Special Olympics North Carolina hosted its annual Camp SOAR, or Special Olympics Athletic Retreat, at the Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center in south Charlotte. The weeklong day camp, created specifically for individuals with special needs, saw more than 300 campers and nearly 400 volunteers from Matthews, Mint Hill, south Charlotte, Union County, Huntersville and other surrounding communities. “It’s been a huge success,” said media relations specialist Al Tinson. Camp SOAR reaches out to individuals Mint Hill extends online survey Officials: More resident input needed on land use by Kara Lopp kara@matthewsminthillweekly.com Mint Hill residents now have until July 11 to take an online citizen survey about what type of development should come to town and where. The extension is especially good news for Hidden Hills resident Chris McAvoy who is opposed to the town’s proposed Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
