September 1: Do you have questions about<br />

how <strong>to</strong> help your baby or preschooler learn<br />

Ellsworth School’s Family Resource Center<br />

available <strong>to</strong> work with you on issues such as age<br />

September 3: The Free Playgroups beg<strong>in</strong><br />

December 20. Children from newborn <strong>to</strong> age 5<br />

with an adult will enjoy free play, arts and crafts,<br />

a light snack and many other age appropriate<br />

September 8: What W<strong>in</strong>dsor Wore:<br />

Explor<strong>in</strong>g His<strong>to</strong>ry through Dress. This<br />

exhibition, at the W<strong>in</strong>dsor His<strong>to</strong>rical Society,<br />

96 Palisa<strong>do</strong> Avenue (Route 159), explores what<br />

W<strong>in</strong>dsor residents wore and what messages their<br />

c<strong>lot</strong>h<strong>in</strong>g communicated from the 1790’s through<br />

the end <strong>of</strong> the 20th century. Rare c<strong>lot</strong>h<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

accessories from the W<strong>in</strong>dsor His<strong>to</strong>rical Society’s<br />

extensive costume collections. Diaries, letters,<br />

portraits, <strong>in</strong>ven<strong>to</strong>ries, and account books will be<br />

used <strong>to</strong> reveal evidence about men’s and<br />

women’s work, social status, fashion, and<br />

consumer choice. A hands-on area for adults and<br />

children will allow the public <strong>to</strong> try on reproduction<br />

c<strong>lot</strong>h<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> front <strong>of</strong> a mirror, and explore<br />

conscious and unconscious messages c<strong>lot</strong>h<strong>in</strong>g<br />

can send. As part <strong>of</strong> the exhibition open<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong>day,<br />

cura<strong>to</strong>r Amber Degn will give a slide presentation<br />

show<strong>in</strong>g the detective work <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> piec<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>to</strong>gether W<strong>in</strong>dsor lives from the his<strong>to</strong>rical record.<br />

This exhibition cont<strong>in</strong>ues through June 14, 2002<br />
