Meridian, Bill necting the north pole, the zenith (the point in the sky directly overhead), the south pole, and the nadir (the point directly opposite the zenith). MERIDIAN, BILL Bill Meridian obtained his master’s degree in business administration in 1972 and began to study astrology in the same year. He first began applying computers to financial astrology in 1983, and eventually designed the AstroAnalyst. He contributed the efficiency test, first-trade charts, composite cycles, and many other useful tools to AIR Software’s Market Trader program. Meridian has authored Planetary Stock Trading and Planetary Economic Forecasting. His study of the effect of the lunar cycle on stocks was accepted as part of accreditation for his CMT designation, a finding confirmed by two studies at the University of Michigan. He currently is a fund manager. In the summer of 2002, Meridian’s Cycles Research service was ranked number two in the United States for stock market timing in the previous year by Timer Digest. MERLIN Merlin, asteroid 2,598 (the 2,598th asteroid to be discovered, on September 7, 1980), is approximately 16 kilometers in diameter and has an orbital period of 4.6 years. It is named after Merlin the magician. If prominent in a natal chart, Merlin may signify a person for whom things seem to come together “magically” or, in rare instances, someone who is actually interested in magic. The sign and house position of Merlin in a natal chart indicates how and where this “magic” manifests. Sources: Kowal, Charles T. Asteroids: Their Nature and Utilization. Raymond Merriman is a contemporary astrologer best known for his work in the astrology of the stock market. His formal education and training includes a bachelor’s degree in psychology (Michigan State University, 1969); postgraduate studies in clinical psychology (Michigan State and University of Michigan, 1969–71); professional (certified) life member of the American Federation of Astrologers (PLMAFA since 1972); commodities trading advisor (CTA, 1982); and series 3 and 7 exams for commodities, financial futures, securities and investments (1986, 1989). Currently, Merriman is president of the Merriman Market Analyst, Inc., an investment advisory firm specializing in market timing products and services. He is the editor of the MMA Cycles Report, an advisory newsletter issued 17 times a year, [446] THE ASTROLOGY BOOK
