It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 98th Season of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra! We have many wonderful programs planned and I hope you will find them as exciting as I do. I decided to introduce myself to you this year by offering just a sampling of some of my own favorite pieces and composers. We will also have some incredible guest artists joining us—many of them appearing with the GBSO for the very first time. Donato Cabrera Lilya Zilberstein, Piano Andrew Sewell, Conductor Andrew Sewell The architectural grandeur and acoustical warmth of Green Bay’s historic Ralph Holter Auditorium embrace musicians and audience alike in November. No stranger to local audiences, featured pianist Lilya Zilberstein brings to life the beautiful first piano concerto of Russia’s Dmitri Shostakovich. Works by Bach and Mozart will transport you back in time to Germany’s Baroque and Classical eras. Finally, you will return to 20 th Century America for Aaron Copland’s most famous work—heard here in its original version for 13 instruments. Lilya Zilberstein Concert Sponsor Donato Cabrera, Conductor Whether the daffodils are blooming in Green Bay or not, Strauss’ Viennese waltz will have you dancing barefoot in an Alpine meadow. Then, as the delicate strings soar through Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, so will your heart. Finally, few composers could transform the range of human emotion into a work as compellingly dramatic, yet beautiful, as did Peter Tchaikovsky in his Fourth Symphony—one of the great emotional and inspiring musical journeys in all of symphonic literature. Concert Sponsor I look forward to becoming a part of the Green Bay community and encourage you to write me personally about what you like, what you don’t like, and what you would like to hear in the future. My goal is to make the symphony a regular part of your life. It is my sincere belief that great music adds greatness to our lives. Whether you’re a regular at the symphony or a first-time attendee, a live, symphony concert is an experience beyond measure! Please join me for a season of outstanding music. The GBSO Hits the Road!
