RON HARPER

2008 Board President

First off, congratulations

to the new

members of the

Board of Governors.

Y o u e l e c t e d

Marilyne Todd, Troy

Williamson and Lisa

Baird as the new Atlarge

members of

the Board. All of

these were elected

for a 2 year term.

Next time you see them at the club make sure

you congratulate them and thank them for

donating their time and energy.

New Years Eve was great (as usual). There are

some pictures floating around of some guy

wearing a Liberace style jacket on the dance

floor. If you see those please ignore them.

(What was I thinking)

Donny and his staff have a great year planned

for 2008. We are all trying to make the club a

place where we would want to go for entertainment,

dining and fun. Chef Jason has put

together a variety of menus for Thursday and

Friday nights that have been well received. If

you have not tried Date Night yet, you have

missed out on one of the finest dining

experiences that is available in Collin County.

I have heard several people express interest in

starting up some additional Clubs in a Club

activities. If you have an interest in something

and would like to find others with the same

interest talk to Donny or Colleen and they will

let you know how you can set it up.

Limited Seating Available At 5:30 pm & 8:00 pm

As we enjoy another Super

Bowl (some just enjoy the ads),

we can’t help but think about

why the Cowboys are not

playing in it. Everyone, including

us, thought they would be

there. After all, they were 13

and 3 and had a great season.

Why did they lose to New

York in the playoffs A lack of

focus –not team focus, but

individual focus.

Bob & Carolyn Philo

Ambassador Co-Chairs

The members of the Ambasadors’ Club are each

individually focused on the same three functions:

welcome new members and potential members to the

Club; make sure that new members become quickly and

completely integrated into the Club; and, having fun.

That’s what we do.

Lastly, we continue to try to identify friends and

acquaintances that should be members of the

club. If you know of anyone, please contact

Chelsea and she will help set up the appropriate

appointments. If you can’t find her in her normal

spot–check out her new office area in the Golf

Pro Shop.

Part of the integration into the Club is the introduction

of the concepts of “membership by invitation” and “ful

with a waiting list”. Our newest members are our

richest resource of referrals for additional members.

We believe in the value of our Club and invite you to

watch while our membership grows from referrals as

our newest members also see and share the value of

our Club.

Gossip From The Grill

I have exciting news for all the members that enjoyed the

Wednesday Night Half Off in January. Due to the huge success

and positive feedback, we are pleased to extend Half Price

delicious entrée specials and now are expanding the menu to

include tantalizing dessert specials. Please make plans to

experience a night of great food, service and spending time with your

As February rolls

around, we begin

our pre-emergent

h e r b i c i d e

applications to

control spring

weeds on the golf

course. This

process usually

takes around a

week to complete

depending on the

weather and

helps keep the

golf course clean

Paul Hagy

Golf Course Superintendent

throughout the spring and summer months.

We do this in a two part process. The first part

is to spray the entire golf course, then come

back 45-60 days later and put out a granular

pre emergent. This works well to extend the

weed control well into the summer months.

Any weeds that sneak through the pre

emergent barrier will then be sprayed with a

post emergent herbicide to keep the course in

the best shape possible.

The golf course seems to have made it through

the winter months very well and is set up to be

in outstanding shape when spring comes

around. I know we are all looking forward to

some beautiful golf weather and ramping up

the maintenance staff. The other project that

we are working on right now is going through

all of the sprinklers on the golf course to make

sure they are working properly heading into

the summer months. This should take a month

or so and will identify and problems that we

have and ensure that everything is ready for

the summer.

WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD MEN!

If you are over fifty years old, you qualify for the Senior Men's Golf Association

(SMGA). At present, we have approximately 60 members, but there is room for

more. We play tournaments every Tuesday morning using different formats. This gives us

a chance to meet other members and to play golf. Handicaps range from 1 to 36. There are

no annual dues, but we do have a $5.00 entry fee for each tournament.

Two major tournaments we have are the Mars/Venus where we take on the ladies

associations in a "friendly" battle and the SMGA Championship to determine the best "sand

bagger". We also have 4 or 5 inter club tournaments with other local clubs throughout the

year.

If you are interested, sign in or call the pro shop on Tuesday at least 30 minutes prior to

the shotgun at 8:30 or 9:00 during daylight savings. We also are trying to establish a Super

Senior group that tees off around 10:00 for those 65 and older who only want to play

9 holes. We usually end at the grill for socializing or lunch as appropriate.

Contact Val Scott 214-592-9954 or Luis Bazan 972-562-9657 if you have any questions or

wish to secure your place in this "champions" organization.

TENNIS KNOWLEDGE: STRINGS AND RACKETS HAVE A SHELF LIFE.

Most rackets can last from 2-20 years depending on the feel that a player enjoys, however most rackets do break down over time

and the average shelf life of a racket is 2-2 1/2 years. This means that from the day you buy a racket till the day it begins to lose

playability is about 2 years. (Depending on number of times used per week and or how hard you are on your equipment) The

carbon fiber technologies that allow rackets to be lighter and faster break down and lose stiffness, feel, and playability with every

hard swing you take. You don’t have to replace the racket, but like and old pair of shoes you might think it’s just right.

Strings however are a diferent animal. Strings are must like a new car…once you drive it of the lot the value depreciates. Every

time you strike a ball you are stretching the string and thus changing the characteristics of that strings effectiveness. String

companies have taken great strides to prevent compression loss with more elastic materials, but the average string changes

tension to -10 lbs within 3 months. (Again depending on number of days per week and swing speed/style)

Simple rule of Thumb: Take the number of days played per week. Re-string your racket that many times per year. Replace your

racket once every that number of years. Ex. 3 times per week= 3 re-strings per year and one new racket every 3 years! This also

represents the number of years that it takes for technology to actual change that much from the current racket you are playing

with.

What is it

It is a program where we teach you the most safe and efficient golf stretching routines (which will often diminish or

eliminate pain caused by tight muscles); We help you understand why your body may be causing your swing faults;

learn what physical limitations correspond to which swing faults; improve your golf posture and rotational ability,

upper and lower body flexibility, strength, stability, balance; and to understand how you can get more distance

(who doesn’t what that). We wil give you suggestions on how to make your workouts in the gym more eficient

and tailored to your golf game. We will also help you with ideas on ways to get your swing in shape at home with

and without equipment or aids.

Who teaches it

Jackie Reyes–NMT(Intern), CPT, C.H.E.K. Level III, H.N.L.C. Level III, and Golf Biomechanic. Jackie has 10 years

experience in the health, fitness and wellness industry. Jackie has worked with a wide range of clients from the

serious athletes to the stay at home moms; designing and implementing individualized programs for corrective

exercise, stretching, Neuromuscular Therapy, nutrition and lifestyle coaching. Golf Biomechanics assess the golfer

and selects effective exercises and stretches appropriate for each individual golfer. Golfers need to have timing,

control, accuracy and skill. Your exercise program needs to contain these elements also.

When is it and how much does it cost

Classes will begin Saturday February 9 th and run through March 1 st and will be held every Tuesday

and Thursday from 9:30 am–10:30 am, and every Saturday from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. Registered

students will be allowed to attend any 6 of the 12 scheduled sessions throughout the month. The cost for the 6

session program is just $99. If you will be attending less than 4 sessions, a pro-rated fee can be worked out with the

instructor.

How do I sign up

You can register by e-mailing the Head Golf Professional, Scott McClinton, at smcclinton@eldoradocc.com and

letting him know the following: Name, member number, dates you are tentatively planning on attending, and if you

have any physical limitations that hinder your golf swing. Also, please e-mail Scott at mcclinton@eldoradocc.com if you

are interested in the program but are unable to attend during any of those times.

“Do you want golf to be easier Do you want to hit the bal farther and straighter I did, and developing

a golf specific exercise routine made it happen. I will be attending every session; Jackie is great!

I recommend it to al my students.”
