ONTARIO Jurors Panel Ron Mazza, M.Eng., LEED AP, P.Eng. Principal RJC Ron has over thirty five years’ experience in structural design, and now leads the firm’s sustainable design initiatives. He enjoys collaborating with a design team to develop creative structural solutions that work for a building in its entirety. After graduating from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded a National Research Council Scholarship, Ron earned a Master of Engineering degree from the University of British Columbia specializing in structures. He joined RJC’s Toronto office in 1975. Paul Mikolich, Chair, Jurors Panel Marketing and Government Relations Manager, Gerdau Ameristeel Mr. Mikolich has twenty five years of steel industry experience. In 2008 Paul’s role changed to Marketing and Government relations for the Canadian operations. Prior to that, Mr. Mikolich held various positions with Gerdau Ameristeel, with two of the three Canadian operations. Mr. Mikolich is currently on the board of directors for the Whitby Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Institute of Steel Construction, Steel Structures Education Foundation and Ontario Chapter of the Metal Service Centre Institute. Joanne McCall, P. Eng. Vice President for Bridges and Structures, Delcan Ms. McCall is a structural engineer by profession, and has a background in design and project management of bridges, marine structures, and other structures related to transportation infrastructure. Ms. McCall is experienced in a range of specialty structures including movable bridges, transit structures, and architectural footbridges, all with a strong focus on steel design and construction. Steven Ploeger, M.Arch., B.Tech. (Arch.), OAA, MRAIC, Assoc. AIA, NSAA, LEED AP Principal, Perkins+Will Canada Steven is a Principal and the Science + Technology Market Sector Leader at the Toronto office of Perkins+Will Canada. With over twenty two years experience in architectural management and professional consulting, he has led the office’s growth in the design and construction of major pharmaceutical and biotechnology projects, laboratory projects, law enforcement and academic projects. Steven is currently the Principal-in-Charge of the Trent University Health & Life Sciences Project as well as the University of Guelph School of Engineering Revitalization Project.
