How to create an Accelerometer in Hypermesh for use in LS-DYNA

Option 1

• Create an elastic material collector (type 1) and use the following properties

o Rho = 7.89E-09

o E = 210000

o NU = 0.3

• Create a properties collector using SecSld as card image

• Create a component collector and call it accelerometer

• Create a 25 mm x 25 mm x 25mm cube in the new component you just created.

• Link component, material and properties

• Translate the accelerometer you just created to the location specified in your test report (tools, translate)

• Create a *CONSTRAINED_NODAL_RIGID_BODY

o Select 1D menu

o Select rigids

o Select multiple nodes (as in figure below)

o Select all 8 nodes of cube, and the 4 nodes to connect to your part (make sure you select all 8

nodes of the cube)

o Select create (figure below)

• Select card

o Select element (click on the NRB you just created)

o Select edit

o Set the IPRT option to 1 (figure below)

• Go to the BCs menu

• Select control cards

o Select Next (next page)

o Select CONTROL_OUTPUT

• Turn on the optional card

• Set IPRTF to 2 (MAKE SURE IT IS SET = 2)

• Select return

o Select DATABASE_OPTION

• Set RBDOUT to be 2E-04

• Select return

Option 2

• Create a rigid material collector (type 20) and use the following properties

o Rho = 7.89E-09

o E = 210000

o NU = 0.3

• Create a properties collector using SecSld as card image

• Create a component collector and call it accelerometer

• Create a 25 mm x 25 mm x 25 mm cube in the new component you just created.

• Link component, material and properties

• Translate the accelerometer you just created to the location specified in your test report (tools, translate)

• Connect your accelerometer (solid element) to sheet metal (based on location) using extra nodes for rigid

bodies (connects a rigid body, accelerometer, to a non-rigid body)

o Select BCs

o Select interfaces

o Toggle create

o Type in a name

o Type and card image = XtraNode

o Select create edit

o Select PID from the LS-DYNA card

o Select the accelerometer component you just created

o Toggle add

o Select entity (under slave)

o Select 4 nodes representing the accelerometer attachment

o Select add

o If you turn the element handle on in your options menu you will be able to see the slave nodes

associated with the rigid part that you just added

• Create a triangular element representing your co-ordinate system

o Under element types change tri3 to accel and update the element you just created

• Assign accelerometer properties (i.e. selecting the output nodes) to the solid element

o Select tools menu

o Select safety menu

o Select output block

o Name = acc1

o Select the node you want to output data

o Select create

o You can view your LS-DYNA card that you just created by selecting edit.
