• SOME IMPROVED BOUNDS ON STRONG SMALL EPSILON NETS:
[M.Tech summer research internship on Combinatorial Geometry, May - June, 2011]
Institute & Advisor: Dr. Sathish Govindarajan, Department of Computer Science and
Automation, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
Abstract: In this paper we present some new constructions of small strong ɛ-nets for rectangles,
strips and wedges. For rectangular range spaces we show ɛ R 2 ≥ 4 7
which improves upon the earlier
known bound. For strips, which had no previously known upper bounds, we show ɛ T 2 ≤ 7 8 , ɛT 3 ≤ 6 7
and ɛ T 4 ≤ 3 4
. Further we show that for i = 2, 3 upper bounds for strips are also upper bounds for
wedges. Hence ɛ W 3 ≤ 6 7 and ɛW 4 ≤ 3 4 .
• DIGITAL IMAGE SEGMENTATION USING MULTI-OBJECTIVE GENETIC
ALGORITHMS: [MCA Dissertation on Image processing, January - June, 2010]
Institute & Advisor: Dr. Santi Prasad Maity, Dept. of Information Technology, Bengal
Engineering and Science University (BESU), Shibpur.
Abstract: A new algorithm for gray scale image segmentation was proposed by formulating the
problem of image segmentation as a multi-objective optimization problem and using Genetic
Algorithm to carry out the optimization.
• Bengali PDF Analyzer: [M.Tech(CS) Compiler Design course assignment, December 2011] -
A C++ based lexical analyser for PDF files that detects and extracts embedded Bengali fonts and
corresponding text streams. It then develops a transcoder (or use one if it already exists) to get
the UTF-8 encoded stream from the current text stream and thus assists in proper indexing and
retrieval of Bengali PDF files.
• ISISH : [M.Tech(CS) Operating System course assignment, April 2011] - A new Linux shell,
implementing all but scripting features of existing shells, was developed using C++.
• SAS - Segmentation Algorithm Simulator: [part of MCA major project, June 2010] - A
Java based platform independent tool to load and segment gray scale images with facilities for
easy integration and testing of new segmentation algorithms encapsulated in a Java class.
• Direct Access: [MCA minor project, December 2009] - A portable, light-weight, platform independent,
peer-to-peer chatting and file transfer application. Application was developed using Java
Socket programming API, Java Swing (GUI) and XML (for data sharing).
• Languages known: English, Bengali, Hindi.
• Interests: Solving algorithmic problems in online judges like Topcoder, Sphere online judge,
Codechef, past ACM ICPC and Google code-jam problems and learning some new algorithms,
more efficient implementations and problem solving tricks and techniques in the process. Besides,
I watch lots of movies and love playing computer games.
