We help divorcing spouses
and families avoid court and
costly litigation by creating
lasting mutual agreements.

A Message From Michael Aurit, JD, MDR
Founder and Professional Mediator-Attorney
If you are considering mediation, you are one step closer to resolving your
divorce, or family related issue while avoiding the high costs, stress, and
unnecessary destruction that litigation causes. You do not need to fight it out
in court. The court process is far more expensive and time-consuming. The
all-out war of litigation damages everyone in the end.
As your mediator I will not decide who is right or who is wrong. Instead, I will
guide you toward an agreement. We will solve problems and negotiate terms
that all involved agree upon. My goal is to create opportunities in the room
that will lead to you walking away with a signed, legally binding, mutually
acceptable settlement agreement rather than having a judge determine the
terms for you.
Simply put: when faced with choice, you have nothing to lose and everything
to gain by mediating your result rather than going to court.
In me, you have a mediator that empathizes with the difficulties of divorce and
family conflict. The journey that brings you to mediation is unique to you. I’m
there with you every step of the way.
About The Aurit Center
Better for you.
The best for your family.
Our goal is to provide an affordable, less stressful alternative to litigation that keeps
you in control of your own future. In mediation, you can ensure that everyone involved
feels satisfied about the outcome.
Our approach is simple, successful and cost-effective.
“ Mediation is the far better choice that divorcing parents can make for the sake of their
children. Michael is a compassionate mediator. I would trust him with my thoughts and
feelings knowing that he would lead me to the best solution for my situation.”
Cathi Jensen Searles
Elementary School Teacher, PVUSD, 30+ years
“ Michael is that rare combination of a consummate professional and a compassionate
listener. He is extremely adept at listening to disputes between individuals and
understands intimately the sacrifices, which must be made in order to reach a
compromise and settlement. His calm demeanor and conciliatory style is what make
his methods so efficacious in dispute resolution.”
Reeve Chudd, Esq.
Ervin, Cohen and Jessup, LLP
“ Michael is committed to the process of understanding both sides of every argument,
evaluating the parties’ goals, and then developing a resolution strategy. He is
professional, effective, and well-regarded amongst his peers.”
Evan Schube, Esq.
Quarles & Brady, LLP, Phoenix, Arizona
“ Empathy, compassion, humor, and warmth — these are traits that Michael exudes;
they are at the core of his being. Michael has the unique gift of humanizing the most
contentious of disagreements and family conflicts. When his clients come to him in
emotional turmoil, he lends them hope and creates amicable resolutions to complicated
disputes.”
The Advantages of Mediation
Over Litigation
Mediation is a process for resolving a case or dispute without going to court. A neutral mediator helps
parties reach a mutual agreement, sometimes called a settlement. In mediation, parties are able to
discover and discuss options that create an opportunity for a settlement in which both parties win.
Mediation saves you money and time.
Mediation is far less expensive than the cost of litigation. Often, parties spend 10 to 20 times more
litigating their case compared to mediation. In Maricopa County, divorce litigation costs have been
estimated at $18,000 per spouse on average. Most attorneys require a large retainer. Mediation fees
are literally a fraction of the cost and The Aurit Center takes an all-inclusive approach to billing.
It is far less stressful and better for you emotionally.
Litigation is an all-consuming, confrontational process that can cause extreme stress and negatively
affect your health and well-being. Mediation is cooperative. It is based on problem solving. Parties
experience far less stress and report higher levels of well-being in mediation.
The Advantages of Mediation
Responsible
Protect your financial
and emotional well-being.
Respectful
Make it easier on you,
your children and family.
Successful
Avoid court by creating your
own enforceable agreement.
You stay in control and find solutions for your needs.
Mediation is personally tailored for how you want and need to move forward. Courts, however, do
not generally have the time or resources to gain a deeper understanding of your needs. In mediation,
spouses remain in control of the outcome and timeline, rather than attorneys, who may project their
own bias or judges who render final decisions.
Mediation is successful.
The vast majority of cases that enter mediation are successfully settled out of court. No one loses in
mediation. Mediation produces “win-win” agreements where both parties feel satisfied with the
outcome. In litigation, both parties are usually unhappy with the results.
Mediation is confidential and private.
What happens in mediation, stays in mediation. Arizona law protects mediation confidentiality. In
litigation, court matters are on public record.
Mediation preserves respectful interactions between parties.
Litigation causes escalation and ruins relationships. Mediation produces de-escalation and encourages
respectful interaction. It is particularly beneficial for divorcing spouses when children are involved
and family disputes.
“ Traditional litigation is a mistake that must be corrected. For some disputes, trials will
be the only means, but . . . [o]ur system is too costly, too painful, too destructive, too
inefficient for really civilized people.”
Chief Justice Warren Burger
(Ret.) U.S. Supreme Court

Divorce Mediation
Choose a Healthier Divorce.
You have a choice to save yourself and your loved ones from the destruction of litigation.
Choose Divorce Mediation instead.
Stay out of court
Resolve every issue a judge
would decide including
property division, support,
and child custody.
Keep your sanity
Reduce your stress,
focus on your well-being,
and say “no”to an ugly
divorce battle.
Get the best outcome
Decide your own
divorce terms and
be more satisfied with
the outcome.
Litigation ruins families.
When you litigate your divorce, your spouse becomes your enemy. Massive legal bills, even for a simple
case, are financially devastating. You can’t imagine the harm that the battle can inflict on your children.
In most cases, both sides feel that the judgment is unfair and that they have lost. Often, when it’s all
over, both spouses realize that whatever money or property they were fighting over is gone in order to
pay off legal fees. Battle scars for everyone involved can last a lifetime.
Divorce Mediation is a much better way.
In Divorce Mediation at The Aurit Center, you and your spouse work with a mediator to settle your
divorce out of court. Your mediator will help you negotiate a divorce agreement that covers all the
issues that your attorneys would battle-out in traditional divorce litigation. However, mediation allows
you to stay in control of the outcomes and settle the issues amicably. You agree on all issues, so there
are no losers.

Your mediator will explain the mediation process. You and your spouse can ask questions of
the mediator. Decide whether mediation is right for you.
We can file for you
If you choose to move forward, we can draft and file your Petition for Divorce when you are
ready. If you’ve already filed, that’s fine too.
We mediate your divorce
We begin mediation by meeting together to discuss an overview of the issues specific to
your circumstances: asset, property and debt division, spousal support, child support, and
how parenting time will be shared. In that first session, we’ll start reaching some agreements.
After each two-hour session, you’ll receive a summary of agreements reached and topics for
next time.
We draft your Consent Decree for review
After all agreements are reached, we draft your “Consent Decree.” We recommend that
you consult with your own legal advisor before signing. Revisions may be made. Your final
Consent Decree will become your final judgment. You have determined the terms of your
divorce, not a Judge.
You sign — the best outcome for you
You each sign your Consent Decree. We can file it with the court for you or someone you
choose may file. Depending on certain factors, your divorce will be final soon afterward. Take
pride and comfort knowing you stayed in control of your divorce, saved an incredible amount
money and time, and avoided an unnecessary battle by choosing mediation.

Family Mediation
Will and Trust Disputes. Elder Issues. Family Conflict.
Family Mediation gets to the heart of issues that cause conflict in relationships. Reach
realistic agreements for the benefit of the relationship in mediation.
Communicate better
Conflicts escalate due to
communication breakdowns
and misunderstandings.
Mediation brings clarity that
paves the way for resolution.
Solve problems
Improved communication
allows individuals to agree
on creative solutions that are
acceptable to everyone.
Find common ground
Truth be told, people often
agree on more than they think.
Discovering common interests
leads to finding common ground.
Litigation destroys relationships.
Avoiding problems all together can cause increased tension and escalation that result in irreparable
damage. Family disputes are emotional and require a forum where respectful resolution can be found
and relationships may be preserved.
Family Mediation can help your family find solutions and move forward.
The Aurit Center understands the challenges and difficult issues that affect families. We mediate will
and trust disputes and help you avoid or bring an end to costly probate litigation. We also mediate
elder issues, guardianship and conservatorship issues, estate planning disagreements and family
business disputes. You can reach agreements in mediation that meet everyone’s needs and save your
family from being entrenched in a bitter battle.

Family Mediation
“ Mediation is an alternative approach for resolving custody disputes in a way that is
most congruent with our current knowledge of the needs and development of children
of divorce. Parents are supported in maintaining a cooperative co-parenting relationship
that is necessary for children to emotionally survive their parents’ divorce in the long run.”
Donald Saposnek, Ph.D.
Renowned Clinical-Child Psychologist
You get in touch
Contact us and we will answer any preliminary questions you have about mediation and our
process. We can help you to know whether mediation is right for your issues or case.
Both parties agree to mediate
You may contact the other party or parties involved to ask if they will agree to try mediation.
When this is not possible, The Aurit Center can attempt to convene the other party directly.
We mediate
Our mediation process is based on the specific needs of the parties. Your issues may be legal,
non-legal or a mixture of both. We may meet in one long day session, half-day sessions,
or a series of short sessions. The duration of the entire process depends on many factors
including the complexity of the issues and the willingness of all involved to reach a mutually
acceptable agreement.
You reach a final agreement
When all agreements have been reached they are reduced to writing. Your mediator can
write a final non-legally binding memorandum of agreements or a legally binding agreement,
depending on the wants and needs of the parties. Take comfort in knowing that you avoided
a costly and destructive battle by choosing mediation.
