EXHAUST INSULATING WRAP<br />

The Original Exhaust Insulating Wrap was<br />

developed back in 1986 by Thermo-Tec.<br />

Exhaust Insulating Wrap is an innovative way<br />

to create more horsepower as wrapping<br />

headers with Exhaust Insulating Wrap<br />

maintains hotter exhaust gases that exit <strong>the</strong><br />

system faster through decreased density.<br />

This produces increased exhaust scavenging,<br />

as well as lower intake temperatures. Exhaust<br />

Insulating Wrap withstands continuous heat<br />

up to 2000°F; it contains no asbestos.<br />

Thermo-tec’s exhaust wrap will not overinsulate<br />

a system when properly installed, due<br />

to a proprietary coating, Thermal-Conduction-<br />

Technology (T-C-T), developed by Thermo-Tec,<br />

that conducts heat across <strong>the</strong> wrap’s surface.<br />

This unique coating controls heat built-up and<br />

dissipation. Exhaust Insulating Wrap is sold in<br />

50 feet (over 15 meter) rolls, 2" wide. Exhaust<br />

Wrap has a low profile 1/16"thickness. In<br />

order to make installation easier and neater,<br />

you can use Snap-Strap, stainless steel<br />

strapping material that has a low profile to fit<br />

in tight spots. It can easily be cut to <strong>the</strong><br />

required length and is secured with easy to<br />

THERMOTEC BATTERY WRAP HEAT BARRIER<br />

This battery wrap gives you <strong>the</strong> ultimate<br />

protection against leaking battery fluid. The<br />

black felt material is treated with a proprietary<br />

material that neutralizes acid. It is also a big<br />

help for you custom builders wanting to<br />

protect delicate parts of <strong>the</strong> bike against<br />

excessive heat. The highly reflective surface<br />

of this wrap is capable of withstanding radiant<br />

temperatures in excess of 1050°C. V-Rod<br />

owners especially want to take a good look<br />

at this, since <strong>the</strong>ir battery is flat mounted and<br />

<strong>the</strong>refore more vulnerable. The kit consists<br />

MSD PULSE IGNITION<br />

Evolution and Shovelhead engines will all<br />

benefit from <strong>the</strong> power of <strong>the</strong> MSD Pulse<br />

Ignition. The multiple sparking capacitive<br />

discharge design of this ignition ensures<br />

combustion of <strong>the</strong> fuel mixture in each<br />

cylinder, improving <strong>the</strong> power and output of<br />

<strong>the</strong> engine. Below 3,000 rpm, <strong>the</strong> MSD fires<br />

each spark plug multiple times during <strong>the</strong><br />

combustion stroke. This series of full power<br />

sparks burns in <strong>the</strong> cylinder for up to 45° of<br />

crankshaft rotation. These sparks result in<br />

quick starts, smooth idle and lightning quick<br />

throttle response. MSD’s Pulse Ignition<br />

features a 2-step rev-limiter, a built-in step<br />

retard function for nitrous and o<strong>the</strong>r racing<br />

applications and an adjustable electronic<br />

advance system. The 2-step rev-limiters are<br />

adjustable with built-in dipswitches and can<br />

easily be adjusted between 5,500 and 9,250<br />

rpm (in 250 rpm steps). It is a complete bolton<br />

These electronic pick-ups are specially tuned<br />

to cope with high temperature and vibrations<br />

on V-Twin motorcycles. Through electronic<br />

circuitry excessive retard is eliminated, which<br />

gives <strong>the</strong> MSD pick-up an advantage to a lot<br />

of common aftermarket triggers. In<br />

combination with High quality samarium<br />

cobalt magnets in excess of 10,000 rpm can<br />

Dynatek has a long experience in building<br />

electronic ignition systems. Back in <strong>the</strong> mid<br />

seventies, when everybody was still thinking<br />

points and condensers, <strong>the</strong>y were building<br />

reliable electronic ignition systems for Harley-<br />

Davidson motorcycles. Years ago <strong>the</strong>y<br />

started to develop a self contained racing<br />

ignition system to fill <strong>the</strong> needs of <strong>the</strong><br />

professional Drag-Racers. They have redeveloped<br />

this racing ignition over and over<br />

again until <strong>the</strong>y came up with <strong>the</strong> Dyna 4000<br />

Superpro. The Dyna 4000 Superpro is a High-<br />

Energy Ignition that is designed to meet <strong>the</strong><br />

demands of <strong>the</strong> professional Drag-Racer. It<br />

has <strong>the</strong> advantage of <strong>the</strong> long spark duration<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Inductive ignition system as well as <strong>the</strong><br />

higher rev capabilities of <strong>the</strong> capacitive<br />

systems. Special trigger plates that work with<br />

dual or single systems are available. The Dyna<br />

4000 has lots more features for gas burning<br />

Drag-Race Harley’s as well as for Nitro<br />

MSD’S 3-INTO-1 LAUNCH BOX<br />

MSD’s Launch Box allows you to change <strong>the</strong><br />

value of <strong>the</strong> launch rev limiter from your<br />

handlebar when you are already at <strong>the</strong><br />

starting line with <strong>the</strong> twist of a couple of dials.<br />

The Launch Box also has a built-in shift light<br />

that will turn on bright to alert you to shift and<br />

on top of all that you can adjust your two-step<br />

control from <strong>the</strong> Launch/Rev Limiter/Shift<br />

Light!<br />

sparks. For this kind of power two ignition<br />

control units are required; one for <strong>the</strong> CD<br />

circuits and programming controls and<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> inductive circuitry. Toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>the</strong>se controls send a unique spark to two<br />

hybrid coils. These coils have to be used in<br />

combination with <strong>the</strong> Nitro ignition to optimize<br />

<strong>the</strong> ignition, fuel efficiency and motor<br />

management. The Nitro system also provides<br />

racers with limitless tuning possibilities<br />

DYNA RPM LIMITER<br />

Dyna’s RPM adjustable from 6.000 to over<br />

12.000 RPM by easy to operate dip switches.<br />

This new version of <strong>the</strong> RPM limiter has an<br />

a d d i t i o n a l o u t p u t s t a g e t h a t w o r k s<br />

independently of <strong>the</strong> RPM limiter. The output<br />

stage can even function when <strong>the</strong> RPM limiter<br />

has no power. It works on a simple 12 Volt<br />

signal and can, for example, be used for<br />

clutchless upshifts. The Dyna RPM limiter is<br />

designed to prevent bent valves and blown<br />

engines due to overrevving or missed shifts.<br />

The limiter will work with any electronic<br />

inductive type ignition and can use up to 4<br />

Dyna blue, low impedance coils. It does not<br />

effect engine performance until <strong>the</strong> pre-set<br />

maximum revs are reached. At that moment<br />

<strong>the</strong> spark is killed until <strong>the</strong> RPM’s drop to<br />

u n d e r m a x i m u m , t h e s p a r k i s t h e n<br />

reactivated. Note: Can not be used with CDI<br />

ignition.<br />

DYNA TWO STAGE REV-LIMITER<br />

The two stage rev-limiter is designed to<br />

provide accurate launching RPM’s so that <strong>the</strong><br />

rider can concentrate on <strong>the</strong> start and not on<br />

RPM’s. The limiter uses a unique control<br />

function which makes an instant decision at<br />

<strong>the</strong> time of firing. A 12 position switch that is<br />

used to set launching RPM’s can be mounted<br />

easily. The high RPM limits are selected by a<br />

separate knob with an accuracy of 25 RPM.<br />

DYNA SHIFT MINDER SYSTEM<br />

The Dyna shift minder system consists of two<br />

elements, <strong>the</strong> electronic module and <strong>the</strong><br />

indicator light. The compact indicator light<br />

has an amber collecting lens that can be<br />

easily seen and uses a 6 Watt bulb held in<br />

place with a coil wounded spring in a bayonet<br />

style socket. The indicator measures 1 1/2"<br />

diameter by 3 1/2" long. The electronic<br />

module has a 6 station switch that provides<br />

32 possible settings in 125 RPM increments.<br />

The operation is within .01 seconds of<br />

reaching <strong>the</strong> selected RPM with no on/off<br />

POWER CORE IGNITION COIL AMPLIFIER<br />

The Power Core ignition coil amplifier<br />

increases <strong>the</strong> coil’s output performance of<br />

any inductive ignition system by up to 50%.<br />

Simply connect <strong>the</strong> Power Core to <strong>the</strong> primary<br />

MSD PLUG WIRE KIT<br />

Spark plug wires have two main functions;<br />

transfer <strong>the</strong> spark and suppress electro<br />

magnetic interference created by <strong>the</strong> spark.<br />

The special copper conductor on MSD wires<br />

keeps wire resistance under 50 Ohm/Foot.<br />

Even with this low resistance, with its 8.5mm<br />

<strong>the</strong> wire retains its EMI reducing capability.<br />

The copper conductor is tightly wrapped<br />

around a ferro-magnetic core to fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

N.O.S. KITS, POWER IN A BOTTLE BY<br />

EDELBROCK<br />

In <strong>the</strong> early days of <strong>the</strong> airplanes, <strong>the</strong> Fighterplanes<br />

needed more power for faster and<br />

higher climbing in times of trouble. These<br />

were <strong>the</strong> days <strong>the</strong> constructors discovered<br />

that using Nitrous in combination with extra<br />

fuel gave <strong>the</strong> planes <strong>the</strong> extra power needed.<br />

When Fighter-planes changed to Jet powered<br />

engines, Nitrous got slightly forgotten and it<br />

was not before <strong>the</strong> sixties Nitrous was used<br />

again in race engines and hot rod cars. It<br />

works as follows. For <strong>the</strong> engine Nitrous<br />

Oxide is a more pure form of Oxide (oxygen).<br />

Since we are only interested in <strong>the</strong> Oxide<br />

inside <strong>the</strong> air, this is an easy way of getting<br />

more power. This extra power is gained by<br />

injecting <strong>the</strong> Nitrous with extra fuel in <strong>the</strong><br />

manifold. The oxygen in <strong>the</strong> Nitrous Oxide<br />

gets "<strong>the</strong> extra fuel" burned, thus getting more<br />

h o r s e p o w e r. N o w a d a y s s p e c i a l i z e d<br />

companies build tailor made Nitrous Oxide<br />

Systems (N.O.S.) for Harley- Davidson<br />

motorcycles. Most N.O.S. kits require<br />

fabrication for mounting of all <strong>the</strong> hardware<br />

required running <strong>the</strong> system. These tailor<br />

made kits are special designed to solve those<br />

problems. The result is a clean looking, easy<br />

to mount, control unit which houses <strong>the</strong><br />

electronic control module, fuel pump, filter<br />

and solenoids. This unit is mount to <strong>the</strong> left<br />

side of <strong>the</strong> engine using <strong>the</strong> top engine mount.<br />

The nitrous and <strong>the</strong> required additional fuel<br />

are fed into <strong>the</strong> engine through <strong>the</strong> fogger<br />

plate, which mounts between carburetor and<br />

manifold. And <strong>the</strong>n we have <strong>the</strong> bottle itself,<br />

which is mounted on <strong>the</strong> frame with special<br />

brackets. The electronic control module<br />

comes preprogrammed to prevent accidental<br />

activation at too low RPM, which can damage<br />

<strong>the</strong> engine. It is set so that it cannot be<br />

activated below 4000 RPM. Once above this<br />

level, when activated, <strong>the</strong> module controls <strong>the</strong><br />

flow of fuel and nitrous to <strong>the</strong> fogger plate,<br />

staggering <strong>the</strong> delivery so that <strong>the</strong> fuel and<br />

nitrous are delivered at <strong>the</strong> spray bar<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r, reducing <strong>the</strong> change of detonation.<br />

Independent Dyno test show <strong>the</strong>se N.O.S. kits<br />

will increase <strong>the</strong> power with as much as 35<br />

Horsepower !!!! If you want so "Smoke"<br />

everyone at <strong>the</strong> traffic lights and just show<br />

<strong>the</strong>m your taillight, this is <strong>the</strong> way to go.<br />

S&S 145 CI ENGINES<br />

In 2003, to celebrate 45 years in business,<br />

S&S Cycle has built <strong>the</strong> ultimate High<br />

Performance V-Twin engine. This engine is a<br />

tribute to <strong>the</strong> original founders, George and<br />

Marjorie Smith. In addition, it commemorates<br />

Harley- Davidson’s 100th Anniversary. It is<br />

also intended to honor all passionate builders,<br />

riders, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts who<br />

have helped grow <strong>the</strong> 100-year evolution of<br />

<strong>the</strong> V-Twin motorcycle market. The limited<br />

production 145 Cubic Inch motor, which is<br />

capable of producing over 185 hp and 180<br />

ft. lb. of torque, is <strong>the</strong> product of 45 years of<br />

experience. It features <strong>the</strong> latest in<br />

technology, from <strong>the</strong> special "Big Fin" design<br />

4 3/8" cylinders and high flow B2 CNC oval<br />

port heads, to <strong>the</strong> S&S Variable Fuel Injection<br />

(VFI) system with dual 2.062" throttle body,<br />

manifolds and special billet velocity stacks.<br />

For <strong>the</strong> ones that like a Big carburetor over<br />

injection we have <strong>the</strong> 145 CI engine with a<br />

carburetor available. Each engine is fully<br />

polished and built around S&S Special<br />

Application crankcases. The bottom end uses<br />

<strong>the</strong> same hardened forged steel flywheels and<br />

1 1/2" press-in crank pin as <strong>the</strong> Super<br />

Sidewinder Plus engines. Actual displacement<br />

is 144.7 Cubic Inches (2.371 CC!), with an<br />

11:1 compression ratio. Specific parts<br />

include <strong>the</strong> cylinders, flattop pistons, 8 1/4"<br />

billet steel connecting rods, and billet gear<br />

cover and velocity stacks. Cylinder heads are<br />

prototypes of <strong>the</strong> B2-Race casting for Twin<br />

Cams and fully CNC-ported. They utilize 2.2"<br />

intake valves and 1.8" exhaust valves, which<br />

are activated by "Old Reliable"- <strong>the</strong> S&S 631<br />

camshaft. The 145 CI is available with<br />

carburetor as well as Injection. Both models<br />

feature a HVHP oil pump that keeps <strong>the</strong><br />

moving parts moving. Fuel Injection equipped<br />

engines come with <strong>the</strong> S&S VFI electronic fuel<br />

injection and include a fuel pump with<br />

incorporated pressure release valve.<br />

Engine has 2 3/8" diameter exhaust<br />

ports, exhaust pipes must be custom<br />

made. These S&S 145 engines are<br />

very limited in availability.<br />

Note: The 145 CI engine is 1 1/4"<br />

DELKRON HIGH DECK RACE CRANKCASE<br />

ASSEMBLY<br />

a overall wall thickness of 1/2" for superior<br />

when you want to build a real "Big-Twin Muscle<br />

Motor". The cam-chest & lifter-block pads<br />

pinion shaft bearing set. This type of bearing<br />

alternator stator, oil passages for hydraulic<br />

THE DRY SUMP PLATE FOR DELKRON<br />

CRANKCASES<br />

For those of you who want <strong>the</strong> option to suck<br />

<strong>the</strong> oil out-of <strong>the</strong> lower end of <strong>the</strong> sump, this<br />

fixture will allow you to get that oil before it<br />

is thrown around <strong>the</strong> engine a couple of more<br />

times, which makes for less drag on <strong>the</strong><br />

flywheels. It is made of T356-T6 aluminum<br />

and bolts right up to all Delkron crankcases.<br />

Comes complete with gasket, mounting<br />

screws and 3/8" hose fitting. Replacement<br />

gasket fits all Delkron sump plates including<br />

dry sump plate.<br />

DELKRON’S BILLET ALUMINUM 4 CAM BIG-<br />

TWIN CRANKCASE<br />

Strong, Stronger, Strongest, Here it is, "<strong>the</strong><br />

Crankcase Of The Third Millennium". It utilizes<br />

<strong>the</strong> superior valve train geometry of a<br />

Sportster but has <strong>the</strong> strength of <strong>the</strong> Big- Twin<br />

flywheel assembly. The cam location is <strong>the</strong><br />

same as stock Evolution Sportster cases<br />

from 1986 thru 1990, so all available cams<br />

for this engine type will bolt right into this<br />

case. The crankcase and cam cover are<br />

made from 6061- T6 aluminum, which insures<br />

uniform strength and hardness throughout. A<br />

minimum overall case thickness of .400", a<br />

left side case thickness of more than 1.250"<br />

and almost .900" of case between <strong>the</strong><br />

flywheel cavity and <strong>the</strong> cam location surface<br />

provides <strong>the</strong> most rigid flywheel support of<br />

any crankcase available today. The drive side<br />

of <strong>the</strong> case is machined to accept late model<br />

Timken bearings for <strong>the</strong> 1 1/4" sprocket<br />

shaft, while <strong>the</strong> pinion side is machined to<br />

accept a single Timken and ball bearing<br />

configuration in combination with an aircraft<br />

quality high contact ball bearing for maximum<br />

flywheel support. The oiling system is a dry<br />

pump system with <strong>the</strong> scraper at <strong>the</strong> bottom<br />

of <strong>the</strong> case and uses <strong>the</strong> more efficient late<br />

model Sportster rotary type oil pump or any<br />

type Pro-Flow Sportster pump for better<br />

pressure and scavenge ability. We stock <strong>the</strong><br />

street version of <strong>the</strong>se bullet-proof<br />

crankcases, which accept our 4 5/8"<br />

Flywheels and Spu<strong>the</strong> cylinders. All o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

combinations are possible, but are made to<br />

order only. They can be ordered with cylinder<br />

bore up to 4 1/2" O.D., cylinder deck height<br />

up to 1" over stock and flywheel diameter<br />

clearance up to 8 1/4", plus many o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

V-THUNDER VALVE SPRING SETS, VALVE<br />

V-Thunder valve spring kits are made from <strong>the</strong><br />

finest materials available and manufactured to<br />

close tolerances. The complete spring kits<br />

contain springs, retainers, valve keepers and<br />

spring seats and fit 1984-1999 Big-Twins and<br />

1999 to present Twin-Cam models. Spring<br />

kits are interference wound double springs<br />

with a damper. The damper keeps <strong>the</strong> inner<br />

and outer spring coils from locking toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

spring. Valve keys, seats and retainers are<br />

JIMS TITANIUM WORKSAVER PUSHRODS<br />

These pushrods are <strong>the</strong> latest in valvetrain<br />

technology. Machined out of a special<br />

titanium alloy that is normally used in <strong>the</strong><br />

medical field. This alloy results in a pushrod<br />

that is as strong as Chrome-moly, but as light<br />

as Jims Pro- Lite aluminum pushrods,<br />

weighing in at only 67 grams. These pushrods<br />

have been developed due to <strong>the</strong> large<br />

demand for reducing reciprocating weight in<br />

<strong>the</strong> V-Twin valvetrain. To install <strong>the</strong>se pushrods<br />

<strong>the</strong>re is no disassembly of top end or removal<br />

of cam required. Pushrods adjusters have 24<br />

Precision Machining Black Diamond one-piece<br />

valves are made from superb quality stainless<br />

steel and machined to a profile that provide<br />

excellent flow characteristics. These<br />

lightweight valves are <strong>the</strong>n impregnated by a<br />

very special process .002" deep and a<br />

surface build up, to improve wear properties<br />

and reduce friction. This process provides<br />

resistance to corrosion and wear superior to<br />

that developed by hard chromium and electroless<br />

nickel plating. Most valves are available<br />

For <strong>the</strong> engine tuners that want ultimate<br />

performance from <strong>the</strong>ir ported and flown<br />

heads, Precision Machining designed special<br />

shaped valves with oversized heads and extra<br />

long stems. These high performance valves<br />

are available in various materials. Exhaust<br />

valves have <strong>the</strong> patented 44 degree tulip<br />

CONNECTING ROD SETS<br />

Connecting rods at <strong>the</strong>ir finest. The Jims<br />

connecting is machined from a solid certified<br />

aerospace-quality 4340 moly steel. Each rod<br />

is heat treated, magnafluxed, shot peened<br />

and completely inspected with a hardness<br />

test for each rod. Rod race bores and wrist<br />

pin bushing bores are within .0003" of each<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r at a 32 bore finish for <strong>the</strong> best possible<br />

bushing and race adhesion. The wrist pin<br />

bushing oiling hole has been optimized for<br />

better lubrication of wrist pins, and an<br />

increase in <strong>the</strong> strength. Jims chose H-beam<br />

for stability and strength for both drag racing<br />

and any street application over <strong>the</strong> standard<br />

I beam rods. Each rod set has Jims rod races<br />

and wrist pin bushings installed and are fit to<br />

factory specifications. These H-beam rods<br />

are available in 7.690", 7.960" and 8.250"<br />

TOTAL SEAL PISTON RINGS<br />

Total Seal is <strong>the</strong> leading company in <strong>the</strong><br />

development of innovative ideas in piston<br />

rings, and has done a great deal of testing in<br />

an attempt to solve <strong>the</strong> complexities of<br />

sealing a cylinder under all circumstances,<br />

like high RPM s, Big Bore sizes, high<br />

temperature and o<strong>the</strong>r severe conditions.<br />

TS1 sets are <strong>the</strong> highest performance rings<br />

on <strong>the</strong> market. They have a Moly Max plasma<br />

ductile iron top ring. This ring will hold up to<br />

extreme heat and detonation and is used in<br />

nitro, blown and nitrous applications. Total<br />

Seal highly recommends this ring for high<br />

performance street applications, where <strong>the</strong><br />

compression ratio has been raised. The<br />

second ring is <strong>the</strong> Gap-less design patented<br />

by Total Seal. The Total Seal Gap-less design<br />

eliminates <strong>the</strong> end gap problem and keeps<br />

<strong>the</strong> gap blocked as ring and cylinder wall wear<br />

occurs. It consists of two pieces, a ring and<br />

a rail and is so constructed that <strong>the</strong> blow-by<br />

A.R.P. HIGH TENSILE STRENGTH<br />

BASE STUDS<br />

High Performance and Race engines,<br />

especially nitro burning engines, need more<br />

than just a stud to hold <strong>the</strong> cylinders down in<br />

case of a miss-fire or total ignition failure. Too<br />

many times cylinders have come of <strong>the</strong><br />

crankcase destroying expensive parts and in<br />

some occasions even worse, due to <strong>the</strong><br />

braking of "cheap quality" base studs. No<br />

longer, we had A.R.P. (Automotive <strong>Racing</strong><br />

Products) make <strong>the</strong> strongest stud on <strong>the</strong><br />

market. We selected two qualities of high<br />

tensile strength steel to manufacture <strong>the</strong>se<br />

base studs from. One quality has a tensile<br />

strength of 190.000 PSI (130 kg/mm2) <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r has <strong>the</strong> ultimate strength of 220.000<br />

PRO-FLOW MESS FILTER FOR SPORTSTER<br />

TYPE OIL PUMPS<br />

T h e P ro - F l o w p e r f o r m a n c e p u m p<br />

incorporates a unique filter oil level control<br />

system to regulate <strong>the</strong> minimum oil level in<br />

<strong>the</strong> camshaft gear case. It is located on <strong>the</strong><br />

upright tower and sits in <strong>the</strong> gear case when<br />

<strong>the</strong> pump is installed. These mess filters fit<br />

over <strong>the</strong> Pro-Flow oil pump suction area and<br />

regulate <strong>the</strong> oil level in <strong>the</strong> gear case. The<br />

filter only regulates <strong>the</strong> level in <strong>the</strong> gear case<br />

and does not effect <strong>the</strong> level in <strong>the</strong> engine<br />

sump. Filters are available in street, race or<br />

blank. You can drill <strong>the</strong> blank version to your<br />

own specifications. There is also a racer’s set<br />

available that contains all three versions. We<br />

highly recommend <strong>the</strong> use of <strong>the</strong> mess filter<br />

to protect <strong>the</strong> oil pump from debris in <strong>the</strong><br />

PROFLOW OIL PUMP FOR SPORTSTERS<br />

After years of searching for ways to improve<br />

<strong>the</strong> oil system in a high performance<br />

Sportster engine, ProFlow has developed this<br />

3-stage oil pump as a bolt-on for mild street<br />

to high performance applications. Oil<br />

pressure and oil volume are no problem in <strong>the</strong><br />

modern Sportster and Buell engine due to <strong>the</strong><br />

gerotor design feed gears used since 1977.<br />

Where <strong>the</strong> problem lies is <strong>the</strong> stock pump’s<br />

ratio between <strong>the</strong> feed versus <strong>the</strong> return and<br />

its inadequate ability to return <strong>the</strong> oil to <strong>the</strong><br />

tank after it has performed its lubricating<br />

duties. Extensive testing of <strong>the</strong> stock system<br />

it was found, that at RPM’s over 5000, <strong>the</strong><br />

feed side of <strong>the</strong> pump is delivering more oil<br />

to <strong>the</strong> engine than <strong>the</strong> scavenge is capable<br />

of returning thus filling <strong>the</strong> crankcase with an<br />

unwanted excess of oil. In any engine where<br />

high RPM’s are <strong>the</strong> norm, engine wet sumping<br />

occurs, robbing your engine of horsepower<br />

through additional drag on <strong>the</strong> flywheels and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r moving parts. Several designs were<br />

constructed and tested, and from this testing<br />

<strong>the</strong>y developed <strong>the</strong> ProFlow pump. Fully CNC<br />

machined from 6061-T651 billet aluminum,<br />

<strong>the</strong> ProFlow uses a similar same style gerotor<br />

feed as <strong>the</strong> OEM pump, but has large spurtype<br />

scavenge gears and improved port<br />

capacity that returns more oil than <strong>the</strong><br />

gerotors can feed, even well past maximum<br />

RPM. The payoff is a "dryer" engine sump<br />

which produces more power by controlling<br />

internal losses. The ProFlow’s compact<br />

design fits in <strong>the</strong> frame with no modifications,<br />

and its modular construction is completely<br />

sealed by o-rings for a tight, leak-free seal.<br />

PRO-FLOW OIL PUMP FOR BIG-TWIN MODELS<br />

After nearly two years of development <strong>the</strong><br />

Pro-Flow Big-Twin oil pump is ready for high<br />

performance service. Pro-Flow found that <strong>the</strong><br />

stock oil pump provides an inadequate supply<br />

of overheated oil, especially in a performance<br />

application. This is because both stock and<br />

aftermarket designs split <strong>the</strong> feed into two<br />

sections being <strong>the</strong> tappets & top end, and <strong>the</strong><br />

bottom end. A certain RPM level must be<br />

reached before <strong>the</strong> regulating valve opens<br />

allowing oil to be fed to <strong>the</strong> crankshaft. This<br />

may increase <strong>the</strong> risk of starving <strong>the</strong> pistons<br />

of that all-important cooling lubrication. Low<br />

RPM oil supply is poor and <strong>the</strong> overall volume<br />

of oil being run through <strong>the</strong> engine is marginal,<br />

at best. This was allowed to happen for years<br />

because <strong>the</strong> OEM Harley roller bearing engine<br />

design is very forgiving in a stock form, but<br />

add increased pressure due to high<br />

compression, big bore and/or stroke, along<br />

with tall gearing and you have got <strong>the</strong> recipe<br />

for piston galling and reliability problems. Pro-<br />

Flow designed an oil pump based on <strong>the</strong><br />

proven design in <strong>the</strong> Sportster version of <strong>the</strong><br />

Pro-Flow pump, <strong>the</strong> Big-Twin pump shares <strong>the</strong><br />

gerotor gear feed for constant supply, and<br />

spur gear return for its ability to efficiently<br />

pump air as well as oil. To meet <strong>the</strong> Big-Twin<br />

engine’s need, several gear sizes were<br />

designed and tested with <strong>the</strong> objective of<br />

getting <strong>the</strong> oil in and out of <strong>the</strong> engine at an<br />

optimum rate. The next step was to control<br />

what it lubricated.<br />

An adjustable valve body was designed using<br />

easily removable jets to control <strong>the</strong> oil to <strong>the</strong><br />

top end and crankshaft independently,<br />

allowing <strong>the</strong> oil supply from <strong>the</strong> Pro- Flow<br />

pump to be constant to both at all RPM’s.<br />

Once maximum oil pressure is achieved, a<br />

pressure relief passage opens and directs<br />

excess oil back to <strong>the</strong> oil tank, unlike <strong>the</strong><br />

stock system which continuously heats and<br />

recirculates <strong>the</strong> same oil within <strong>the</strong> pump. The<br />

end result is fantastic. The Pro-Flow Big-Twin<br />

pump feeds twice <strong>the</strong> amount of oil into <strong>the</strong><br />

engine and returns three times as much as<br />

<strong>the</strong> stock pump, at stock pump drive ratio. It<br />

is fully adjustable for pressure and flow-rate,<br />

accepts stock oil lines, and requires no<br />

machine work to install. Beautifully CNC<br />

machined from billet aluminum, its clean,<br />

functional appearance and satin finish will<br />

enhance <strong>the</strong> looks of any Big-Twin engine as<br />

well as improve its performance and<br />

reliability. Special slotted mounting hole<br />

allows installation on all Evolution Big-Twin<br />

ALUMINUM STEERING DAMPERS BY HYPERPRO<br />

More and more Harley riders like to improve<br />

<strong>the</strong> performance of <strong>the</strong>ir motorcycle and ride<br />

<strong>the</strong>m at higher speeds. But Harley-Davidson’s<br />

are not build for high speed use. They want<br />

to break out in long, fast corners and start<br />

"Tail Snaking" when driving at high speed.<br />

Usually this is caused by instability of <strong>the</strong><br />

steering. The use of <strong>the</strong> Hyperpro steering<br />

damper will drastically improve <strong>the</strong> stability<br />

S&S CAST PRO STOCK ENGINES<br />

Several years ago S&S began offering <strong>the</strong><br />

parts to build 160” 45° V-twin Pro Stock<br />

engines. Four years ago, S&S introduced a<br />

new style Pro Stock engine with a 60° cylinder<br />

angle. At that time S&S only offered <strong>the</strong><br />

parts required to build <strong>the</strong> engine.<br />

S&S now offers both <strong>the</strong> 45° and 60° 160”<br />

Pro Stock engines complete and assembled!<br />

This is a service that S&S has never offered<br />

on race engines before. The reason <strong>the</strong>y are<br />

offering it now is that as <strong>the</strong> technology<br />

involved in <strong>the</strong>se engines continues to<br />

become more and more complicated, proper<br />

assembly becomes more and more important<br />

to <strong>the</strong> durability of <strong>the</strong> engine, and to <strong>the</strong><br />

full development of power. Unassembled versions<br />

and replacement parts are available as<br />

well, but we highly recommend that <strong>the</strong>se<br />

engines be purchased assembled.<br />

Both <strong>the</strong> 45° and 60° Pro Stock engines are<br />

a modified four cam design. The bottom ends<br />

are built with S&S Pro Stock style cast<br />

crankcases and a “pork chop” style S&S Pro<br />

Stock pressed toge<strong>the</strong>r flywheel assembly.<br />

The 45° engines typically used are ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

8.000” or 8.500” S&S billet aluminum connecting<br />

rods. The 60° engines by virtue of<br />

<strong>the</strong> wider cylinder angle can use a shorter<br />

7.500” S&S billet aluminum connecting rod.<br />

The top ends of <strong>the</strong> Pro Stock engines consist<br />

of S&S finless steel cylinders, S&S<br />

4.800” bore pistons, and S&S cast aluminum<br />

Pro Stock cylinder heads. The valve train for<br />

both engines utilizes <strong>the</strong> S&S adjustable-lobe<br />

cams, chrome-moly steel pushrods, 1.725:1<br />

ratio forged rocker arms, polished billet rocker<br />

covers, and a billet gearcover. Crankcases<br />

and gearcovers are available with or without<br />

<strong>the</strong> oil filter mounting location. S&S Pro Stock<br />

engines typically use a pair of S&S Super D<br />

carburetors.<br />

45° or 60° Which Engine Is Right For<br />

Your Application<br />

The S&S 45° Pro Stock engine is available<br />

primarily for use in existing chassis that are<br />

designed for an engine with 45° cylinder<br />

angle. If you intend to build a new frame, we<br />

recommend that you purchase an engine with<br />

a 60° cylinder angle.<br />

The S&S 60° Pro Stock engine offers <strong>the</strong>se<br />

distinct advantages over <strong>the</strong> 45° engine.<br />

60° cylinder angle results in a shorter, lighter<br />

engine with less vibration.<br />

Even with shorter connecting rods, piston<br />

skirts do not need to be clearanced as heavily<br />

to avoid contact at <strong>the</strong> bottom of <strong>the</strong><br />

stroke. Longer piston skirts provide more<br />

thrust surface and improve piston stability in<br />

<strong>the</strong> cylinder for longer piston life and<br />

improved ring seal. Shorter connecting rods<br />

allow for shorter cylinder length and a more<br />

compact engine package.<br />

Engine can be mounted far<strong>the</strong>r forward in <strong>the</strong><br />

frame, improving weight distribution and traction<br />

on launch.<br />

RACEPAK V300SD DATALOGGERS<br />

The affordable V300SD series data recorder<br />

is <strong>the</strong> newest data recorder from Racepak. In<br />

base configuration, <strong>the</strong> V300 monitors six<br />

parameters, but it can be expanded to monitor<br />

up to 67 channels of data to meet <strong>the</strong><br />

needs of most users. The V300SD can sample<br />

data as quickly as 1000 times per second.<br />

Uploading recorded data to your computer<br />

is done via an SD memory card, which<br />

The V300SD doesn’t stop where o<strong>the</strong>r loggers<br />

do. Due too it’s V-Net technology up to<br />

67 o<strong>the</strong>r sensors or gauges can be added,<br />

also at a later time. Simply plug in <strong>the</strong> new<br />

sensor module and you’re ready to go!<br />

Almost everyone is going to want to see <strong>the</strong><br />

engine RPM and <strong>the</strong> drive shaft RPM.<br />

Driveshaft speed is used to look at tire slippage<br />

and also to calculate a slippage ratio<br />

between <strong>the</strong> engine and <strong>the</strong> clutch or gearbox.<br />

After that <strong>the</strong> selection starts to spread<br />

out. Popular items include <strong>the</strong> exhaust gas<br />

temperatures (indicator of rich/lean fuel mixture),<br />

fuel pressure (fuel system efficiency),<br />

oil pressure (engine problem warning), pan<br />

vacuum (engine efficiency or warning signals),<br />

along with an accelerometer (G-meter)<br />

and battery voltage. From <strong>the</strong>re it just<br />

depends on how hungry you are for information.<br />

You can start looking at nitrous bottle or<br />

fuel pressure, fuel flow, brake pressure, manifold<br />

The AltaCom II is designed for superior infield<br />

operation. From sensor specification and<br />

T&V RACING’S OVERKILL CRANKS AND<br />

CRANKCASES<br />

The ultimate nitro burning Harley bottom-end.<br />

These are <strong>the</strong> cranks and crankcases that<br />

have put Nitro Harley racing into <strong>the</strong> new<br />

Millenium. When you demand <strong>the</strong> highest possible<br />

from your nitro burning race engine, <strong>the</strong><br />

only way to go is “side-by-side”.<br />

The cases are CNC machined from heat treated<br />

aircraft quality aluminum with a huge roller<br />

bearing on <strong>the</strong> pinion side and a huge ball and<br />

roller bearing on <strong>the</strong> output shaft side for<br />

extreme load handling and stability. The camchest<br />

is of a Sportster type configuration for<br />

better pushrod geometry and is premachined<br />

to accept an external cam driven<br />

fuel pump and oil pump. The one piece crank<br />

is made out of a special heat treated chromemoly<br />

alloy and uses a special pinion shaft,<br />

which has <strong>the</strong> pinion gear directly machined<br />

on it. This is to ensure it can handle <strong>the</strong><br />

stress of excessive exhaust pressure combined<br />

with driving <strong>the</strong> fuel and oil pump.<br />

The last weak-spot of <strong>the</strong> side-by-side configuration<br />

is <strong>the</strong> bolt and pin pattern on <strong>the</strong> output<br />

side of <strong>the</strong> cranks. <strong>Zodiac</strong> racing has <strong>the</strong><br />

cure and exclusively offers a new generation<br />

side-by-side crank that has a splined output<br />

shaft. Also made from a super tough heat<br />

treated chrome moly alloy and machined to<br />

exact tolerances, <strong>the</strong>se cranks can handle<br />

more load <strong>the</strong>n anything else on <strong>the</strong> market<br />

today.<br />

BDK FUEL METERING VALVE<br />

The BDK metering valve is used on front running<br />

nitro burners to accurately control <strong>the</strong><br />

amount of high flow fuel volume bypass. The<br />

base pressure is simply adjusted by setting<br />

<strong>the</strong> spring pressure with <strong>the</strong> T-handle. But<br />

unlike normal bypass valves, <strong>the</strong> BDK metering<br />

valve gives you <strong>the</strong> opportunity to regulate<br />

different pressures at different phases of<br />

<strong>the</strong> run. This is <strong>the</strong> fuel valve that can maximize<br />

traction at <strong>the</strong> start-line, maximize<br />

acceleration half way down <strong>the</strong> track by<br />

boosting up <strong>the</strong> fuel pressure, and maximize<br />

top end speed by leaning <strong>the</strong> engine out at<br />

<strong>the</strong> high RPM range. This is regulated by<br />

pressurizing and depressurizing <strong>the</strong> air chamber<br />

of <strong>the</strong> valve.<br />

It accommodates two AN-8 fittings for <strong>the</strong><br />

fuel inlet and output and a Festo/SMC type<br />

quick release hose fitting for <strong>the</strong> air pressure<br />

chamber. This valve is used by all <strong>the</strong> Pro’s in<br />

Nitro racing.<br />
