16. All vehicles are subject to search while on the school campus.<br />

POSSESSION/USE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS<br />

Smoking or possession of tobacco products is prohibited on school property during the school day,<br />

by students actively participating in or practicing for school-sponsored extracurricular events and<br />

while riding school buses or activity vehicles. Consequences for violation of smoking or<br />

possession of tobacco products rules are stated below. Although this policy permits some choices,<br />

the options for each offense selected by the student and parent must be approved by the<br />

appropriate administrator. Additionally, one cessation class must be taken for either the first or<br />

second offense. If a cessation class has not been taken as a response to the first or second offense,<br />

the student will receive three days of OSS (same as third offense).<br />

1st Offense<br />

Scheduled parent conferences, plus one of the following:<br />

1. Successful completion of a smoking cessation class held three days after school (total of six<br />

hours minimum).<br />

2. One day of ISS (In-<strong>School</strong> Suspension).<br />

3. <strong>School</strong> Service Project - The schedule must be approved by the appropriate administrator.<br />

The project must be a minimum of eight hours outside the regular hours of the school day.<br />

Failure to comply will result in three days of ISS.<br />

2nd Offense<br />

Scheduled parent conference, plus one of the following:<br />

1. Two days ISS.<br />

2. Joint participation in community based smoking cessation class by student and parent.<br />

Classes will be held once a week after school hours for four to six weeks. Failure to comply<br />

will result in the student being assigned two days of ISS.<br />

3rd Offense<br />

Scheduled parent conference<br />

1. Two days OSS (Out-of-<strong>School</strong> Suspension).<br />

4th Offense<br />

1. Scheduled parent conference<br />

2. Expulsion recommendation.<br />

By administrative rule, tobacco or smoking paraphernalia obviously displayed will be confiscated<br />

and not returned.<br />

ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUGS<br />

The possession, use, being under the influence of, or distribution of alcohol, drugs, or other<br />

controlled substances on school campuses will result in OSS, referral and recommend participation<br />

in the Keystone’s Substance Abuse program, referral to law enforcement and possible expulsion. A<br />
