<strong>Piedmont</strong> Theatre Faculty & Staff Welcome 4 Bill Gabelhausen Associate Professor and Department Chair Originally from Peoria, Ill., Bill Gabelhausen is an Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Theatre and program coordinator for the new Drama Education degree. He received a BFA in Drama from Illinois Wesleyan University, an MFA in Acting from Pennsylvania State University, and a Master’s in Education from UGA. He spent 11 years working as a professional actor performing in National Tours (Chorus Line, 1776, The Elephant Man, & Taming of the Shrew) and Regional Theaters throughout the Midwest and Eastern United States. He was also involved in casting the original Broadway production of Big River, the Off-Broadway production of Beehive and many others. j. Henry johnson Associate Professor Henry Johnson started his professional theatre career at Highlands Playhouse Theatre in Highlands, N.C. 32 years ago. He has worked as a technician, a lighting designer, a scenic designer, and as a box office manager. Johnson’s credits include The Caldwell Playhouse in Boca Raton, Fla., and The Williams Town Theatre Festival in Williams Town, Mass. He has worked for ABC, CBS and NBC on several television specials, series, and made-for-television movies. Film work includes Deliverance and The Long Riders. While in New York, Johnson worked for MicMac Studio building scenery for Saturday Night Live and several MTV productions. john F. spiegel Assistant Professor John Spiegel comes to <strong>Piedmont</strong> <strong>College</strong> after a short stint at Presbyterian <strong>College</strong> in Clinton, S.C. He is a Georgia native who grew up in Atlanta. After graduating high school from the Westminster Schools, He received his BA from Davidson <strong>College</strong> and his MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has participated in theatre at all levels from children’s theatre to Broadway. Over the course of directing more than 50 shows, he remembers fondly his chance to direct at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Most recently he has been exploring professional television and film. You may have seen his work as executive producer of The Chronicles of Bob or as the host of Ancient Marine Mammals. He also serves as a board member of the Southeastern Theatre Conference as well as the SETC Chair for Theatre for Youth. natalie crawford director of marketing & audience development Natalie Crawford came to <strong>Piedmont</strong> with a lifelong love of the arts and background in corporate marketing and business development. A marriage of the two gives her a unique view of arts administration She works to increase community awareness of <strong>Piedmont</strong>’s fine arts offerings in art, music, and theatre which includes summer camps, Theatre for Young Audiences, the Fine Arts <strong>College</strong> Experience, and numerous productions in all three areas throughout the academic year. Also very active in the local community, Natalie is Chair of the Cornelia Hospitality & Tourism Committee and Vice-Chair of the Cornelia Downtown Development Authority. Natalie holds a B.A. in English and is an M.B.A candidate. kathy blandin adjunct Professor, theatre education Kathy Blandin has worked in the field of theatre since 1987 as a drama specialist in the public schools, and as faculty at Albion <strong>College</strong> and Western Michigan University. She moved into non-profit administration in 1998 as the Director of the Southeast Institute for Education in Theatre at the University of Tennessee–Chattanooga and then she became Head of Cliff Valley School in Atlanta in 2001. She is currently the Executive Director of the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association. Kathy holds a Ph.D. in Theatre in Education from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, an M.F.A. in Creative Drama/Children’s Theatre from the University of Texas, and a B.A. in Theatre On behalf of the entire <strong>Piedmont</strong> <strong>College</strong> Theatre Department’s faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to our 2011-2012 season. We thank you for joining us tonight; your participation in live theatre is essential to us and our art form. As we constructed the current season, our goal was to challenge our students as artists and enlighten our public as audience members. It is our intent that these four shows will do just that. We offer up to you the following shows: South Pacific A Christmas Carol A Little Night Music The Nerd This academic year marks a new beginning for us at the <strong>Piedmont</strong> <strong>College</strong> Theatre Department. In conjunction with the Music Department, 2011-2012 marks the launch of our new Musical Theatre degree. In celebration of this newest degree, we are offering you two musicals, a main-stay of a holiday tradition, and an uproarious comedy. Our goal is to bring these four different worlds to life on the stage for you. During this creation process we hope to stretch ourselves as artists and enlighten you as audience members. It is our hope that you will not only find great joy in these productions but also a little bit of yourself. Use theatre as a looking glass; discover new things about you and those around you.
