Day 1: Arrive Beijing Upon arrival you are transferred to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to relax or begin your explorations on your own. The Novotel Peace Hotel – 2 nights Day 2: Beijing Enjoy the day at leisure in China’s capital. If you like, embark on an optional full-day tour of Beijing that includes many of the fascinating city’s historical and cultural highlights. (B) Day 3: To Pyongyang Depart this morning as you transfer to the airport and fly to Pyongyang with Air Koryo. On arrival, transfer to the Koryo Hotel for 4 nights. Gather for a welcome dinner this evening at the Koryo Hotel Revolving Restaurant. The Koryo Hotel (or similar) – 4 nights (B, D) Day 4: Pyongyang Embark on a full-day tour of North Korea’s capital city. Begin at the captured U.S. naval vessel the USS Pueblo, which remains moored in the Taedong River. Continue to the Children’s Palace where North Korean youth receive education and training in various disciplines, including ballet, calligraphy and gymnastics. (B, L, D) Day 5: Pyongyang In the morning, visit the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun (the mausoleum of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il), the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery and the Foreign Language Bookshop. Drive to Mount Ryonggak for a picnic lunch and a short walking tour that leads to a stunning view of Pyongyang. In the afternoon, return to the city and explore the Pyongyang Folk Village and Golden Lane Bowling Center. (B, L, D ) Day 6: Pyongyang Experience the pageantry of Victory Day, a national holiday commemorating the end of the Korean War of 1950–53. Visit the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Memorial and continue to the Fountain Park and Mansudae Grand Monument, which is an enormous statue of Kim Il Sung. Later, take a ride on the Moscow-inspired Pyongyang metro. Then visit Kim Il Sung Square; the Arch of Triumph, built to commemorate the Korean resistance against Japan from 1925 to 1945; and impressive Juche Tower. End the day with a walk along the Taedong riverside.
