Nautilus Pensions Association

In these uncertain economic times, many

people are worried about their financial future

— so Nautilus offers UK seafarers an

opportunity to build their ‘pension power’.

We have more than 155 years of experience

in looking after the needs of maritime

professionals — and we are building on that

by having a body that serves as both a pressure

group and a support body for those concerned

about their pensions.

The Nautilus Pensions Association (NPA):

z provides a focal point for seafarer pension

scheme members — increasing their influence

within, and knowledge of, the Merchant Navy

Officers’ Pension Fund and other schemes

within the industry

z represents all members of the MNOPF and

MNOPP, which is particularly important at a

time of many changes in both

z serves as a channel for professional advice

on all kinds of pensions, as well as offering

specific information on legal and government

developments on pensions. It also supports the

Union in lobbying the government as required

z provides a ‘one-stop shop’ for advice on

other organisations providing support and

assistance to pensioners

z offers a range of specialised services

and benefits tailored to the needs of retired

z operates as a democratic organisation,

being a Nautilus Council body — with the

secretary and secretariat provided by Nautilus

The NPA is supervised by a committee of nine

individuals — four elected by the NPA membership

and four nominated by the general secretary,

plus the general secretary. It elects the four

committee members for a period of office of four

years, with half being elected every two years.

The NPA committee meets at least once a year

and is able to submit motions to the UK

National Committee, as well as reporting back

to a meeting of that Committee once a year.

The NPA was set up to build on the existing

highly popular Nautilus pension forums, which

continue to hold at least four sessions around

the UK each year, open to all NPA members.

The forums can submit motions to the NPA

committee and from there to the UK National

Committee — potentially shaping the stance

adopted at the MNOPF and MNOPP by the

Union’s officer directors on the Trustee Boards.

NPA membership is open to all UK Merchant

Navy seafarers — past and present — and costs

just £3.95 per month. Whether you are an

active, deferred or pensioner member of the

MNOPF, an active or deferred MNOPP member,

or even an active or non-active members of

another pension scheme (either personal

pension plans or employer-provided) the NPA is

there for you. Simply fill in the form opposite.

Existing affiliate (retired) members of Nautilus

International will automatically be enrolled in the

NPA free of charge. Other Nautilus members can

opt to join the NPA at no charge by contacting the

membership department, at membership@

nautilusint.org or calling +44 (0)20 8989 6677.
