People Jesus Met, part 56 – The Disciples in the Closed Room (Our New Glorified Bodies)
“So the two men rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem and found the disciples.” Luke 24:33
“And the disciples said to the two men, „The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon Peter.‟”
Luke 24:34
“Then the two men began to relate their experience on the road (to Emmaus) and how Jesus revealed
Himself to them.” Luke 24:35
“And while they were still talking about all this, Jesus Himself stood among them and said to them, „Peace
be with you.‟” Luke 24:36
“On the evening of the first day of the week (i.e., Sunday night), with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish
authorities, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, „Peace be with you.‟” John 20:19
“But the disciples were terrified and frightened, and they thought they were seeing a ghost.” Luke 24:37
“Then Jesus said to them, „Why are you troubled And why do doubts arise in your minds‟” Luke 24:38
“Look at My hands and My feet. It is I, Myself! Touch Me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones
as you see I have.‟” Luke 24:39
“And when Jesus had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.” Luke 24:40
Jesus‟ hands and feet still bore the nail scars of the cross.
And Jesus showed this to His disciples to serve as living proof that this body standing before them was
truly the body of Jesus Himself.
“Was this the exact same body Jesus had while He was still here on earth – before His resurrection from
the dead”
• Appear and disappear at will (John 20:26)
• Levitate and fly through space (Acts 1:9)
• Shine with the brilliance of the sun (Revelation 1:16)
• Never die again (Revelation 1:18)
The body Jesus had after the resurrection was not an “earthly” body
“. . . glorious body.” Philippians 3:21
1 Corinthians 15 calls it an “incorruptible” body/”spiritual” body/”heavenly” body/”imperishable”
body/”immortal” body.
If you know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you are going to get one of these bodies
someday!
“Dear friends, now (as believers) we are the children of God . . . and we know that when He is revealed (at
the Second Coming), we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him just as He is.”
1 John 3:2

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we eagerly await our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by
the power He has at His disposal, l will transform our lowly bodies so that they will become like His
glorious body.” Philippians 3:20
So What
#1 – We are going to love them
#2 – They are going to be imperishable bodies
“So it will be with the resurrection of the dead. Our old body is sown (buried) perishable but it will be
raised imperishable. It is sown in dishonor but it will be raised in glory. It is sown in weakness but it will
be raised in power.” 1 Corinthians 15:42
#3 – They are going to be spiritual bodies
“Our old body is sown (buried) a natural body; it will be raised a spiritual body.” 1 Corinthians 15:44
“If we could kick the person most responsible for our troubles, we wouldn‟t be able to sit down for a week.”
“I‟m a hazard to myself . . . I‟m my own worst enemy.” Pink
Our new bodies won‟t have a “sin nature” like our present bodies do.
• Our new bodies will want to do right instead of wanting to do wrong all the time
• Our new bodies won‟t fight back when we try to obey God – they will actually cooperate!
#4 – They are going to be sexless bodies
“For in the resurrection, people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; instead, they will be like the
angels in heaven.” Matthew 22:30
Romantic relationships as we know them here on earth simply won‟t exist in heaven.
#5 – They are bodies that we must have in order to live in heaven
“Now I tell you the truth, flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, nor can these perishable
bodies inherit the imperishable.” 1 Corinthians 15:50
“For (in order for us to go to heaven) this perishable (body) must put on the imperishable and this mortal
(body) must be clothed with immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:53
You and I simply cannot go to heaven with the bodies we have now – nobody can!
To live in heaven, we must have a “heavenly” body.
“Where do these people plan to get a „heavenly body‟ – without which nobody can get into heaven”
• The only way to get one of these new, “heavenly bodies” is for the Lord Jesus Christ to give us one!
• God only gives these new bodies to people who have embraced Jesus Christ as their personal Lord
and Savior.

#1 – We are going to love our new bodies
#2 – They are going to be imperishable bodies
#3 – They are going to be spiritual (sinless) bodies
#4 – They are going to be sexless bodies
#5 – They are going to be bodies specifically designed for us to live in heaven for all eternity
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one of us may receive what is due
him for the things he did while in his (earthly) body, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10
As followers of Christ, we are all going to be resurrected . . . and be given “glorified” bodies . . . in which we
will stand before Jesus Christ . . . and give an account of how we lived in our earthly bodies.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, I‟m trying my best to do those things in my “earthly” body . . . that I will be
happy to see again when I stand before the Lord in my “glorified” body.

• I‟m getting resurrected
• I‟m getting a new immortal body
• I‟m going to live in the presence of Jesus Christ forever
• Everything I do here on earth, I‟m going to see again in heaven as I stand before the Almighty
Risen Christ
“Is what I‟m about to do something I‟m going to be happy to see again when I‟m standing in my glorified
body before the Risen Christ of the universe”
