Harvest<strong>in</strong>g protocols have been prepared and are be<strong>in</strong>g suggested as an answer to these<br />
c<strong>on</strong>cerns. But <strong>in</strong> the absence of c<strong>on</strong>certed efforts and coord<strong>in</strong>ated campaign to educate<br />
the primary collectors, these protocols have limited ground level impacts.<br />
With no plan and significant <strong>in</strong>vestments for <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Mahua</strong> tree populati<strong>on</strong>,<br />
<strong>Mahua</strong> may not rema<strong>in</strong> a lucrative livelihood opti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> the l<strong>on</strong>g run.<br />
3.4 F<strong>in</strong>ancial Overlays<br />
<strong>Mahua</strong> flower is c<strong>on</strong>verted <strong>in</strong>to an alcoholic brew which is generally prepared and<br />
c<strong>on</strong>sumed by the tribal households. Both the process of collecti<strong>on</strong> of <strong>Mahua</strong> flower and<br />
its c<strong>on</strong>versi<strong>on</strong> to brew are d<strong>on</strong>e by the same group of tribal households. But <strong>Mahua</strong><br />
flowers are available for a six week period with the c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> of the end product<br />
spread through the year. Hence it has to be kept stored and released to the market<br />
accord<strong>in</strong>g to the requirements. The sub sector players and their roles were given <strong>in</strong> Table<br />
