SMART <strong>Modular</strong> <strong>Technologies</strong>’ <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> small form factor (SFF),<br />
industrial-grade embedded <strong>SATA</strong> module is a robust solid state drive<br />
product. This drive specifically targets the needs of OEM markets,<br />
such as server, storage cache / accelerators, networking, and data<br />
communications applications requiring reliable internal storage with a<br />
small footprint. SMART’s embedded products are also a natural fit for<br />
mobile and embedded computing, medical, automotive, and industrial<br />
applications. The small form factor, low power consumption, and fast data<br />
throughput are major advantages of the SMART’s <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> module<br />
over traditional rotating hard disk drives (HDDs).<br />
The mechanical dimensions of the <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> products are compatible<br />
with both standoff and card guide mounting methods and are fully MO-<br />
297A compliant. The power connections are universal. The <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong><br />
can be connected without requiring jumpers to any combination of 3.3 V<br />
and 5 V input power. Utilizing an industry-standard <strong>SATA</strong> interface and<br />
connector, <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> modules are easily integrated into a host system<br />
without any special BIOS modifications or additional device drivers.<br />
The <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> module is offered with either multi-level cell (MLC) or<br />
single- level cell (SLC) NAND flash. The MLC <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> offers sustained<br />
read performance up to 180MBs/sec and sustained write performance of<br />
up to 100 MBs/sec. The <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> SLC products offer sustained read<br />
performance up to 140MBs/sec and sustained write and sustained write<br />
performance of up to 100MBs/sec.<br />
The <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> addresses the need for enhanced reliability by<br />
incorporating on-board error detection and correction and static wear<br />
leveling algorithms to provide reliable operation over the product life<br />
cycle. The <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> supports self-monitoring analysis and reporting<br />
technology (S.M.A.R.T.), which is designed to reduce field failures and<br />
unscheduled service maintenance operations. By providing an accurate<br />
forecast of the expected lifespan, S.M.A.R.T. enables a reliable monitoring<br />
application that efficiently supports <strong>SATA</strong> <strong>Slim</strong> <strong>XL</strong> in the field and<br />
guarantees a 24/7 service availability.<br />
