A GUIDE TO NATURE AT THE DATAI
Langkawi, Malaysia (7 th January 2011) ‐ Langkawi is a mystical island
of jungle‐covered mountains, lakes, caves and waterfalls, swathed
with legends of romance and mystery. Located on the northwestern
tip of the island, The Datai Langkawi is surrounded by centuries‐old
virgin rainforest with its entire natural flora and fauna abound.
As part of the hotel’s contribution to the environment and its ecosurrounding,
The Datai Langkawi offers morning and evening nature
walks to resident guests in an effort to educate guests of the flora and
fauna surrounding the hotel and island. This easy walk which takes
about one and half hours from the hotel lobby is provided almost
daily on complimentary basis by a team of resident naturalists.
The rainforest surrounding The Datai is home to a rich variety of flora
and fauna. Within this unique habitat, a fragile world of interdependence has evolved. Our resident
naturalist will guide guests on a morning walk as he unfolds the secrets of the forest. Morning
nature walk is available daily except Mondays at 8.00 am.
The mystery of the unseen and unknown can hardly be greater than at
night in virgin tropical rainforest. No forest journey can be judged
completely without an experience by night. The forest around The
Datai is home to monkeys, hornbills, frogs, owls, cicadas, crickets and
also flyer squirrels. For rainforest by night experience, our resident
naturalist also offers evening walks every Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday at 7.00pm.
Leader of resident naturalists, Irshad Mobarak, who is a native of
Langkawi considers himself as a conservationist first. ”I pass the
message of nature in an educational and fun way. It’s great to see the
reaction people get from understanding nature,” he states.
For those who wish to be more adventurous, the resort also offers more nature activities such as the
mangrove tour – an amazing boat ride tour to the forgotten forest between land and sea, jungle
trekking – several jungle trails around the hotel are available for those that are keen on hiking and
for different fitness levels, hiking for families with small children, bird watching, biking and many
more. The Datai provides mountain bikes and non‐motorized water sports equipment such as sea
kayaks, boogie boards, windsurfing and snorkeling gear for resident guests to use also on
