It will take place in the CYAC. Parents need to check their children in and out in the front entrance to the CYAC. The program ends at 10:50. at 11am Kim Scaccia Director of Children’s Ministry “SONSHINE KIDS” WILL HAPPEN, AT 11:00 parents will sign their children in with the volunteer in the narthex of the Sanctuary before entering service. Children will be dismissed following the opening worship song and greeting. Children will be escorted to the CYAC for their time of worship. The children’s servants will escort them back to their parents in the sanctuary before worship is completed. We are looking forward to this new and exciting children’s ministry program here at First Church! FOR CHILDREN IN NURSERY THROUGH 4 YEARS OLD Begins at 11am on Sunday Morning Nursery (infant – 2) Room 5, 2 and 3 years old in Room 6 Preschool (age 4) for 4 year olds Sunday’s at 11:00 in Room 7 We want preschoolers to take a first look at who God is and understand… God made me. God loves me. Jesus wants to be my friend forever. CHILDREN’S CHOIR meets on Thursday from 5:45 to 6:45 for children 4-5 years as well as grades 1-5 . children will learn how to worship our Lord through music using games, instruments, drama, and singing. . We are so excited to share the gift of music with your child. Psalm 95:1 tells us: Come let us sing to the Lord. Let us give a joyous shout to the Rock of our salvation 2
Tony Sorrell Youth Minister Who Are You On the back of my bank card I wrote the words, ‘See Photo ID’ where my signature is supposed to go. A situation that happen to my wife many years ago has prompted me to make the added effort to prove I am who I say I am. I want my identity to be certain when my bank card is used. (Honestly it’s only successful about 15% of the time.) So the only way I can prove my identity is with my identification card or ID/Drivers License. Obtained with a ton of other identification records like birth certificate, social security card, electrical bill, water bill, and old driver’s license, I finally have received my ID. So I’m pretty sure that I am who my ID says I am. But what does the world say that I am Let’s think more about how I am defined by my message and my actions. I recently spent the weeks with some amazing teenagers at Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach, FL and we spent a lot of time talking about our identities. We read a lot about Paul and how his identity changed drastically when confronted with Christ on the road to Damascus. One, who once persecuted the Christians and pushed his zeal for Judaism, suddenly started preaching the gospel and working to advance the followers of The Way. His message changed. His actions changed. We read that his life was so implanted with the passion to spread the gospel that he concludes his life on house arrest in Rome, and he writes to the Philippians “To live is Christ, to die is gain!” What a transformation! What an amazing journey for Paul to go from hating Christ with all his might to saying that his life is only Christ and the gospel. This has been an amazing time for me to reflect on my own identity. When people look at me and my actions and when they hear me speak, do they see Christ Am I showing the same passion that Paul had for the lost and for advancing the gospel Do I clothe myself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience Do I bear with each other and forgive one another if I have a grievance against someone Do I forgive as the Lord forgave me Do I love my neighbor as myself (Colossians 3:12-14) How about you When people look at you are they convinced of your love for God and your love for people Do they see Christ in you I don’t suspect Paul would have said ‘To live is Christ’, moments after his conversion. His faith grew at the signs of God working in his life and in others. As God continued to use him and he continued to be obedient to God, his faith grew to a place where those words are true at the end of his life. To live is Christ, to die is gain. I realize that when people look at my ID that they will not see Christ. They won’t know I am a youth minister who has answered the call to His service. They won’t see my compassion, my humility, my gentleness, or patience (or sometimes lack thereof). I don’t suspect anyone would be able to ever see that on a piece of plastic. Join with me this season in letting your identity of Christ shine before men. Let them know we are Christians by our love. The Holy Spirit will help you, and you can take that to the bank. Student Ministry News. Wow! What a busy and crazy March. We did so much in just a few weeks; a camping trip, fundraiser, meetings and a Broadway musical production. But now it’s on to April. Coming up this April we are going to start things off with the Confirmation Retreat. If you are planning on being a part of this retreat and class, know that the retreat will be on the 5 th , 6 th & 7 th of April. The location has not been decided at the time that this article was due for publication, but ask Tony for details. The classes will be each Wednesday on April 10, 17, 24, and May 1 from 4:30p to 5:30p. Students graduating 5 th grade and higher are welcome to attend. We’ll have a Parent Connect Meeting and Potluck on Sunday April 7 th at 5:30pm. Parents are encouraged to come out and participate in the upcomings of the student ministry and its impact on our young people. Whether your student attends a midweek, Sunday morning, or Sunday evening meeting, all parents are welcomed to attend. Also in April we will have a Second Sunday Super Surprise on April 14 th . The activity hasn’t been planned so there isn’t much that I can tell you but we will get details out to you as soon as possible. I wanted to remind you of what is coming up this summer in regards of camp. We will be attending Warren Willis Camp on June 24- 29. Make sure you go to www.warrenwilliscamp.org to sign up online. The cost for the camp is $390.00. A deposit is required to sign up. Finally on Saturday May 4 th , students are encouraged to come and be a part of the First Church Flea Market. This event is for all students looking to earn money for camp and such. Also parents, if you want to purchase a table to sell your yard sale items or business products, contact Gale Matthews at galem@shorewesthomesnow.com. Remember that the money goes towards a great cause. Also please talk to Gale, she needs help organizing, planning and especially setting up the day of the event. So April brings a little rest but still lots to do. So we hope to see you involved in what’s going on here at The Edge, First Church’s Student Ministry.
