<strong>Programme</strong> overview<br />

The general Master’s programme <strong>in</strong> <strong>Biology</strong> gives you an<br />

opportunity to design a personal study plan. You choose<br />

from around 50 courses at advanced level <strong>in</strong> biology. We<br />

have excellent facilities for laboratory work and conduct<strong>in</strong>g<br />

field experiments. Most courses are full-time studies and<br />

you usually take only one course at a time. The courses are<br />

typically teach<strong>in</strong>g-<strong>in</strong>tensive, with lectures, sem<strong>in</strong>ars, excursions<br />

as well as theoretical and practical exercises. You are<br />

expected to spend about 40 hours per week on studies, selfstudies<br />

<strong>in</strong>cluded. Normally you take two courses of 15 ECTS<br />

credits per term, i.e. a total of 60 ECTS credits per year.<br />

The knowledge and skills you will ga<strong>in</strong> on this programme<br />

open doors to employment with<strong>in</strong> many sectors of academia<br />

and society. Employment can be found with<strong>in</strong> agencies concerned<br />

with environmental protection issues, education<br />

or research fund<strong>in</strong>g. The programme also provides a solid<br />

ground<strong>in</strong>g that prepares you for further postgraduate<br />

Admission requirements<br />

A Bachelor’s degree <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 90 ECTS credits <strong>in</strong> biology<br />

which should <strong>in</strong>clude cell biology, genetics and microbiology<br />

(15 ECTS credits), ecology (15 ECTS credits), botany (15<br />

ECTS credits), zoology (15 ECTS credits), chemistry (15 ECTS<br />

credits) and statistics (7.5 ECTS credits). English B (advanced).<br />

About the Department of <strong>Biology</strong><br />

We have an outstand<strong>in</strong>g competence <strong>in</strong> both education and<br />

research, cover<strong>in</strong>g a large number of biological discipl<strong>in</strong>es<br />

with everyth<strong>in</strong>g from molecular biology to large scale ecology.<br />

Several of our research groups are world-lead<strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong><br />

their topic, which shows by the large number of <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

projects be<strong>in</strong>g coord<strong>in</strong>ated from the department of<br />

<strong>Biology</strong>. S<strong>in</strong>ce our education is <strong>in</strong>tegrated with the research<br />

with<strong>in</strong> the department you will, dur<strong>in</strong>g your studies, have<br />

researchers as teachers and get <strong>in</strong>to close contact with the<br />

ongo<strong>in</strong>g projects. Our courses range from basic to Master’s<br />

level and we offer around 50 advanced level courses. We<br />

also have an extensive postgraduate programme.<br />
