...The Umbrella...
Hawaii’s Future Successors
HFS has been supporting Junior Achievement, a high school after
school program aimed at teaching local students business through
hands on doing, for a number of years. This year nine staff members
of HFS have dedicated the last fifteen weeks to volunteer their time to sponsor
and mentor a Junior Achievement Team made up of 23 high school students
from Waiakea, Hilo, Kea’au, Pahoa and Kamehameha. The team mentored
by HFS was named Hawaii’s Future Successors. Throughout this program
these students were required to develop a management team, select a
company name, design, produce, and market products, account for expenses
and revenues, manage human resources, create business plans, and learn
other practical business skills. A few of the products sold by Hawaii’s Future
Successors were Holiday Hot Cocoa Mugs, cookbook calendars, and a variety
of the World’s Finest Chocolates candy bars. We would like to congratulate the
students and staff for their dedication to our community and look forward to
seeing Hawaii’s Future Successors in our local business community.
HFS
Mobile Banking, As Easy as 1, 2, 3!
...With our new Online banking site HFS is now able to offer our members Mobile Banking...
What is HFS Mobile Banking
It’s a service that lets you do your day-to-day banking on your cell phone or PDA. It’s fast,
easy, convenient and accessible anywhere in the U.S.
Is HFS Mobile Banking Safe
Yes! HFS Mobile Banking is a secure way of completing your financial transactions from
your handheld device. Your information is protected by 128-bit encryption, just as it is
when you bank online.
mobile banking simply enter the following link into your cell phone browser
Step 3:
Upon input you will need to verify your security image and phrase, as well as
enter your password.
Account Summary, Transfer Funds, Quick Pay, Change Email Address, or Change
Password.
HFS Mobile Banking, just one more service for our valued member owners.
Overdrafts and Your Account!
What is an Overdraft
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough available funds in your checking account to cover a transaction, yet
HFS covers the amount anyway. Transactions include a check, draft, or electronic/Debitcard item posted to your account.
HFS may cover your overdraft in one of two ways listed below.
1. Using standard overdraft practices that come with your account
2. Using an overdraft protection plan set up by the member where their share draft account is linked to a savings
account or line of credit.
What are HFS FCU’s standard overdraft practices
• When an account is deemed as having insufficient funds, HFS will charge a Non Sufficient Funds (NSF) fee of
$20.00 for each transaction returned, or an overdraft fee of $20.00 for each NSF transaction paid by HFS.
• HFS will use its discretion to pay an overdraft. We do not agree to pay overdrafts in the future and may
discontinue covering overdrafts at any time without notice.
• Please remember your transactions may not be processed in the order they are made or the order received. This
will impact the way overdrafts are calculated so please manage your account carefully.
What is the benefit of having an overdraft protection plan
• An overdraft protection plan has many benefits. First it allows a member to have their
transactions paid by using one of their share accounts or line of credit, vs. being charged a fee for having nonsufficient
funds. This may also eliminate the fees you may incur from different vendors/payees. Using this
method will not only save you money, but will eliminate many potential headaches.
Kea’au Christmas Parade
This year many
of the HFS staff
worked diligently on a
beautifully crafted float for the
6th annual Kea’au Christmas
parade. This year’s theme
was “A Story Book Christmas”
and the parade featured many
elaborately decorated trucks
strung with Christmas lights.
The work of HFS staff paid off
with the crafty design of “The
Grinch Who Stole Christmas”
winning HFS first place in the
parade. The “whoville” houses and large
sleigh adorned with lights looked majestic as
the 40’ rig slowly drove through the crowded
streets. We would like to thank all staff and
volunteers for their hard work and look forward
to coming together next year to defend our title.
Gingerbread Festival
HFS proudly entered seven teams
this year in the 8th annual Easter
Seals Gingerbread Family Festival held
at the Sangha Hall. This event is held
as a fundraising event for the Easter
Seals Program, which provides services
to infants, children and adults with
disabilities and special needs. Participants
are provided with Gingerbread house
kits and with laughter and teamwork
are tested on their creative and building
skills. The theme this year was “Songs of
Christmas” and HFS proudly represented
our name, taking home three of the five
awards. We are proud to support our
community and we congratulate and
thank all staff who volunteered their time
to support this great cause.
