<strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Swaran</strong> <strong>Singh</strong> has been working for 15 years on China’s foreign and security policy<br />

with special interest in India‐China studies. He has spent nine months in the Peking<br />

University. He has been teaching at CIPOD since 2001. His academic interests include<br />

Arms Control and Disarmament, Conflict Resolution, War and peace, Indian security and<br />

nuclear politics. Four <strong>Ph</strong>.D. degrees (3 co‐supervised) and 12 M.<strong>Ph</strong>il. degrees have been<br />

awarded under his supervision. He is currently supervising 8 <strong>Ph</strong>.D. students and 4<br />

M.<strong>Ph</strong>il. students.<br />

<strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Singh</strong> has been Guest Editor for China‐South Asia (Special issue) World Focus<br />

(February 2005) and for an Omnibus Issue on Sino‐Pakistani Strategic Cooperation,<br />

Peace Initiatives [Vol. V, No. III‐VI, (May‐December 1999)].<br />

<strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Singh</strong> teaches five credit courses, two of which are M.A. courses titled Introduction to<br />

Peace and Conflict Resolution (shared with a colleague) and Peace and War in the<br />

Nuclear Age and three are M.<strong>Ph</strong>il. courses, namely India and Disarmament, Strategies of<br />

Peace and War, and Science, Technology and National Security. He has <strong>org</strong>anized two<br />

major international conferences in collaboration with University for Peace of the United<br />

Nations on Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies which have led to the introduction of<br />

two elective courses for SIS Masters: ‘Curriculum Development for Peace and Conflict<br />

Studies Foundation Course’ on February 22‐24, 2005 (had 50 plus participants<br />

including from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, United States and Costa Rica) and ‘Education for<br />

Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies’ on November 23‐24, 2004. He was also Convener<br />

of a National Symposium on ‘China‐Pakistan Strategic Cooperation: Indian Perspectives’<br />

<strong>org</strong>anized in New Delhi jointly by the Centre de Science Humaines and India<br />

International Center (New Delhi) during March 19‐20, 2003.<br />

Herald Leader, (Beijing, China); Dongfeng Zao Bao (Shangahi, China), and Indian<br />

publications like Mainstream, Link, Prout, Third World Impact, Nation & the World as<br />

also newspapers like The Times of India, Hindustan Times, Economic Times, The Asian<br />

Age, The Pioneer, Financial Express, The Tribune, Observer of Business & Politics,<br />

Independent, and Deccan Herald etc. He has also contributed articles in various internet<br />

websites. He has presented numerous papers in various academic conferences and<br />

delivered lectures, both in India and abroad. He regularly lectures at the Defence


Services Staff College (Wellington), College of Naval Warfare (Mumbai), College of Air<br />

Warfare (Hydrabad), and several other Indian and foreign institutions and universities.<br />

He has participated in several panel discussions on Radio and TV and has been<br />

interviewed and quoted in media both in India and abroad, especially in the Chinese<br />
