• Your controlled assessment is worth 25% of<br />
your overall grade, this is the equivalent to<br />
50 marks towards your overall GCSE.<br />
• Your controlled assessment has 6 sections.<br />
These are:-<br />
– Purpose of the investigation<br />
– Method of data collection<br />
– Data <strong>presentation</strong><br />
– Analysis and conclusion<br />
– Evaluation<br />
– Planning and organisation<br />

What does high control and<br />
limited control mean<br />
Longfield Academy of Sport<br />
Limited control<br />
The candidate can complete the work<br />
without being directly supervised by the<br />
teacher or other impartial adults. They<br />
can work in small groups or individually.<br />
Limited teacher feedback can be given.<br />
High control<br />
The work must be formally supervised and<br />
kept securelat all times. It cannot be taken<br />
home! Candidates must not communicate<br />
with each other regarding the task.<br />
Computers can be used BUT teachers<br />
must ensure that work is secure. New<br />
research material must not be included at<br />
this stage.

Where are they going<br />
• Students will be going to Grasmere in the<br />
Lake District.<br />

• They will be stopping in Grasmere Youth<br />
Hostel.<br />

• There are two fieldwork trips on the:-<br />
– 14 TH to 16 TH of October<br />
– 11 th to 14 th of November.

What do they need to bring<br />

• Arrive on Friday in<br />
– Warm comfortable clothes.<br />
– Sensible footwear (NOT PLIMSOLLS !)<br />
Make sure your footwear is<br />
comfortable<br />
– A day rucksack and night bag.<br />
– Small bag with your clothes in.

• Arrive on Friday with your night bag<br />
and day rucksack containing:-<br />
– Your lunch<br />
– Warm waterproof clothes<br />
– Extra layers<br />
– Pen, pencil etc.<br />
– Space in your bag for extra equipment.

• Depart from school at 9.15<br />
• Arrive at Grasmere Youth Hostel 11.00<br />
• Leave bags in the classroom. This room will be locked. Toilet stop<br />
• Walk around Grasmere and take photographs.11.30<br />
• Divide into 3 groups (10 students 1 member of staff)<br />
• Questionnaire and traffic count<br />
• 12.30 meet at the Village Green<br />
• Toilet Stop<br />
• Walk around the Lake collect footpath erosion data.<br />
• 1.15 have lunch alongside the Lake.<br />
• 2.30 toilet stop Village Green.<br />
• 2.40-3.40 Collect footpath erosion data (non managed area)<br />
• 3.40-4.10 traffic count<br />
• Meet on the Village Green 4.10 walk back to the Youth Hostel.<br />
• 4.10 till 4.30 students given room keys and time to place their belongings in the<br />
room.<br />
• 4.30 students meet in the classroom.<br />
• 4.30-4.45 instructions for methodology write up<br />
• 4.45-6.00 write up methodology (low control)<br />
• 6.00-7.00 Dinner<br />
• 7.00- 10.00 Classroom completing methodology<br />
• Drinks and Bed 10.30<br />

• Up 7.15am<br />
• Breakfast 8.00am-8.45am<br />
• Make packed lunch in the classroom.<br />
• 9.00 START (all students keys will be removed from them<br />
at this point)<br />
• 9.00-9.30 Make improvements to the Methodology<br />
section.<br />
• 9.30-12.30:- Data handling and graphing raw data.<br />
• 12.30-1.15 Lunch<br />
• 1.15- 6.00 complete graphing data.<br />
• 6.00-7.00 Dinner<br />
Saturday<br />
• 7.00 -8.30 instructions data analysis (high control = exam<br />
conditions)<br />
• 8.30-9.00 High control data interpretation and analysis

• Up 7.15am<br />
• Breakfast 8.00am-8.45am<br />
• Make packed lunch in the classroom.<br />
• 9.00 START (all students keys will be removed from them<br />

• 9-10.30am finishing off controlled assessment<br />
• 10.30-11am Clean Classroom, and rooms.<br />
• Bus will depart 11.30am<br />
Sunday<br />
• Arrive home approximately 1.00am (students will phone<br />
when they get to Scotch Corner)

• Remember this is your controlled<br />
assessment and will go towards<br />
25% of your overall grade at<br />
GCSE.<br />
• This trip will be a lot of work.<br />
• At times exam conditions<br />
will be expected.

Rules<br />

• No one is allowed in another<br />
persons room.<br />
• All room keys will be handed in<br />
during the day.<br />
• Bring mobile phones and electrical<br />
goods at your own risk.<br />
• You must follow all instructions,<br />
they have been given for a reason.<br />
• Do not bring anything along that<br />
would not be accepted at school

• Bring them at your own risk.<br />
• Mobile phones will need to be<br />
switched off in the classroom. This<br />
means that your <strong>parents</strong> may not be<br />
able to contact you during the day.<br />
However if they have any queries<br />
that can contact Miss Stones on the<br />
school mobile or Grasmere youth<br />
hostel.
