General Electric to deliver a training seminar and workshop for Food
Processors on the basics of energy data and monitoring energy use for
energy savings in food processing.
The seminar will equip participants to better:
• Understand their business electricity use
• Learn to convert interval data into load shape
• Learn to use load shape collected daily, weekly or monthly to identify energy
opportunities

This seminar is for management and staff of food processing customers of PGE and
members of NWFPA, who want to improve their basic knowledge of electricity and
how to manage it in their business operations. The seminar incorporates hands-­‐on
activities, problem-­‐solving exercises, videos and slides.

Instructors
John McLain, a PGE customer technical service Project Manager, has 40 years of
wide-­‐range utility experience from distribution field operations to energy-­‐efficiency
programs. He completed his MBA in organizational effectiveness and is an adjunct
faculty member at Clackamas Community College teaching energy resource
management.
Rick Durst, Energy Information Services Program Manager, Portland General
Electric, EPA. Rick Durst has 20 years in the electric utility industry plus 10 years as an
electrician in the U.S. Nuclear Submarine Service. He has led PGE’s Energy
Information Services program for the last 7 years and also manages PGE’s Demand
BuyBack, Plug in Vehicle and Web-­‐based Power Quality Monitoring programs. Rick
also serves as a board member for the Oregon Association or Professional Energy
Managers.
Greg Nelson, Commercial/Industrial Energy Specialist, Portland General Electric,
PE. Greg is a mechanical engineer with more than twelve years experience in
commercial and industrial systems design and operation. Greg specializes in
identifying energy efficiency improvement opportunities with businesses, schools,
governments, and other non-­‐profit organizations.
