RULES: Snakes & Ladders - Dignity Do’s & Don’ts
Remember that aim of the game is to provide a lighthearted way of discussing
the issues around Dignity, Respect and Equalities and how we as professionals can
influence our own and others behaviours and responses.
1. The games should be played by two or more players each choosing a different
colour counter.
2. Players take it in turns to throw the dice and move the number thrown.
3. If a player lands on a square with the foot of a ladder in it they must undertake
a “Ladder Challenge”. To do this:
• Another player takes the a Challenge card off the top of the “Ladder” pile, the
same person then reads aloud the question on the card.
• The player undertaking the challenge must give an appropriate answer to the
scenario on the card to climb the ladder.
• The remaining players then discuss the answer and decide on whether that
would be an appropriate response. Remember there may be more than one
appropriate response.
• If the remaining group of players agree it is an appropriate answer the player at
the foot of the ladder climbs to the top of that ladder.
4. If a player lands on a square with the head/top of a snake they must undertake
a “Snake Challenge”. To do this:
• Another player takes a Challenge card off the top of the “Snake” pile, the same
person then reads aloud the question on the card.
• Should the question be a multiple choice question all must be read aloud.
• The correct answer will be in RED text.
• The player undertaking the challenge must answer the question correctly to
prevent descending to the bottom the snake.
5. When playing, should you run out of either challenge cards before the game
is completed players can take it in turn to provide a scenario or question for
each challenge as it arises.
6. The winner is the first to land on the final square with an exact throw of the
dice. Alternatively the person closest to the winning square when the playing
time finishes.
