November 2 – 4, 2011, Exhibition CentrE Frankfurt / Main
Tunisia
Tunisia participates in the AIRTEC 2011 with a joint stand
Tunisia: a performing partner in the Aerospace industry
Tunisia will be participating in this year’s
AIRTEC for the first time. Over the last decade,
the aerospace industry in Tunisia has
experienced a tremendous expansion.
Tunisian companies in the aerospace sector
are exporting two-thirds of the overall production
worth 124 Million Dollars mostly to
France. Exports are expected to reach 401
In Tunisia, the aerospace industry can rely
on the 4,500 engineers and technicians
that graduate annually and it is expected
that by 2014, they will be 9,000. They
represent one of the most competitive talent
pools of the region. At comparable levels
of qualification, Tunisia offers competitive
wage costs in proportions ranging from 1
to 5 compared to European countries.
trained, and their capacity to respect very
specific work instructions of the aerospace
industry.”, says Gaby Lopez, Director General
of Zodiac Aerospace Tunisia.
The Tunisian infrastructure is another important
aspect. The airport, port, road
and telecommunication infrastructure is
considered among the most modern in the
million dollars by 2016. The activities of
the Tunisian aerospace industry have high
value added. They range from software
and hardware engineering to production of
aircraft systems and high precision turning
and machining for space.
Another locational advantage is the excellent
availability of well-trained manpower.
Even in the sector of education and recruiting
Tunisia made great efforts and
progress. Actually the country counts 15
sectoral training centres to international
standards, directly linked to the aerospace
industry. „What encouraged most our development
in Tunisia is the education level
of people with qualifications that are almost
equal to those of Europe, their ability to be
southern shore of the Mediterranean and
in Africa. Tunisia also has about a hundred
industrial zones and 10 competitiveness
poles including that of Sousse (centre of Tunisia),
specializing in mechanical and electronic
industries as well as the Aeropole in
El Mghira, an area dedicated exclusively to
the aerospace industry. The Aeropole in El
Mghira is an integrated industrial platform,
located in the southern suburbs of Tunis,
which covers an area of over 200 hectares
including 20 hectares dedicated to the Aerospace
Park AEROLIA. Being a subsidiary
of the European aerospace group EADS,
the AEROLIA is specialized in the construction
of aircraft components.
The favourable investment environment is
another great advantage. The Tunisian Association
of Aerospace Industries (GITAS)
for example supports manufacturers and
investors in the aerospace branch, counting
currently 33 members. There are also
several national institutions that provide active
support and assistance to investors like
the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency
(FIPA-Tunisia), the Agency for the Promotion
of industry and innovation (APII), the Centre
for Export Promotion (CEPEX) and the Technical
Centre for Mechanical and Electronic
Industries (CETIME).
In addition, the Tunisian Revolution of January
2011 introduced the premises for a
real takeoff of the national economy and
accordingly sees a promising future in the
aviation industry supported by a healthier
business climate with greater transparency,
better governance and encouraging private
initiative.
Under this year’s motto “Aerospace – The
global innovation driver” the international
conference “Supply on the wings” takes
place as part of AIRTEC 2011 for the 6 th
time.
The high class conference brings together
renowned experts from all fields of the
aerospace and aerospace supply industry
and academia to discuss current topics of
the aerospace industry, latest developments
and research results but also to generate
new contacts and to intensify existing ones.
The highlights of the conference are 10 keynote
presentations from high level speakers
from Airbus Innovation Cell, Boeing,
Embraer, ASRI (China), Aerospace Cytec,
Spirit, German Aerospace Center (DLR),
Rolls Royce, Mistras Group and NASA. In
total the conference programme combines
67 presentations from 20 countries. The
conference Chairman of this 3-day conference
will be again Prof. Dr.-Ing. Richard
Degenhardt, PFH Göttingen and German
Aerospace Centre (DLR), Braunschweig.
Vice Chairman is Dr. Leslie Cohen, Hitco
Carbon Composite Inc., USA.
Since 2011 the Aerospace Industry receives
a strong growth and has a strong
effect on OEMs and suppliers. A great demand
for aircraft, which in turn has a strong
influence on suppliers and SMEs from
the supply chain, comes particularly from
growth countries such as India, China and
Russia. Growing markets, for example the
composite sector, offer opportunities and
challenges for the aviation industry. Intensive
networking across different sectors and
technologies is the key to success. OEMs
are seeking for powerful and reliable suppliers
to secure their production capacity
and quality as well to increase those factors.
AIRTEC offers here an ideal and worldwide
important platform.
Composites are continuing to gain a great
importance, because the aircrafts have to
become lighter. The development of composites
increases technological challenges,
however, offers great opportunities for innovative
SMEs.
New at AIRTEC 2011, is that conference
participants who are coming from various
fields, ranging from engineering to research
and development, take part in the B2Bmeetings.
The conferences are integrated in
the exhibition hall in order to promote the
exchange between conference participants
and exhibitors.
The conference focuses on all aspects of
current and future aerospace products. One
ma-jor topic is composite structures. Other
important topics are “metallic structures”,
production, improved simulation, engines,
systems and components, non-destructive
inspection, the aerospace supply chain,
whole aircraft design, “Life Cycle Assessment”
and others.
Morocco - an attractive aerospace location near Europe
Morocco participates in AIRTEC 2011 for the first time with a joint stand
Consolidated by GIMAS, the Moroccan Association
for the Aerospace industry, many
companies from North Africa will show
their performance.
GIMAS was founded in 2004 with the aim
to further promote this sector and to support
business start-ups in Morocco.
Morocco has established itself as an attractive
location for the aerospace industry.
Over the past years the fast growing
Moroccan Aerospace sector has attracted
more and more investors. Starting from almost
zero during the last ten years this sector
has developed vividly and now comprises
almost 90 companies employing more
than 7,500 people. The reported revenues
for 2010 are estimated to be over $ 595
million.
Many of the Moroccan aerospace companies
are located on the travel route Casablanca
- Rabat and the duty free zone of
Tangier. The rapid development of the aerospace
sector was supported by the public
and private sector – for example by wellknown
companies such as EADS, Boeing,
SAFRAN among others.
EADS, for example, is represented in Morocco
with EADS Maroc Aviation manufacturing
and assembling aero structures of
metal and composites. Another key player
in Morocco is SNECMA SAFRAN: Snecma
Morocco Engine Services (SMES), located
at Casablanca airport was established in
cooperation with Royal Air Maroc and offers
maintenance and repair of aircraft engines.
MATIS Aerospace is a cooperation
of Royal Air Maroc and Boeing producing
cable systems at Casablanca airport.
In recent years the number of start-ups in
these sectors has increased considerably.
Thus in Morocco numerous suppliers are
well established and deliver to North America
and Europe.
Morocco catches up with the trend in the
aerospace industry outsourcing an increasing
number of manufacturing processes.
Morocco signifies high know-how, attrac-
