During your training, you have the opportunity to
refine your skills and knowledge. As a candidate
you can select your individual set of core and
optional competencies*. Depending on the APC
Pathway, these could include, for instance, risk
management, procurement and tendering, or capital
taxation. There are also mandatory competencies*
for all chartered surveyors – every RICS trainee gains
knowledge and experience in rules of conduct,
ethics and professional practice, communication,
business planning and management. To ensure that
you get the support you need, you will be backed
by a Counsellor* and a Supervisor*, who will guide
you and discuss with you your progress.
At least your Counsellor needs to be a chartered
surveyor who knows how to mentor you through
your personal development and help you achieve
the RICS professional qualification.
