Bark by Popular Demand!
And it’s about time! This funny, frisky, kooky and colorful show was a hit
in 2008 highlighting the antics of a talented cast, including NWCT artist in
residence John Ellingson. And as he’ll tell you, Go, Dog. Go! is one of NWCT’s
most requested titles of all time. “Kids would stop me all the time,” says John. “In
the mall, on the street, in coff ee shops, at the zoo, at the children’s museum, and
they all asked the same thing: ‘Are you the dog from that show? When will you do
it again?’” Their parents wanted to know, too, and with so many fans, it was just
a matter of time before these crooning canines dog-paddled their way back on
to the NWCT stage. Red dogs, green dogs, big dogs, small dogs; they’re all here
with some NEW tricks, proving once again that children and adults alike fi nd
‘something new and remarkable’ in P.D. Eastman’s classic story. We’ve enjoyed the
show even more this time around, and we hope you do, too!

For Our Young Audience Members
The audience is a very important part of any live theater performance. Without the
audience, there would be no one to laugh when the show is funny, to gasp when it is
scary, or to applaud at the end.
But it is important to be a good audience member so that everyone enjoys
the show. Because this is a live performance, the actors will be right in front of
you. You should give them your respect and attention.
Here are some things you can do to make this a great experience for all:
• Stay seated and listen quietly. The house lights (the lights in the theater) dim to
signal that the show is about to start. That is your signal to settle down.
• Keep your feet on the fl oor.
• Save snacks and treats for after the show. Food and drinks are not
allowed in the theater.
• Stay in your seat until after the curtain call (at the end of the show, when the
actors bow).
• Wait until the lights come up before you leave your seat.
If you are sitting next to an adult, please remind him or her of these notices:
• TURN OFF all watch alarms, beepers and cell phones prior to the
performance. (No silent or vibrate; interferes with theater equipment.)
• If you brought an infant, be prepared to leave the theater if the child
becomes disruptive.
• Use of cameras, video and audio recording equipment in the theater is
strictly prohibited.
• Latecomers will be seated at the House Manager’s discretion.

Claire Aldridge
Teal Dog
Claire is a freshman
at Arts and
Communication
Magnet Academy
and has been acting since the age of
three. She is a Young Professional at
Oregon Children’s Theatre where she
performed Antigone Now and has been
seen on the NWCT stage in Madeline and
the Gypsies, Narnia, and Robin Hood. She
thanks her sister who is always there
and the sweetest, best, sister anyone
could ask for.
Mikenzie Ames
Hattie
A recent graduate of
Boise State University
in Theater Arts
Performance, Mikenzie
performed in School for Wives, Antigone,
and Man of La Mancha. She also
performed in Comedy of Errors (Idaho
Shakespeare Theater) and toured the
state with the Idaho Theater for Youth’s
original production of Aesop’s Fables.
Her next (and most challenging) role
will be as an English teacher abroad.

Emily Bryan
Blue Dog
A veteran of the NWCT
stage, Emily has most
recently appeared in
Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive
the Bus!, Alice in Wonderland, Hansel &
Gretel, and The Hobbit. She is currently
a junior at Vancouver School of the Arts
and Academics. Emily thanks the family
at NWCT for keeping the magic in the air

An 18 year-old
homeschooled senior
and third year intern
who previously
performed in NWCT’s mainstage
productions Annie and Pinocchio,
Connor’s ecstatic to be part of this fun
and unique musical classic! Connor has
enjoyed roles in fi ve Teens NW shows
including that of the creepy host in
2009’s Twilight Tales. Connor is psyched
for his upcoming role as “Calvin” in
OCT’s A Wrinkle in Time.

Delaplane
White & Black Dog
Sixteen years old,
homeschooled, and
a second year NWCT
intern, Madeleine is thrilled to be a
part of her second NWCT mainstage
production, after just finishing Robin
Hood. She has also enjoyed various
roles in several Teens NW shows and
acted as a member of OCT’s YP comedy
improv troupe “Impulse!” She dedicates
her performance with love to her two
favorite dog friends, Rocky and Wolfi e!

Peter has been on stage
many times over the
years at NWCT. He was
seen most recently in
Pinocchio but has also appeared in
Go, Dog. Go! (2008), The Witches, and
A Wrinkle in Time. He is in eleventh
grade at Cleveland High School and
his hobbies include dragon boats and
homework.

John started clowning
at eight years old,
mentored by Portland’s
own Rusty Nails. Despite hanging up his
clown shoes to focus on musical theater,
John’s bag of tricks stays close at hand.

(for which he received a PAMTA for
Outstanding Actor), Goodnight Moon,
Alice in Wonderland, Hansel and Gretel,

Melanie Hall
Accordion
Melanie is thrilled to be
at Northwest Children’s
Theater! Next month
she will begin her
seventh summer as an actor/musician
in Denali National Park, Alaska. In
Portland, Melanie recently appeared as
the Cheshire Cat in Alice & Wonderland:
A Rock Opera at Oregon Children’s
Theatre. Also at OCT: The True Story of
the 3 Little Pigs, Giggle Giggle Quack, and
Petite Rouge. Originally from Lincoln,
Nebraska, Melanie graduated from
Illinois Wesleyan University with a
B.F.A. in Music Theater.

This is Grover’s ninth
NWCT mainstage
performance. Previous
shows include Don’t Let
the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Narnia, Sleeping
Beauty, and Red Dog in NWCT’s last
version of Go, Dog. Go! In addition, he
has been a part of Teens NW, Kid’s
Company NW, KidsPro NW, and Interns
NW. He is a senior at Wilson High School
where he enjoys overbooking himself
with AP classes, performing with the
Wilsingers Choir, and organizing social
LAN gaming events.
Bryan Kinder
Black & White Dog
Bryan is very excited
to return to Go, Dog.
Go! after appearing as
Orange Dog in the 2008
production. He has also been seen as
Friar Tuck in Robin Hood and in the
ensemble of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the
Bus! He thanks Sarah Jane and John for
this amazing opportunity, and dedicates
this performance to Mary Rochon for
being his big sis.
Alan H. King
Bass
Alan has worked in
many Portland area
productions for over
30 years. He has been
playing the bass since third grade, and
played in many productions including:
Pump Boys and Dinettes, Smoke on
the Mountain, Closer Then Ever, Tony
and Tina’s Wedding, Go, Dog. Go! and
Petite Rouge. Most recently with NWCT
Alan performed as Geppeto in Pinocchio,
and is happy to join NWCT again for Go,
Dog. Go!

The light is
green
now!”
Portland is renowned for its
‘green approach’ to everything
from civic planning to the arts.
With coffee cups made from
recycled paper to reclaimed
timbers in renewed structures,
sustainability is a big part of the
Northwest way of life, and NWCT
is happy to support this
movement. With a mission to
educate, entertain and enrich the
lives of young audiences, NWCT’s
commitment to the future and
community is reflected in its
responsible, creative and
adaptable use of resources from
unlikely sources.
Theater is an art form that
recycles naturally. Wood is reused,
screws are rewound, paint is
remixed, costumes are rebuilt
and props are retooled to meet
the needs of each show. But this
creative recycling usually
happens ‘behind the scenes.’
With the support of the Office of
Sustainable Development and a
close partnership with the
ReBuilding Center, audiences
for Go, Dog. Go! are being shown
just how big a part theater plays in
this progressive process. Many
costume pieces were created from
repurposed t-shirts. Building
materials were generously donated
from the ‘deconstructionists’ at
the ReBuilding Center.
From lights up to lights down,
NWCT is proud to demonstrate
the possibilities for ‘green living’
in the modern world.
Chaz Mortimer
Drums
NWCT welcomes Chaz
back for his second Go,
Dog. Go! production.
A drummer since
childhood, Chaz studied at the Oberlin
Conservatory where he performed with
Adenike Sharpley’s Dance Diaspora.
With Dance Diaspora, Chaz completed
two residencies collaborating and
studying with Grupo Afrocuba in
Matanzas, Cuba. He completed his
B.A. in music at Naropa University
and moved to Portland in 2007. Chaz
teaches the recording arts in local high
schools and enjoys crafting percussion
instruments.
Stephanie Roessler
Yellow Dog
An eighth grade student
at Waluga Junior High
School, Stephanie
is a level-6 gymnast
who also takes voice, piano, and flute
lessons. She recently enjoyed her
NWCT mainstage debut as “The Kid” in
NWCT’s world premiere Robin Hood. She
has also performed in Summer Nights!
and with Kid’s Company NW. She loves
her pets, rock climbing and white water
rafting. Stephanie thanks NWCT for
the awesome opportunities and great
experiences.

Tracy Ross
Piano Conductor
Tracy attended the San
Francisco Conservatory
of Music, U.C. Berkeley
and the Manhattan School of Music in
New York where he earned a Master of
Music degree. He has worked with the
San Francisco Opera, Lamplighters
and the Western Opera Theater. Since
moving to Portland Tracy has worked
with NWCT, Oregon Ballet Theatre,
Pacific Festival Ballet, Stumptown
Stages, and Broadway Rose Theater as
well as appearing frequently in recital
as a vocal accompanist.
Sophie Shely
Orange Dog
This is Sophie’s second
N W C T p r o d u c t i o n .
She was last seen in
Madeline and the
Gypsies. Other credits include: Turandot,
Hansel and Gretel, Pagliacci, and La
Boheme (Portland Opera), Seussical
(Pentacle), Prometheus (Lakewood), and
Annie Warbucks (Tin Pan Alley). She
gets her inspiration for this role from
her Dog, Willow, who played Sandy in
NWCT’s Annie. Sophie thanks Sarah
Jane, John, and her family.

Recent NWCT directing credits include

and Gretel, as well as Annie, Narnia
(2010, 2004), Goodnight Moon, The

Seussical!, Crazy for You, The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow and more. Other Portland
work includes directing The Lesser
Magoo for defunkt theatre (for which
she received a Drammy) and The Secret
Garden for Staged!
John Ellingson
Co-Director/Choreographer
A resident artist with NWCT, John’s
earliest training was under Portland
legend Rusty Nails with whom he
developed skills in clowning, stilt work,
juggling, skating and mime. A gifted
physical actor, John has devised work
for NWCT Mainstage and Outreach
Departments as both a solo artist and as
part of a collaborative team. In recent
seasons he has originated several roles
at NWCT, including Catjack the Thief
(Pinocchio, for which he received a 2010
PAMTA), Pigeon (Don’t Let the Pigeon
Drive the Bus!), and The Mad Hatter
(Alice in Wonderland).
Rodolfo Ortega
Music Director, Sound Design
Rody has created compositions and
sound design for numerous NWCT
productions including the world
premieres of Pinocchio (multiple PAMTA
winner) and Robin Hood, as well as
Narnia, The Hobbit, Swiss Family Robinson
(2007 Drammy), and Frankenstein (2006
Drammy). In addition to receiving
multiple Drammy Awards for individual
productions, he received a Drammy in
Sound Design and Composition for a
Season of Outstanding Work (200-01).
Creative Team
Patrick Larsen
Set Design
Patrick designed NWCT’s 2009 set for
Go, Dog. Go!, as well as Narnia (2004),
Crazy for You, and The Outsiders. He is a
production designer for broadcast and
corporate events, and has designed
productions for NBC Universal, Bravo,
Sci Fi, Intel, AmEx, and IBM. He also
designs for companies including La
Jolla Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre,
Skylight Opera, and Utah Festival Opera.
Patrick received is M.F.A. from the
University of California, San Diego, and
currently lives and works in New York.
Last fall we welcomed
Carole Dieulangard,
a college intern from
France. She worked
tirelessly for months
in fundraising, assisting
mainstage productions and
teaching classes. With smarts, talent
and a charming accent (ask her to
say “tax-deductible”) she became an
invaluable part of our team. We know
she must return home, but words
cannot express how very much we

Shana Targosz
Costume Design
Shana joined the NWCT team this
season and has designed Alexander …
Bad Day and Annie. A graduate of U.C.
Irvine’s School of Drama with a M.F.A.
in Costume Design, Shana has designed
for several prominent regional theatres
and fi lm/television studios including:
The Laguna Playhouse (Life & Adventures
of Santa Claus), Actor’s Theatre of
Phoenix (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), MGM
Pictures (Legally Blondes), and Disney
Studios (Suite Life of Zack & Cody).

Jeff Forbes
Light Design
Portland-based multiple Willie and
Drammy award winner, Jeff has designed
lights for numerous NWCT shows,
including Annie, Narnia, The Wizard
of Oz and Hansel and Gretel. He tours
nationally and internationally with
Imago Theatre, the Deborah Hay Dance
Company and Antony and the Johnsons.
Jeff is currently White Bird Dance’s
Technical Manager, and Technical
Director for PICA’s TBA Festival. Jeff is
co-founder and Technical Director of
Performance Works NorthWest.
kollodi
Properties Design
kollodi is thrilled to be designing props
for the 2010-2011 season at NWCT. Last
season she designed PAMTA-award
winning props for NWCT’s Pinocchio.
kollodi received Drammy Awards for Set
Design (2003) and Production Design
(2005). She also works locally for Artists’
Repertory Theatre, Oregon Children’s
Theatre, and CoHo Productions. Her
work has been seen nationally and
internationally as far as London,
Edinburgh, Toronto and Sydney.
Suzanne Kenney
Aerial Choreography
Suzanne is the founder, artistic and
executive director of Pendulum Aerial
Arts, and NWCT is thrilled to welcome
her for Go, Dog. Go! Internationally
recognized as a pioneer in the aerial
arts movement in the United States, she
founded Aero-Betty in 1996 and her work
has helped pave the way to Portland’s
vibrant circus arts scene. Suzanne has
choreographed and produced 16 public
performances and introduced hundreds
of budding artists to aerial arts through
Pendulum’s education program.
