From the Principal’s Desk:
As we embark upon a new month, I’m excited we are one step closer
to displaying academic excellence through our success on the
Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT). Students, teachers,
and parents will be reminded of this important endeavor as they
view the countdown signage located in the cafeteria. Let’s continue
to work together as we prepare our students for the CRCT.
In lieu of the tragic incident that occurred at the high school in Ohio,
Jean Childs Young Middle School will ramp-up safety and security
around and around campus. Students will be required to enter the
building through metal detectors and will be randomly searched.
Additionally, we have a growing number of students who are reporting
to school before 8:15 am and are not registered for the early
morning program. Moving forward, students who report to school
before 8:15 am and are not in a supervised program or with a sponsor
(i.e. band and/or orchestra) will be reported to the school’s social
worker for investigation. Likewise, students who remain afterschool
after 4:15 pm and are not in a supervised program or with a
sponsor (i.e. tutorial, after-school all-stars, sports, band, orchestra,
etc.) will be reported to the social worker for investigation as well.
Shout Out to the YMS Counseling Department
for the Fantastic School-wide
Entering the College Zone Expo!
It was a huge Success!
We want to give a huge round of applause to our
partners at Parsons Brinckerhoff, Young Middle
Scholars, and the Young Middle Design Team for
the terrific Future City Seekers Project !
Congratulations to Dr. Sandra Canterbury and
Mr. Donald Johnson for being selected as
Resident Advisors for the 2012-2013 Atlanta
Urban Teacher Residency (AUTR) program. Our
teachers were chosen from a large pool of
candidates and had to undergo a rigorous
interviewing process before being selected as
Resident Advisors. Dr. Canterbury and
Mr. Johnson will play an integral part in training
future teachers in becoming highly effective
teachers for the Atlanta Public Schools.
No Parking Zones:
PLEASE be mindful of the no parking
zones and areas where cars are
prohibited as school safety is of utmost
importance for our students, staff, and school
visitors.
