimum of thirty hours for each hour of credit. Topics and projects are selected based on student<br />

interest and need. Open to Art majors only.<br />

ART 4292 Senior Seminar: Studio<br />

Prerequisite: See Note 9 under ―Undergraduate Degree Requirements‖.<br />

This course provides a format for the production of a body of art works in a studio setting. The student will go through<br />

a process in which s/he presents a written document presenting the proposal for the body of works, the process by<br />

which the works are to be made or produced, and the aesthetic ideas which are the basis of the works. Part of the<br />

research includes meeting with the entire Art faculty for the purpose of enriching the possibilities for the chosen media.<br />

The final grade will be determined by a jury of the entire Art faculty.<br />

ART 4293 Senior Seminar: Portfolio<br />

Prerequisites: ART 4292 and Note 9 under ―Undergraduate Degree Requirements‖.<br />

A continuation of ART 4292, during this course the student will build a body of work based upon the complexity and<br />

application of historical sources presented in Studio I. Students will successfully present their work in an official Senior<br />

Seminar exhibition, and a portfolio of a visual presentation of photographs, a personal vita, and a written description of<br />

the body of works is to be combined into a complete professional styled format. The final grade will be determined by a<br />

jury of the entire Art faculty.<br />

BIOCHEMISTRY-MOLECULAR BIOLOGY<br />

BCMB 3375 Human Genetics<br />

Prerequisite: BIOL 3301, 3444<br />

This course will introduce students to the basic concepts of human genetics and its molecular and clinical implications.<br />

Topics include the chromosomal, molecular, and biochemical basis of disease, prenatal diagnosis, and genetic<br />

counseling. (Also offered as BIOL 3375.)<br />

BCMB 3414 Microbiology<br />

Prerequisites: BIOL 2454, 2455, and 3301.<br />

This course is a general survey of the microorganisms and includes the morphology, physiology, and control of the<br />

organisms most important to humans. The microbiology of soil, food, water, and disease will be considered. This<br />

course includes one semester hour credit for laboratory sessions. (Also offered as BIOL 3414.)<br />
