Visitor guidelines
1. Be early. You should arrive approximately 15 minutes before
the tour starts.
2. No cameras allowed. Cameras and mobile camera phones
must be handed to the guide before the Blue Train tour starts, as
photography is prohibited on factory grounds.
3. Do not disturb. The Blue Train tour goes through people’s
work places why we ask you to be considerate and show due
respect.
4. Students are welcome on the Blue Train tour from eighth
grade (junior high school) and onwards. At the Brand Experience
Centre students are welcome from the first year of gymnasium
(senior high school). For companies and the general public
visitors of all ages are welcome on the Blue Train tour, but must
have turned fifteen to visit the Brand Experience Centre.
3

The Blue Train
Take the Blue Train through Volvo Cars’ torslanda plant, which was inaugurated in 1964.
Today it employs approximately 4 500 people and produces around 1 000 cars per day.
Volvo Cars’ tradition of quality and safety is incorporated in the entire production
process, from sheet metal to finished car.
4

The so called marriage point is where the body is lowered over the driving package and the two units
become one. It is from this point onward that we can refer to the one unit as a car. The 41 bolts are
tightened automatically, which is an ergonomical improvement from previously when this work was
done by hand.
The factory tour
The tour starts at Volvo Cars Visitor Centre and then goes
through the pressing plant, the body shop and the assembly
plant. The Volvo factory is modern and equipped with many
ergonomical solutions. For example the assembly staff work
on rolling sidewalks, moving with the vehicles along the production
line. Here the floors are made of springy wood to minimise strain
on legs, knees and back. In the factory there are also height
adjustable floors to enable a more ergonomic working position.
6

Tours with the Blue Train are available to companies, organisations
and schools as well as to the general public. Each train can take
a maximum of 44 passengers and the tour lasts just over one
hour. The route can vary due to developmental or maintenance
work being carried out in parts of the plant. No cameras or
mobile camera phones are allowed as photography is prohibited
on factory grounds.
and emissions can be kept to a minimum. May the best driver win!
The Environment Exhibition
”Clean inside, clean outside, clean all its life.”
This exhibition covers topics such as climate changes, the
greenhouse effect and carbon dioxide emissions. It reflects
Volvo Cars’ view on environmental work, from the way
environmental issues are handled during the production of
the car, throughout the car’s entire lifetime until it reaches the
scrapyard to be recycled. One part of the exhibition brings
up exhaust emission control, an area of great importance to
Volvo Cars. Compete against each other at the carbon dioxide
game, where the aim is to choose the fuel type that emits the
least carbon dioxide during its lifecycle. The exhibition also
includes the environment in the coupé where Volvo Cars’ air
cleaning systems and choice of materials contribute to a more
comfortable drive, also for people with allergies.
10

Volvo Cars Brand Experience Centre is open to companies, organisations
and technology-oriented schools. The guided tour of the two exhibitions
takes two hours in all.
The Safety Exhibition
”Cars are driven by people, and must therefore be developed
with a focus on personal safety.”
The safety exhibition enables you to take a close look at what
makes Volvo Cars the market leader in safety. In our safety
development we look at three aspects: preventive safety,
protective safety and comfort. Here you can see how different
safety systems help to prevent accidents, get insight into our
systems for protective safety and learn more about how
increased comfort makes you a better driver. One part of the
exhibition presents Volvo Cars’ extensive research regarding
safety for children in cars. Here are also sections from our own
accident investigation team and from our neighbour, the crash
laboratory.
speeds between 50 and 70 km/hour.
The demonstration track at Volvo Cars Demo Center was
inaugurated in 1971, and offers Volvo Cars’ broad model range
the grounds as an exciting experience in itself or combine it
with other visitor centre activities and/or a conference. Training
facilities are available on location and we can also arrange with
catering.
The Volvo Museum
See the development from the very first Volvo vehicle to the latest technology
of today. The Volvo Museum includes displays of all Volvo companies throughout
history and to the concept cars of tomorrow.
The Volvo Museum is located in Arendal on Hisingen, Göteborg,
and was opened to visitors in 1995. It is run jointly by AB Volvo
and Volvo Cars, and exhibits a broad range of Volvo history, from
the very first car in 1927 to concept models of the future. Here
are also displays of important inventions such as the three-point
safety belt, which was designed by a Volvo engineer in 1959.
The invention was found so vital for safety that it was later
implemented in all vehicle makes and models all over the world.
