5. GIORNATE DEGLI AUTORI (Directors’ Selection) A series of 10-12 films independently selected by a commission nominated by the Italian Association of Film-makers (ANAC - Associazione Nazionale Autori Cinematografici) and by the Association of Independent Directors and Producers (API - Associazione Autori e Produttori Indipendenti) in accordance with their own regulations. 6. MERCATO DEL FILM - INDUSTRY OFFICE As part of the Festival, a “Film Market” will be organised, which will place its infrastructure and screening rooms at the service of producers and international sales companies. Participation in the “Film Market” will be effected in accordance with specific regulations. 7. JURIES AND AWARDS 7.1 Venezia 64 An International Jury of seven or nine personalities from the world of cinema and culture of various countries, excluding any who have worked on the production of the works invited or who have an interest in their distribution, will assign the following prizes for the feature films (no joint winners permitted): - Golden Lion for best film - Silver Lion for best director - Special Jury Prize - Coppa Volpi for Best Actor - Coppa Volpi for Best Actress - “Marcello Mastroianni” Award for Best Young Actor or Actress - Osella for Best Tchnical Contribution - Osella for Best Screenplay The Jury may also choose to award a Special Lion for an overall work to a director or actor of a film presented in the Venezia 64 section. Films awarded the Golden Lion, Silver Lion or Special Jury Prize may not win the Coppa Volpi (for actors or actresses) or the Mastroianni Award. They may, however, compete for one of the two Oselle. 7.2 Corto Cortissimo An International Jjury of three personalities from the world of cinema and culture of various countries, excluding any who have worked on the production of the works invited or who have an interest in their distribution, will assign the following prizes for the short films (no joint winners permitted): - Corto Cortissimo Lion for the Best Short Film - UIP Prize for the Best European Short Film - a Special Mention. 7.3 Orizzonti An International Jury of 3 or 5 personalities from the world of cinema and culture of various countries, excluding any who have worked on the production of the works invited or who have an interest in their distribution, will assign the following prizes for the full-length films (no joint winners permitted): - Orizzonti Prize - Orizzonti Doc Prize 7.4 “Luigi De Laurentiis” Prize for a First Film All the debut full-length films presented in the various sections of the Film Festival will be eligible for the Lion of the Future – “Luigi De Laurentiis”Venice Award for a First Film. An International Jury of 3 or 5 figures of various nationalities from the world of cinema and culture of various countries, including a producer, will award a prize of USD 100,000, donated by Filmauro, to be divided equally between director and producer (no joint winners permitted). The director will also receive a 40,000 Euro voucher to be spent 4/27/2007 pagina 2 di 6
in film, offered by Kodak. 7.5 The Juries will operate according to their own regulations; the Director of the Festival or his delegate can attend the meetings to advise on matters of regulations or procedures. 7.6 The Director will propose the nominations for the award of a maximum of two Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement to the President and Board of Directors. 7.7 The producers and distributors of the films presented undertake to display a notice with the mention of any prize received, the Biennale logo and that of its partners when each of these films are given a public screening. 8. SELECTION OF FILMS 8.1 Conditions for the submission of a film Both feature-length and short films will be admitted in the following final formats: • 35mm; • Digital Cinema Package – DCP (see point 9.4) All films submitted must be of recent production, terminated not prior to September 2006, and must not have been already presented in any other form or duration, not even as a work-in-progress, for the selections of preceding editions of the Festival. Under no circumstances can films be presented at the Venice Film Festival that have been screened publicly in Italy or outside their country of origin. Works previously presented in competing or non-competing sections at other international festivals are also excluded, as are those already distributed via Internet. 8.2 Selection procedure Regarding the selection of the films submitted, the Festival Director will be assisted by a commission of five experts, as well as by a group of international consultants with competence for different geographical areas. The Managing Director of the Cinema Department and/or his delegate can be present at the meetings; the Cinema Department Programming Office will register each decision. 8.3 Inscription fees For every film entered for selection to the Festival, excluding the shorts, an inscription fee of Euro 60 is requested to cover administrative costs. This sum will not be reimbursed if the registered film is not sent to the Festival address. The costs of screenings organised away from the main venue (Venice) are to be met by the participants. 8.4 Materials In order to be eligible for selection, the films must be presented no later than June 15 th 2007, with: a) the selection entry form duly completed exclusively via our website, www.labiennale.org; b) one print (35mm) or a DVD or BETACAM (Pal only), which must reach the Festival address in any case by 20 th June 2007. For short films only DVDs are admitted; c) story outline in Italian or English or French, a bio-filmography of the director, the cast and credits, a list of dialogues and, if possible, a press-book; d) payment of the inscription fee. The Festival is under no obligation to return DVDs and videos submitted for selection, unless they arrive with prepaid return via express carrier (courier or diplomatic bag). Any returns must be requested no later than October 2007. 9. INVITED FILMS 9.1 Participation Form The invited films will receive a participation form to be duly completed and returned no later than 20 th July 4/27/2007 pagina 3 di 6
