More than 2500 guests attended a series of 10 ceremonies in 

April and May, held to present the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s 

2010 National Site Awards. Presented by a number of leading 

industry figures, 3 events took place in Manchester, 1 in 

Edinburgh and 6 in London. From over 7600 eligible sites, 

580 were selected as National Site Award winners in the categories 

of Gold, Silver and Bronze. One of the Gold winning sites was also 

honoured with the prestigious accolade of the UK’s Most Considerate 

Site 2010, and 17 sites were recognised as runners up for this title. 

The Considerate Constructors Scheme’s Annual National Site Awards 

have been presented every year since 1998 and are given to around 

the highest scoring 71/2% of sites, monitored by the Scheme, which 

have completed in the previous year. The Awards recognise sites’ 

excellent standards of consideration towards their workforce, their 

neighbours and the environment.

T4 Project, Beevor Court

This project involved the construction of a support 

accommodation unit of a sensitive nature on a 

brownfield site. 

Despite not being easily visible to the general public, 

this site maintained scrupulous standards of cleanliness 

and overall presentation both within the site and on the 

boundary and surrounding areas. The total absence of 

obstructions or debris contributed significantly to safety 

levels for site operatives and visitors, and 

complemented extensive further safety initiatives to 

achieve a top score. The level of attention paid to 

environmental concerns was equally exemplary: bat 

and owl boxes were provided in the adjacent woodland 

and a unique habitat for slow-worms was carefully 

created. Energy usage, waste and the use of materials 

on site was also tightly controlled. 

The team worked with their waste contractor to 

facilitate a successful school visit to a waste separation 

plant, and assisted a local football club in clearing the 

ground of Japanese Knotweed. Staff welfare facilities

This was a relatively small site, but one which was truly 

committed to every aspect of considerate site practices. 

Described by the Scheme's Monitor as “The best I have 

ever seen”, it demonstrated what can be achieved by a 

Site Manager with limited resources and set a new 

benchmark for considerate construction.
