The past month has been a very one busy in our Lodge. Weather this past week was quite uncomfortable for a couple of days but today the sun is bright and the temperatures more moderate. On May 17, several members and officers attended the Algonquin Arts Theatre annual Gala. The theme was decidedly American. We honored Harry Eichorn for his great work with youth music in the community over the years. Rich Little entertained us with his many voices of Presidents and other celebrities. The fund raiser which we helped sponsor was a great success and over $70,000 was raised to help support the growth of the arts in Manasquan. Later in May, a large contingent of Manasquan Elks attended “Dancing with the Starz” which was sponsored by the Brielle- Spring Lake Rotary club. This fund raiser supported numerous charities. A big highlight was that one of our own, Broadway Ray Soehngen danced to support cystic fibrosis. He did a wonderful job as did the other contestants. We initiated our first class of the new Elk year on May 22. This was the first time we initiated new members during a regular Lodge meeting. The entire meeting flowed smoothly and the new members commented about the performance by the officers but also about the charity work we funded that evening. Our next class will be held on June 26. We’ll do the initiation as a part of the regular lodge meeting one again. Please turn out to support our new members. The Memorial day ceremonies on May 28 were very touching. The Mayor gave a moving speech as did many others representing many organizations from the local community. Our member Carl Osborn was the honoree and it was really great to have so many Elks there to remember the fallen but also to honor Carl and Pearl. It was a magnificent day for a parade and the Manasquan Mike Mike Sinneck Sinneck Elks really turned out in force. I want to thank everyone who marched. You really looked great and your patriotism plainly showed through. The annual NJSEA Convention was held in Wildwood. It was awesome. Everyone there seemed to have a great time despite some crazy weather on Friday. As is tradition we marched in the parade and over 70 members turned out to represent your Lodge. Man did we look good. So good in fact that Manasquan took 4 th place in the march for lodges with more than 501 members. This is a really big deal but it is made more special by the MHS Band which took 1 st Place overall in the State. The MHS band was great and everyone there commented on how good they were. Barbara McCredie and I presented the award plaque to Alan Abraham and the MHS band on June 14 at their annual banquet held at the Manasquan 1 st Aid building. The students, parents and faculty were super excited with the award and recognition for their effort. Number 1 in the State of NJ! Noel Benkoil and the Convention Committee did an incredibly job arranging the myriad details that go into making the Convention a success. Please thank Noel when you see her for a job very well done. Karaoke night was another great success. Lillian Beebe and her committee did a fantastic job as usual. Many of us “crooned” the night away and all had a few laughs. There are many members who have very nice singing voices and we really enjoyed listening to them. At the regular monthly Lodge breakfast we honored the 154 th Water Purification and Distribution Company of the NJ National Guard. They are based in Sea Girt and in the past had been deployed to Iraq. Their Family Readiness Group (FRG) was there in support of the soldiers. We presented their company commander and head of the FRG with commemorative plaques and in return we received a memorial coin which was passed by handshake to me. This is quite an Continued on Page 7
