New Series Caliper Brakes
We define applications and conditions of ICP products for their correct use, in order to observe the security rules,
according to EEC Directive 85/374.
GENERAL FEATURES
ICP Caliper brakes are designed to operate within the technical specifications described in this catalogue. It is
important not to exceed the technical specifications that they are designed for.
APPLICATION CHOICE
When selecting your ICP Caliper brake it is important to note the correct design process and safety factor for the
application. For Fail-safe brakes, the safety factor should be not less than 2. Please contact the ICP customer service team
when choosing your Caliper brake to ensure it is the correct product for the application.
USE
Please follow the Mounting and Maintenance instruction manual in order to follow the correct safety procedures.
Note: Spring Applied Caliper brakes contain compressed springs, therefore it is important to pay due care and attention
during mounting and maintenance of these brakes.
MOUNTING AND MAINTENANCE
Operators are advised to respect ECC Directive 89/656 and 89/686, using appropriate protective clothing and equipment,
(example: gloves, safety glasses, helmets and shoes) in order to avoid any accidents.
MOVING PARTS
Moving parts must be protected according to EEC Directive 89/393 , 91/386, 93/44 and 93/68 or according to the
equivalent rules effective in the countries where they are used.
FRICTION MATERIALS
Caliper brakes are supplied with asbestos free friction pads. Nevertheless, it is very important not to breathe friction dust
produced during the normal working of the brake. If in contact with friction material, please ensure your hands are clean
before drinking or eating food.
OILS, GREASES AND LUBRICANTS
Oils, greases and lubricants are used in limited quantity, to respect the environment. If in contact with these products
please wash your hands before drinking or eating. Hydraulic Caliper brakes require the use of Mineral Oil SAE ISO 46.

STORAGE
Operators are advised to respect EEC Directive 89/656 and 89/686 for the use of the correct protective clothing and
equipment, (such as gloves, safety glasses, helmets, safety shoes), to be protected against load, weight and to avoid any
accidents. Extra care should always be taken when storing caliper brakes at height and due consideration given to the
accumulative weight. Brakes are supplied with rubber seals that can generate toxic gas in case of fire. We suggest
firemen to use correct equipment such as gas masks.
DISPOSING
Disposal and recycling of used oil must follow EEC Directive 75/439, or the current laws of the country where it is used.
We suggest to remove the friction materials, once worn out, and dispose of according the laws of the country where it is
used, in European Directive 75/442.
CALIPER BRAKES FEATURES AND SPECIAL OPTIONS ON REQUEST
ICP Caliper brakes offer a wide range of solutions and specifications on request for different requirements and
applications:
- Remote control, giving the possibility of a remote operation for manual Caliper brakes.
STANDARD
- Friction cover for tensioning applications.
OPTIONAL
- Friction pad wear compensation.

- Friction material wear indicator, to monitor spare parts management and to avoid functional problems & machine downtime.

- Retaining screw for spring applied brakes for safety during the mounting and maintenance operations.

every requirement. Years of experience combined with a continuous feedback from many different users and a careful
analysis of their demands, has allowed us to develop a range of products that revolutionises the caliper brake concept
with the introduction of many improvements and innovative technical solutions.
With an extended range of Caliper Brakes, now with six modes, we are able to offer a wide selection, giving
consideration to brake torque, dimension , mode of assembly and disc brake thickness.
- Hand operated Caliper Brakes - Adjustable braking is manually implemented by the operator with the rotation of a
handwheel mechanism or by a remote control linkage.
- Caliper Brakes pneumatically applied spring released - Braking is implemented by air pressure
- Caliper Brakes spring applied pneumatically released - Braking is implemented by springs and released by air pressure.
- Duo Caliper Brakes - The advantages of both brake calipers pneumatically applied/spring released and brake calipers
spring applied/pneumatically released in one single pneumatic thruster, saving space and cost.
- Caliper Brakes hydraulically applied spring released - Braking is implemented by hydraulic pressure.
- Caliper Brakes spring applied hydraulically released- Braking is implemented by springs and released by hydraulic

1. Self-aligning System with sliding caliper arms
The unique self-aligning system with patented orthogonal sliding, of sliding caliper arms, introduces several
improvements.
Both caliper arms are hinged on two steel slides allowing them to move perpendicular to the disc. This freedom of
movement allows the caliper to self-align perfectly to the disc ensuring complete pad contact with the brake disc face.
In this configuration, the thruster (A) is supported by the arm control lever (B) that can move only orthogonally. In this
way the weight of the thruster doesn’t cause the friction pads to fall into the disc when the brake is open. Freedom of
movement combined with the axial configuration of the thruster also allows an easier brake installation.

2. Central Support Modular System
The concept of modularity has always been a central objective in design choices. The modular system for caliper brake
combines high performance and small size with the possibility to simply re configure the caliper brake if necessary.
It is possible to replace the central caliper bracket to vary the thickness of the brake disc, or replace the thruster if
necessary. For example, if a larger braking force is required, simply increase the thruster/brake disc thickness as required
but without changing the complete brake.
The patented system with double lever and central changeable bracket allows more than 25 different configurations
using a single caliper body. This solution applies to two sets of caliper brakes below:
- CB 3 Series,entirely made of aluminium is small, lightweight and compact for low torque applications.
- CB 4 Series is more rugged, more powerful, with increased friction pads and recovery system.

3. New Compact Thruster
The innovation also involves the thrusters. The new compact range of actuators is the optimal solution to fulfill all
requirements of strength and compactness.
The new patented system positions the pneumatic thruster between the two series CB 1 - CB 4 caliper levers with an
important size reduction. In all thrusters of the new range of caliper brakes the old seal diaphragm has been replaced by
a more modern and compact rubber seal for reciprocating motions.
This design choice means a smaller thruster, more rugged and reliable, while maintaining the same power.

Mounting CBM 7 / CB7
Mounting Instructions
1. Release the two M12 screws (3) to
separate the mounting base (1) from
the Caliper brake (2)
2. Fasten the mounting base (1) to
the machine (5) with two M12 socket
head cap screws (4)
3. Mount the caliper brake (2) using
the two screws M12 (3) and complete
the fitting with screw M12 (6)
4. The caliper brake properly mounted
will appear as in the picture
