DUAL SPORT PARTICIPATION
While not encouraged at East Jackson, dual sport participation in the same season is
permitted under the following conditions:
The athlete and his/her family are in favor of competing for two sports teams.
The coaches of the affected sports are in agreement that this is a desirable situation.
The coaches of the affected sports, the athlete, and the athletic director will meet to
determine if a schedule for practices and competitions can be mutually agreed upon.
The athlete is expected to practice regularly in both sports.
The athlete will not be permitted to leave practice early in order to attend a practice in the
other sport without permission of both coaches.
The athlete will not be permitted to miss any practices or contests in either sport without
the consent of both of the coaches.
The athlete will be required to determine his/her ―Primary‖ and ―Secondary‖ sports. This
determination will be used only to resolve scheduling conflicts that arise after the start of
the season. If the letter requirements of both sports are met, then the athlete will be
eligible to receive letters and awards in both sports. All final authority regarding conflicts
and clarification of this policy shall be vested in the Athletic Director.
STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
Every athlete, parent, and coach should understand that strength and conditioning
work is a primary tool for achieving success in all athletic programs. All athletes should
participate in a workout program both in and out of the season of their sport. Workout
programs are designed by the East Jackson strength and conditioning coordinator and
should be executed under the direct supervision of the staff of East Jackson high school.
All strength and conditioning activities are closely supervised and monitored by a staff
member of EJCHS.
AWARDS
Every participating athlete will receive a certificate of participation or letter award at the
completion of the season. The coach will establish his/her own criteria for an award in
the sport. These criteria must be on file in the Athletic Director’s office. In all cases, an
athlete must be in good standing in both academics and conduct at the end of the season
to qualify for an award.
LETTER, PARTICIPATION, AND ACADEMIC AWARDS: Certificates will be
awarded for varsity letter winners and participation award winners. Academic award
winners will be presented with a plaque. These awards will be given at a banquet at the
end of the season.
ATHLETIC LETTER JACKETS: East Jackson athletic letter jackets may be purchased
after an athlete earns his/her first varsity letter. Any athlete wearing an East Jackson
letter jacket has met the requirements of the coaching staff of the varsity sport and the
athletic department.
PATCHES: Any athlete who participates on a GHSA state or region championship team
or who wins an individual GHSA state or region championship will receive a patch from
the athletic department and be recognized at a Jackson County Board of Education
meeting.
