Welcome It is my pleasure to present to you Rashi’s 2008 Annual Report. My first year as Head of Rashi was a most produc- tive one. The school made significant progress – from implementing enhanced science and Jewish studies curricula, to holding our first schoolwide Design Day, to strengthening our technological capabilities. We added two successful community events – the Sukkot Festival and Cocktails in the Catskills – and premiered a powerful new video. We also secured significant funding for the new building in Dedham and exceeded an ambitious goal for our Annual Appeal. Our mission – to cultivate critical minds and compassionate hearts – directs our energies and focuses our efforts. This report highlights activities of the past year and lists donors to our annual and capital campaigns. On behalf of the school, I want to thank each of you for your support. It is your generosity that enables us to maintain and strengthen our programs which serve our students, as well as to plan for our future. I continue to be energized by this vibrant community and I look forward to even more progress in the coming year. My very best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year. Kehillah President’s Message It is a privilege for me to serve as President of The Rashi School and to welcome you to the pages of this Annual Report. Rashi is a true community – a kehillah – and that spirit of community was very much evident in 2007-08. Our faculty and staff came together to take our teaching and curriculum to the next level with a strong commitment to teamwork and ongoing learning. Our Board members forged a strong foundational partnership with our new Head of School, worked diligently to secure a permanent home for Rashi, and began the process of evolving our annual campaign – undertaking each of these objectives with boundless energy, passion, and talent. Our parents supported us, provided input, and entrusted us with the great responsibility of educating their children. Our supporters in the community bolstered our efforts and enabled the school to strengthen its program and facilities. All the members of our kehillah helped Rashi to move forward. Looking back at 2007-08, the Rashi community has much to celebrate. We took great strides towards securing Rashi’s future as we moved ahead with our plan to build a beautiful new school on a multi-generational campus in Dedham. We refined our building design to be more efficient while maintaining its beauty and functionality. The Campaign For Rashi has secured well over $24.6 million in pledges, enabling us to work to secure financing to break ground in the fall in anticipation of a move to the new site for the start of school in September of 2010. I want to thank each of you who supported the Campaign for Rashi as well as our Annual Appeal. We worked hard this year to broaden community understanding of the critical need for annual support and we are delighted that we were able to maintain extraordinary annual support even as we doubled our capital fundraising. I feel very grateful that Rashi has so many talented, committed supporters who have given of their time and money to achieve a beautiful, unique and meaningful vision – in our program and in the facility that is to house it. As I conclude my second year as President, I want to thank the many individuals with whom I have had the privilege of working: the Board of Trustees, the school administration, parents, faculty and staff, and the school’s friends and donors. Your commitment and continued generosity make our goals attainable. Together, as partners, we are achieving great things for our children and the Jewish people.
